about those pipe bombs that were planted near the capitol last week. overnight new evidence revealed in the fast-moving investigation into the chaos on capitol hill. new pictures from the fbi show the man suspected of planting two pipe bombs at the republican and democratic national committee headquarters, and this morning, a stunning revelation from congressman tim ryan who confirms two capitol police officers have been suspended for their actions during last week's riot. one officer is accused of taking selfies with the rioters. the other allegedly directed people who breached the capitol. >> one was the selfie officer and another was an officer who had put a maga hat on and started directing some people around. >> reporter: ryan says as many as 15 other capitol police officers are now under investigation. congressman jim clyburn suggesteded the mob may have had inside information

when they stormed the capitol because they were able to find him inside an unmarked office. >> that office is where i do most of my work, and for some reason these people showed up at that office, but the office where my name is above the door or on the door and my position above the door was not disturbed. >> reporter: this morning an army official is denying reports that he and others at the pentagon rejected requests to activate the national guard. capitol police chief steven sund who has resigned told "the washington post" his requests were delayed or ignored claiming lieutenant general walt pyatt said, i don't like the visual of the national guard standing a police line with the capitol in the background but this morning pyatt says he did not make the statement or any comments similar to what was attributed to me by chief sund. in the meantime, a new threat is emerging. wisconsin state capitol boarded up as a new fbi bulletin warns armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols. >> my own kids have expressed

over in his place. alex, mona, back to you. >> okay, andrew, thank you. >> now to the growing push to remove president trump from office. house speaker nancy pelosi is giving vice president mike pence a 24-hour deadline or she says the house will impeach. for the first time since the capitol riot president trump and vice president pence meeting face-to-face. a senior administration official says the two, quote, had a good conversation last night reflecting on the last four years of the administration's work and accomplishments. last week trump supporters chanted, hang mike pence, as they stormed the capitol. at the time of the siege trump tweeted that pence, quote, didn't have the courage after the vice president refused to illegally intervene in the certification of joe biden's election win. now, unless pence invokes the 25th amendment by tomorrow, democrats say they will move forward with impeaching trump. their single article of impeachment charges the president with incitement of insurrection for inciting

violence against the government by urging his followers to march on the capitol. this morning, democrats have the votes to impeach trump for a historic second time. >> we don't actually need a lot of evidence here, it's all out in the open. there's no dispute donald trump gave a speech. no dispute that there was an attack on the capitol. no dispute that multiple people died. >> reporter: but the top republican in the house kevin mccarthy says, quote, an impeachment at this time would the opposite effect of bringing our country together and pushing instead for a censure of the president. house speaker nancy pelosi rejected the idea saying it would be an abdication of our responsibility. more republicans are distancing themselves from the president including a michigan congressman who says he's strongly considering a vote to impeach. >> i prefer that we have a more fulsome investigation into what happened. most of what i know about january 6th came either from personal experience or from twitter. but at the end of the day i think it is obvious that the president is no longer qualified to hold that office.

>> reporter: and rising republican star madison cawthorn who voteded to overturn the election results last week and spoke before the riot acknowledges it was a mistake for trump to urge the crowd to march to the capitol. >> he never should have directed that crowds towards the capitol building because just there was a bad outcome that was desitined at that point. >> reporter: the question becomes when will the senate begin a trial? the chamber in recess until the day before joe biden's inauguration. incoming majority leader chuck schumer is exploring using an obscure rule which allows him to call an emergency session for a trial, but president-elect biden suggested monday senators can conduct an impeachment trial after his inauguration by splitting their time. >> a half day on dealing with the impeachment and half day getting my people nominated and confirmed in the senate as well as moving on. so that's my hope next week.

>> as for president trump who's been holed up in the white house he's expected to make a public appearance today when he travels to alamo, texas, to view the border wall. cumulus media which is home to several conservative talk radio hosts is cracking down on shows that push election fraud conspiracy is. the company memo tells them, we need to induce national calm and warns them to stop suggesting the election isn't over. anyone breaking the new rule can be fired. parler is now suing amazon. the company claims being kicked off of amazon's web hosting service violates antitrust laws. now to the pandemic. one covid-related death is being reporteded every 30 seconds in this country. hospitalizations in california continue to skyrocket and nationwide more than 80 million people live in areas where hospitals are running short of icu beds. mass vaccination sites are opening at stadiums and clinics, even disneyland but some are plagued by red tape. complicated websites or staffing shortages.

methodically. she's giving pence a chance to act. she knows he won't. she couldn't even get him on the phone as she was on hold for 25 minutes so then impeachment is in their front pocket and comes up with that next and move along there and then the problem is going to be in the senate, though. >> before we move on to the senate, i want to back up to vice president mike pence. we still don't know where he stands on this 25th amendment, correct? >> oh, no, he doesn't -- apparently spoke with trump for the first time since the vote the other night, and, but, you know, he has no options here. he doesn't have a lot -- he doesn't have the votes in the cabinet to move forward with the 25th amendment. so, you know, really even if he wanted to do something, he doesn't have the votes there either. >> okay, well, let's talk about the impeachment route. what do you make of senator schumer's new plan? he wants to try to move up the time period for considering impeachment before trump's term ends, which would be next week. do you think there's any way that could happen? >> i don't see it.

as long as mitch mcconnell has a say in it and as long as mitch mcconnell still has the republican advantage, i doesn't see that going anywhere and even if -- when democrats do control the chamber, who are the 17 republicans who are going to vote with them on impeachment? how many republicans do they -- they had one last time. they might get a handful more but not -- probably not more. >> joe, lastly we're hearing from more corporations, comcast, facebook, at&t pledging to stop donating money to politicians who supported last week's challenge to joe biden's election win which started that riot at the capitol. how much do you think this is a turn in how we're seeing private sector corporations behave or is this just convenient pr for them? >> see what happens down the road because the key word that many of these corporations are using is suspend, not end, suspend. suspend means we're going to do this now and get pr bonus points and then we can turn the faucet back on in a couple week.

finally the alabama crimson tide are college football newest champions. >> the tide rolled dominating ohio state. will ganss was watching. >> reporter: monday night college football national championship might not have had much going on in the stands. but alabama and ohio state bringing more than enough action to the field. all eyes on alabama's devonta smith setting records and did it all before halftime. the senior's 12 receptions translating to three touchdowns and 215 yard so low in the half compared to all of ohio state's combined 191 yards. even lebron james who was rooting for the buckeyes tweeting, devonta smith is one of the best pure receivers i've ever watched. man, he's good. his teammate najee harris bruising the buckeyes setting the s.e.c. record for single season touchdowns but the game was plagued by injuries.
