county leaders sharing their frustrations at the rocky rollout. >> people, the public don't want to hear excuses. they just want to get vaccinated. >> but there is hope as some are able to get that lifesaving shot. >> so we were able to make an appointment and zipped over there this morning. >> and amid the rush, a key piece of advice from health officials. >> the great word that is really challenging for all of sus is patience. >> good evening. >> right now vaccines are being delivered to the state but there's no clear process to know where or-wheel you can get the vaccine. bay area counties tell us they don't have them and don't know when they'll get them. local hospitals like kaiser say they don't know the time line for getting the vaccine and local hospitals tell us they won't be giving the vaccine.

tonight abc 7 news reporter kate larson spoke to frustrated bay area seniors trying to make vaccine appointments. >> but she also found a marin woman who actually got the vaccine this morning in a neighboring county through her health care provider. >> we felt so lucky. last night we received an e-mail from our wonderful doctor. >> reporter: hoping to sign-up for a vaccine appointment and by thursday morning they were getting vaccinated at a clinic in berkeley. >> we made our appointments last night, and we went over this morning about 45 minutes early and there were only three people in line. it was just effortless. >> reporter: the buckley's experience is far from universal. >> your center provider is not able to schedule vaccination or provide vaccination at this time. >> reporter: centers online portal and vaccine phone line was jammed up with traffic as was kaiser's. >> he's been on hold for two hours and still hasn't spoken

with anyone. >> reporter: a resident spent the day trying to help her 90-year-old father try to get an appointment to no avail. >> i really want my parents to get vaccinated. i don't want them to die from covid. >> we have almost no vaccine left at the end of each week. the more we get, the more we'll give. >> reporter: matt willis says marin doesn't have enough supply to start vaccinating age based patients until next week. >> if there's another county where they're able to offer that vaccine and there's no other barriers to it, i can see why people would cross county borders. my hope would be there would be a more uniform approach across the state so there weren't these disparities between counties. >> kate larson, abc 7 news. >> in the east bay cities are

working to make the oakland colosseum a super vaccination site. one local hospital has already requested the space, and others are expected to follow. oakland council member at large rebecca kaplan says it's about getting as many shots in arms as fast as possible. >> right now in california the holdup is actually getting those vaccines outs to people. and so working to open large scale vaccination sites like the oakland colosseum is a crucial part of how we protect peoples lives and protect public health. >> the colosseum authority will discuss the issue when it meet tomorrow morning. tonight there are some signs that california's overwhelming covid surge may be subsiding. the percentage of coronavirus tests that have a positive result dropped from last week and the number of hospitalizations and icu patients are declining slightly, but we are very far from being out of the woods.

tonight there are more than 400 people in the hospital with covid-19. jr stone spoke to a mother and daughter who say they're just trying to stay alive. >> right now 38-year-old jackie who was connected to an oxygen tank is battling covid-19 at kaiser permanente in while she is alone in her room, she's not without family in the building. her mom she lives with has covid-19 and is hospitalized on a different floor of the same hospital. >> i was about to go home last -- i think yesterday but -- >> jackie lin came to the

hospital monday and came into contact with someone who had covid-19 while working at walgreens. doctors have told them both lay an their stomachs and they've been doing just and that positivity here at kaiser permanente has rubbed off. >> we can do >> j.r. stone, abc 7 news. to the south bay now where seven hospital morgues in santa clara county are either full or close to capacity. that's obviously a troubling sign as the pandemic rages on. three refrigerator trailers have now been brought in to handle the overflow. each can store up to 60 bodies.

in the south bay tonight a protest rally brought parents, teachers and community activists together. they're urging san jose unified school board members to make all of its campuses police-free by re-imagining school safety. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard is in san jose. >> reporter: a small but vocal group protesting outside san jose unified school district headquarters demanding campuses be police-free zones. >> cops having a presence on campus is dangerous for students. >> reporter: this coalition wants the district to end its contract with san jose police and replace it with a plan which reimagines school safety. a resolution named after derek sanderland injured by police during last summer's black lives matter protest. >> the reason why they put my name on the resolution was

simply because they found my call to take police out of schools and implement restorative justice changes resonated with them. >> reporter: parents in santa clara county deputy public defender says for too car caravan protest circled the area getting the attention of the board president. the board voted to remove police from campus this year when students are doing remote learning. but abolishing school resource officers for goodwill need more input and discussion. >> i do understand that some of the people i represent think police officer equals safety. >> reporter: several bay area school zriks like san francisco and fremont have voted to reduce or eliminate police officers on campus. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> today a majority of
