were taken and the covid-19 vaccine was getting into the arms of hundreds who so desperately want it. >> we feel good that we're able to make a little bit of a dent in this problem. >> reporter: the playground at stanley elementary school in lafayette transformed into this drive-through covid vaccination clinic for seniors. >> it is the best deal. >> reporter: many have been frustrated trying to get the vaccine, like wayne hahn. >> i feel relieved. i live in rossmor and they were unable to get the county to come to that community which has 10,000 elderly people looking me. >> it is incredibly frustrating and patients are really afraid. >> reporter: walnut creek physician rebeka parish partnered with the city of lafayette and local senior organizations to get the vaccine into the arms of those who may be home bound or tech challenged. >> you know, i was really impressed how well organized this is. >> you better believe these vaccine doses are like gold, and finding 500

clinic wasn't easy. >> i'm pretty sure somewhere in there i promised somebody my first born child. >> reporter: parish says she lobbied contra costa county for 500 doses of the vaccine and finally got them. >> we're going to be vaccinating over 240 people today here. >> reporter: those living in fremont gave shots to assisted living residents and staff, a partnership with cps. but multiple states now have more appointments than doses. president-elect joe biden says speeding up vaccinations is top priority when he takes office next week, aiming for 100 million shots in his first 100 days in office. >> because the health of the nation is literally at stake. >> i'm so emotional. oh. it is just so amazing. >> reporter: back that lafayette, lisa applegate was overcome the moment she got the shot. >> i didn't realize how much hope i would feel. >> reporter: more free vaccine events are planned in the future. cornell barnard, "abc 7 news".

san francisco started vaccinating people 65 and older as part of its new massive vaccinating distribution plan. mayor london breed tweeted photos today, one of the first department of health community clinic. san francisco's goal is to vaccinate 10,000 people a day through clinics like that one and three high-volume sites including the moscone center, city college and the sf market in bay view. >> the state of california and a lot of cities across the state have to move faster to make sure we get more folks vaccinated, and that's what we're attempting to do. >> the city college site will open next week with the other two following soon. on tuesday, san francisco will launch a website for people to find out when it will be their turn to get the shot. to the peninsula now. san mateo county says it is n r 65 and older to get the vaccine. this despite the governor announcing on wednesday the residents of california who are at least 65 are eligible to get

a shot. san mateo county posted on its website that it is still in phase 1a of itsibutioan only in care workers and residents of long-term care facilities. well, we are posting updates on california's vaccine rollout at our website, abc7news.com. so far nearly 33% of doses received have been administered. you can also compare our state's progress to the rest of the country and see where you fall in line to get vaccinated. to the latest state figures now in the pandemic. california health officials report more than 40,000 new cases. that brings the state's total to more than 2.9 million cases. 669 people in california died in one day from the virus. that is the second highest total since the pandemic began. los angeles county announced today it has reached more than 1 million cases, the highest in any county in the nation. l.a. county continues its trend of at least 100,000 new cases a week.

even still, some cautious optimism with the governor saying hospitalizations and positivity rates are still high, the percentage of people tested who have the virus declined over the past seven days. people of all ages living in san francisco's tenderloin district got free covid-19 testing today. a temporary site was put up on turk street between jones and eleven worth. the tenderloin is one of the hardest-hit areas of the city, reporting the fourth highest case load since the pandemic began. the latest numbers come in at 1,600 cases and 13 deaths. and "abc 7 news" sent a push alert this morning that california reported more than 600 deaths and 40,000 new coronavirus cases in one day. you can get pandemic updates sent directly to your mobile device through the free "abc 7 news" app. now to developing news. from a distance you can't see anything unusual but the area around the u.s. capitol has been transformed into a fortress of

in the east bay a disturbing message found and removed. a "white lives matter" banner was discovered this morning in union city on the corner of smith and dire street. city leaders and the human relations commission have condemned the act. they say the act of vandalism is especially jarring on the weekend of the martin luther king jr. holiday, and less than a week since the attack on the capitol. a police report has been filed and officers will remain on alert for any hate-fuelled crimes or acts. materials to make explosives

have been found inside a man's mobile home in san francisco leading to his arrest. "abc 7 news" went by the scene on gillman avenue near donahue street earlier today and it was still blocked off. people were evacuated from the area as a precaution. police siidentified the suspects kyle fulsom and he was taken into custody last night and faces multiple charges. to the north bay where a man is held on $5 million after deputies say they found explosive devices at his business. ian rogers of american canyon was taken into custody yesterday. "the napa valley register" reports that the squad was called to napa yesterday. they say they found suspicious devices and were able to disarm them. the family of oscar grant held a virtual town hall today. they are calling on prominent black leaders and activists to challenge a decision not to charge a second b.a.r.t police officer in connection to grant's death. a 2019 independent report found officer tony peroni, circled

along the coastline until 7:00 p.m., so just a few more minutes out there, about 90 minutes or so, but we still he the northwesterly swell creating a risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. so overnight tonight we'll keep some of that coastal fog, but away from the coast it is a mainly clear night, and numbers falling into the mid and upper 40s over the next 12 hours. tomorrow it is a warm, sunny day. almost 10 to 20 degrees above where we should be this time of the year. widespread 70s across the bay tomorrow. it is a warm day. 70 in oakland. 73, the high in san jose. up to 76 in santa rosa. we will be in the upper 60s in san francisco. a high of 68 degrees. 79 in fairfield. a high of 72 in palo alto. but tomorrow night on the heels of that warm weather, winds will begin to ramp up. so it is for that fact we have a wind advisory going into effect for the entire bay area starting at 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night,

and a high wind watch in effect for solano county. this is a pretty long duration wind event. we are talking a couple of days, lasting through tuesday evening. so we will feel these north winds develop, anywhere from 15 to 30 miles per hour, but on our ridge tops we could see gusts over 50 miles per hour. so future tracker wind gust, tomorrow evening it is pretty calm, but early monday morning those winds begin to ramp up and really in the north bay first thing. monday is a pretty breezy day, but we're watching again monday night into tuesday morning for another round of those offshore winds to develop. it will increase our fire danger. not as high as it would have been, say, in september or october since we have seen some rainfall, but we have these winds and these warm temperatures, it is something we will keep our eye on over the next several days. the accuweather seven-day forecast, warm sunshine tomorrow. those warm winds monday and tuesd tuesday. we'll cool off, and it looks like the next chance of rainfall
