the vaccine that he is ready to see california move to the next phase of distribution. but here in the bay area some health officials say they are not ready with san mateo and contra costa and santa clara county announcing they won't be vaccinating people who are under the age of 75 yet. they just don't have enough doses. >> we are not reed to go to 65 and older yet. as i described we're trying to fill up a lake with a garden hose right now. >> it is not as easy as getting a flu shot. and i would love it to be that way. but i think we will get there. in the next, you know -- we're slowly inching towards that goal. >> reporter: officials say distributing the vaccine is a complex process. it takes two shots. it has storage temperature requirements. they are also dealing with trying to reach people who can't get to the vaccine sites and people who don't have health insurance. officials say you should stay vigilant though, if you are in that tier and can get the

millions drawing. that is $750 million. let's take a look at neighborhood temperatures at 5:07 this morning. east bay, 49 in hayward, union city and fremont. everybody else low- to mid-50s. partly cloudy. the fog dipping down into concord. thick across the north bay and some slipping farther north into the south bay from san martin. temperatures in the mid-40s to mid-50s. very mild this morning. here is a look at sue trio tower. if you are going to be out and about today, mild and warm if you are exercising. if you are home working or going to school take some breaks outside, enjoy the weather while you can. and much calmer at the beaches. no high surf advisory. the next week in san francisco, average highs 56. anywhere from 60-69 degrees over in oakland the average high is 56. we ping between 64 and 72 degrees. so we're getting close to record highs there.

reports its first covid-related death in almost eight months. new cases are at the highest level there since last july. new developments. uber is appealing a $59 million find by state regulators. the company accused of refusing to give information about sexual assaults connected to its service. uber safety report revealed more than 3,000 reports of sexual assault in 2018. the cpuc says uber is not complying with judges orders to provide details about the reported attacks. the company is calling the fine grossly disproportional to the gravity of the offense. us safety investigators are issueleing serious warning about electric vehicle firs. they say the peto fthrepo push auto makers like tesla do more. >> reporter: you may have seen this video from to 20 in pleasanton. a vehicle on fire and burning several hours.

an ntsb report detailing electric vehicle battery fires from 2017-2018 and a message urging makers to improve emergency response guides for first responders when battling flames like this. >> it is concerning moving forward, but not in a frightening way. >> reporter: lieutenant baxter of the san francisco fire department says the department implemented special training to learn how to fight these lithium ion battery fires in electric cars. they are using thermal imaging cameras and tesla has trained them to deal with these batteries that sometimes reignite. >> they continue to generate heat. >> reporter: in 2018 it took crews six hours to get one of the battery fires out. >> there is certainly concern over the battery fires, but his department and others have adapted. >> some of them will be reactive to water in a negative way.

appointments. but bay area counties say the change might not happen right away. >> we are not ready to go to 65 and older yet. trying to fill up a lake with a garden hose right now. >> this morning abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield. >> reporter: this announcement from the governor that people 65 and up can now get the shot has a lot of people confused. especially people who are older than 75. they still haven't been able to find a shot so many are wondering why the state would open it up to more people when they haven't finished the first tier yet. >> i'm interested in getting the vaccine, for obvious reasons. and just seems that every time i try to get it i'm sent to the side saying we'll get back to you, or can you call next week. that type of thing.

>> reporter: he is 85 years old. health officials say it is very duplicat duplicate complicated to figure who can get it and where they should get it. private or public sector? the county they live or where they work? a lot of details to work out and most bay area counties don't have enough doses yet to open it up to another tier of people so they are going to keep focuses on 75 and older. suter is booking appointments for people 75 and up. the youngsters in late 60s as a to hoin today to start booking that point those 75 and up. but the state certainly wants these distributed as quickly as possible. so stay vigilant. keep fighting. keep looking.

how's it look? >> reporter: well reggie, it is an unexpected sharp increase in jobless games. a look at the numbers right now. 965,000 people applied for unemployment benefits last week. that is an increase of 181,000 from the week before. economists forecasted 800,000 and continuing claims also jumped more than 5.2 million people are still receiving state unemployment benefits up from just over 5 million the week before. initial jobless claims have now stayed under 800,000 for two consecutive weeks. we'll see how wall street reacts in about 45 minutes. thank you jobina. apple is making a hundred million dollar investment in projects that challenge systemic racism and includes a first of its kind education hub for historically black colleges and universities at the atlanta university center. apple will also create a developer academy to support coding and tech education and venture capital funding for
