moment she got the shot. >> i didn't realize how much hope i would feel. >> reporter: more free-vaccine events are planned in the future. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. >> san francisco has started vaccinating people 65 and older as part of its new massive-vaccine distribution plan. mayor london breed tweeted photos today. one of the first doses being administered, at a department of health community clinic. san francisco's goal is to vaccinate 10,000 people a day, through clinics like that one and three high-volume sites, including city college and sf market in the bay view. >> state of california and even a lot of cities, across the state, have -- have to move faster to -- to make sure we get more folks vaccinated. and that's what we are attempting to do. >> the city college site will open next week, with the other two following, soon. on tuesday, san francisco will launch a website for people to find out when it'll be their turn to get the shot. on the peninsula, san mateo

county says it's still not ready to allow people 65 and older to get the vaccine. all of this, despite the governor announcing on wednesday the residents of california who are at least 65 are, indeed, eligible to get a shot. san mateo county posted on its website that it's still in phase 1 a of the distribution plan and that only includes health-care workers and residents of long-term care facilities. we are posting updates on california's vaccine rollout at our website abc7news.com. so far, nearly 33% of doses received have been administered. you can also compare our state's progress, to the rest of the country. and see where you fall in line to get vaccinated. to the latest, now. state figures in the pandemic. california health officials report more than 40,000 new cases. bringing the state's total to more than 2.9 million cases. 669 people in california died, in one day from the virus. that is the second-highest total since the pandemic began.

and los angeles county announced, today, it has reached more than 1 million cases. the highest in any county, in the country. l.a. county continues its trend of at least 100,000 new cases, per week. even so, some cautious optimism to report. the governor saying hospitalizations and positivity rates are still high, but the percentage of people tested who have the virus declined over the past seven days. people of all ages living in san francisco's tenderloin district got free covid-19 testing today. a temporary site was put up between jones and levinworth. it's one of the hardest-hit areas of the city, reporting the fourth-highest caseload since the pandemic started. the latest numbers come in at 1,600 cases and abc 7 news sent a push alert this morning that california reported more than 600 deaths and 40,000 new coronavirus cases in one day. you, too, can get pandemic

updates through the free abc 7 news app. now, to developing news. from a distance, you can't really see anything unusual. but the area around the u.s. capitol has been transformed into a fortress of fences and barbed wire. abc news reporter, rena roy has an update on security measures and the threat of violence during the inauguration. >> reporter: juit's all hands o deck to keep americans safe. and up to 25,000 national guard members are expected knot in the nation's capitol by wednesday. warning the danger is, quote, substantial. >> i don't know if anyone has raised their hand to say, we are coming. we will be there. but we are preparing, as if they are. >> reporter: the fbi, concerned about possible, improvised-explosive devices and the ongoing threat to political leaders. investigators saying the capitol hill siege, likely, emboldened

custody. his attorney telling abc he felt like he was answering the call of president trump. >> he was there at the invitation of and request of our president. >> reporter: allegedly, leaving a note for vice president mike pence, saying it's only a matter of time. justice is coming. rena roy, abc news, new york. meantime, the state capitol is also seeing changes as chp prepars for the possibility of armed protests. right now, there are no-permitted events at the capital in sacramento, through wednesday. lawmakers and staffers have been directed, through e-mail, not to go to the building for their safety. massive barricades have been set up and the fbi has established a command post, in preparation. they are working with washington, d.c. headquarters to identify anyone who took part in the siege on te nation's capitol. an east bay city is denouncing a divisive message of the it's this. a banner reading, white lives matter. how police are responding, tonight.

in the east bay, a disturbing message found and removed. a white lives matter banner was discovered this morning, in union city, on the corner of smith and dyer street. city leaders are condemning the act. they say the act of vandalism is especially jarring on the weekend of the martin luther king jr. holiday, and less than a week since the attack on the capitol. a police report has been filed, and officers will remain on high alert for any hate-fueled crimes or acts. the family of oscar grant held a virtual town hall today. they are calling on activists to challenge a decision not to charge a second police officer in connection with grant's death. a 2019, independent report found

officer tony, circled here, struck grant in the head and kneed him in the 2009 incident at the bart station. however, a newly released report by the alameda county district attorney's office found there was no injury to grant's head or neck. former officer, who fired the fatal shot, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. even so, grant's family wants to see paroni charged with felony murder. >> we want to set a precedent, set a blueprint, a model, of how to start getting convictions for these rogue officers, that are killing our people. and getting away with state-sponsored and state-sanctioned murder. >> grant's family says 50,000 people have signed a petition demanding that he be charged. the biden-inaugural committee kicked off a week of events with a virtual town hall today, dedicated to celebrating

shared this weekend in honor of dr. martin luther king. a national teach-in took place today and san francisco mayor london breed was among those on the panel. the group discussed a number of topics involving race and social justice, from the protests over the death of george floyd, to the black lives matter movement. >> this movement is more than just a movement. it means something to people's livelihoods. it can't just be you show up for a protest in order to take a picture and put it on your social media page. you have to be in this in your everyday life and what you do. >> breed holds the distinction of being the first black woman to become mayor of san francisco. a colorful festival that celebrates people of color and their work in the comic world is taking place, this weekend. the annual, black and brown comics art festival went online because of the pandemic, this year. you are looking at a roundtable discussion from this morning on the comic book classic "box of bones." the festival is keeping with its

tradition of holding events over the weekend leading to martin luther king jr. day. shifting gears now. getting to the weathe. drew tuma joining us with more on increasing winds and also the warm temperatures that will be sticking around. yeah. dion, both of those things. tomorrow, you will feel those warm temperatures, again. but tomorrow night, and especially into monday morning, we are going to feel some gusty winds, as well. today, we made it into the 70s in many cities. so, certainly, felt more like spring out there, than the middle of winter. tonight, right now. temperatures are slowly falling back into the 50s and into the 60s. we still have a high-surf advisory for the next couple of minutes. this will expire at 7:00 p.m. still have that northwesterly swell that is creating the risk of rip currents right now. tonight, we will have some coastal cloud cover, patchy fog away from the coasts it's a mainly clear night and numbers will bottom out in mid and upper 40s overnight.

tomorrow, it is bright. it is beautiful. it is, also, very warm for this time of the year. these numbers are anywhere from about 10 to 20 degrees above where we should be, for this time of the year. so, a high of 76, tomorrow, in santa rosa. 70 in oakland. 73 in san jose. 74 in concord. 68 in the city, tomorrow. mind you, our normal high, this time of the year, is 58 in san francisco. about 70 in san mateo. fairfield coming in with a warm high of 79 degrees. but tomorrow night, we'll feel those winds begin to increase. so, we have a wind advisory that will go into effect for the entire bay area, starting at 10:00 p.m., tomorrow night. lasting, through 6:00 p.m. tuesday. so, nearly 48 hours that we'll deal with these winds. there is a high-wind watch in effect for solano county and these north winds will be sustained from anywhere from 15 to 30 miles per hour. but likely, in our ridge t we will see gusts exceeding 50 miles per hour so these are

strong winds. let's go hour by hour for you. early-monday morning, you see winds really ramping up. throughout monday, it's a pretty breezy, if not gusty day, in the afternoon. and then, another round of some intense wind gusts coming our way, early-tuesday morning. tuesday morning, see those offshore winds racing over 30 miles per hour. and again, we could likely see some gusts over 50 miles per hour. so, what you could do to prepare for some of these winds we are seeing. secure any outdoor objects you have. don't park under trees because we could see some tree branches come down and that could mean some possible power outages and there is the increased risk of fire danger. not as high as, say, in september or october because we have had some recent rains. but nonetheless, we're still in drought conditions. and those winds are going to increase that fire danger. so we are going to watch that very closely. accuweather seven-day. warm, sunshine tomorrow. windy, monday and tuesday. the winds will calm down wednesday.
