events, like the annual mlk celebration train and march to yerba buena gardens. instead they're pivoting to a virtual celebration with a health and wellness and music festival, reflecting on a year following the police killings of george floyd and breonna taylor and black lives matter protests. >> justice and hope. those are two points that i think king would focus on in his reaction or in his critique of what's going on today. >> griselle says he wants the public to take part in an interactive project by answering this question. >> what does justice and hope mean to you? >> may the circle remain unbroken. >> reporter: oakland's anti-police terror project held this virtual event called black women respond. organizers say they're committed to building an equitable community that dr. king would be proud of. >> this king weekend we join the

collective dreaming for oaklanders where humanity is held sacred, and black people with breathe. >> reporter: even though this year means no gatherings, many say the message of mlk is still powerful. ♪ that we shall overcome today ♪ ♪ >> reporter: now caltrain has been a partner for the separation train event for years. they hope to bring tradition back in 2022. in the newsroom, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> and we would love to see that, cornell. many thanks. turning to the weather right now. taking a look outside, where things, they appear to be calm right now, but powerful and potentially dangerous winds are on their way. much of northern california and the bay area is under a wind advisory beginning tonight. pg&e is even planning potential power shutoffs. none here in the bay area, but they could affect about 21,000 customers tomorrow night in the following counties.

calaveras, fresno, kern, madera, mayor possess sack, san luis obis obispo, santa barbara, tulare and tuolumne. pg&e says the dry wins can damage the power lines. check this out. some dramatic video from the national weather service shows the fierce power of waves yesterday at point lobos near carmel. you can see there that person nearly knocked off the rocks. the weather service even added a warning to stay off the rocks. a high surf advisory has been issued for the california coast through tomorrow afternoon. and people flock to the beach on this warm january day. beaches and parks are open, but social distancing is still required. the warm weather, waves, and the winds, let's figure out what we can expect tomorrow morning. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma staying on top of it all. andrew, those winds expected to pick up overnight. >> yeah, and dion, once they arrive later on tonight, they

will be sticking around for a couple of days. so right now after a really warm day, tonight the winds are generally light. look across the region. it's calm, if not about 3 to 5 miles per hour. but that's going change overnight tonight. it's for that fact. we do have a wind advisory that will begin in just a few hours at 10:00 p.m. tonight and it will last until 6:00 p.m. tuesday. so almost 48 hours underneath this wind advisory for this entire bay area. we're talking about wind gusts potentially over 35 miles per hour, and even stronger gusts in our ridge tops. so we're going take a much closer look. the winds could bring down some trees. look how high the winds go in the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> sounds good. thanks. you can track the winds and check weather conditions where you live any time on abc7news.com and our free abc7 news app. to developing news now. security is beefed up and tight tonight around the u.s. capitol. the entire nation is on high

alert ahead of the inauguration. abc7 news reporter reena roy has a look at the safety measures coast-to-coast. >> reporter: across the country, authorities taking no chances. at least 10 states activating their national guards, kentucky shutting down its capitol. plexiglas going up in boston. the fbi receiving information about pro-trump groups calling for the storm of government buildings on inauguration day. michigan legislators suspending session this week because of credible threats. >> law enforcement officials are working together to ensure that we don't see a repeat of those dangerous illegal and disgraceful actions. >> reporter: the united states postal service temporarily removing mailboxes in at least 17 states, plus the nation's capitol. and up to 25,000 national guard troops will be on the ground there by wednesday. >> our mission here is to protect our people and our property. and so we're going do everything to make sure that they're successful. >> reporter: police arresting a woman at a d.c. checkpoint who

they say claimed to be law enforcement and part of the presidential cabinet. they also took a 22-year-old virginia man spotted with with a holster and glock pistol into custody. the biden team on high alert. >> we're here in a volatile time. we're preparing for any scenario that should arise after noon on january 20th. >> reporter: this as new details emerge from the capitol hill riots. sources telling abc news dominic pisola of rochester, new york, accused of smashing that capitol window allegedly had plans to kill vice president mike pence and house speaker nancy pelosi. he is now this custody, along with tim gianet, a far right media personality of texas who calls himself baked alaska, spotted inside the capitol chanting "patriots are in control." the faces of suspected rioters plastered around d.c. with the fbi asking the public to come forward with any tips that could lead to more arrests. reena roy, abc news, new york.

>> and we spoke with congresswoman barbara lee about security for the inauguration. >> at this moment, the security precautions are really -- have been really enhanced. this looks like baghdad west. these white supremacists who were determined to enter the capitol in an attempted coup are making their continued threats. and so our fbi and the security agencies are tracking the chatter. >> congresswoman lee says law enforcement is doing everything it can to keep the inauguration safe. national guard troops and chp are guarding the capitol in sacramento amid security concerns. chp is patrolling the california state capitol grounds as we speak. national guard troops are covering multiple city blocks that include the capitol building. they were called in following the attack on washington and threats on attacks at capitols across the country.

well, one issue we focus on in our commitment to help build a better bay area is your health, and that includes the covid vaccine roll-out. sonoma county is undertaking a massive effort to get its 9,000 teachers and campus staff vaccinated within two weeks. there are a couple of caveats, though, including how many doses they can get from the state and making sure frontline health care workers get their shots first. schools have been closed in the county since last march. also, sonoma county is named a vaccination czar who will be in charge of the vaccine roll-out. marin county is vaccinating the first of its 8,000 teachers today. the school district says it's inviting school staff who interact directly with students to get vaccinated first, and that includes janitors and bus drivers. like sonoma county, the number of vaccinations, that will depend on the number of doses available. a park in the east bay is getting a new name. the possible tribute to california's native american

roots. ♪ plus, a bay area event today used art to uplift and to celebrate our nation's vice president-elect. a look at a virtual inauguration ball hosted by

phil specter, a 1960s music producer and convicted murderer has died at the aiming of 81. he died in prison of natural causes yesterday. specter was sentenced to 19 years to life for the shooting death of actress lana clarkson. before his conviction, specter was a groundbreaking record producer, musician and songwriter, producing recordings by the musicians, including the beatles, ike and tina turner, chere and the ramons. in the east bay, alameda city leaders are expected to rename a park that was named in honor of president andrew jackson. jackson park was stripped of its name last summer. jackson was a slave owner and forcibly removed native americans from their homelands. our media partner, the mercury news reports the city's recreation and park commission recommends the name chochinyo. another potential name is mabel

tatum, a black woman who advocatedights for low income city residents. the city council is set to make its selection on tuesday. the oakland symphony held a virtual inauguration ball today to celebrate oakland native vice president-elect kamala harris. ♪ >> the free live stream show included music from the sim taken, jazz mafia and many more. the event was hosted by a close friend of harris. tomorrow the vice president-elect will resign from her california senate seat. this is a customary move ahead of her inauguration on wednesday. well we are getting some serious surf along the coast this weekend, but it is nothing compared to this. coming up next, where surfers brave some jaw-dropping monster waves. and strong wind gusts are blowing our way. meteorologist drew tuma will let

oahu's north shore is seeing some of the biggest surf of the season. officials urge people to stay away from the shoreline, but as you can see, surfers saw it as an opportunity to ride the monster waves. some of them reaching 40 to 50-feet high. this video from waimea bay shows the surfers gliding down the face of the wave, only to wipe out. even seasoned veterans said it was just too big. hawaiian lifeguards reported 89 rescues yesterday. now closer to home, we are experiencing high winds and waves as well, but drew, nothing compared to that. >> yeah, nowhere near that. but still we have a high surf advisory in effect along our entire coastline. i know it's the middle of january. we're really hoping for some rain. but today what a gorgeous day. a lot of sunshine, warm temperatures. here is that high surf advisory.

lasting until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. we have wave heights about 7 to 10 feet right now. could see breakers anywhere from 18 to 22-feet high. so the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents will continue through tomorrow afternoon. we set nine record highs today. we all made it into the 70s. so tonight you can bet it's a pretty mild evening. a lot of spots still sitting in the 60s, and even right now, these temperatures, these are just our highs for day, would still be above average for this time of the year. so tonight under mainly clear skies, we'll have a few cirrus clouds moving in from time to time. but overall it's pretty quiet in terms of our sky. upper 40s to lower 50s. but the big story tonight is our wind. and they will ramp up overnight tonight. so we have that wind advisory starting at 10:00 p.m. for the entire bay area. so let's go hour by hour for you. show you those winds tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. you can see they increase out of the north. and it looks like monday morning

the strongest wind gusts will likely find in the north bay. tomorrow, throughout the day, it's pretty breezy, if not gusty into the afternoon. you can see the winds anywhere from 15 to about 35 miles per hour. tomorrow is also another warm day. likely more records will be set tomorrow. so highs on our holiday, all in the 70s again. 70 in half moon bay. 72 in the city. 76 in san jose with sun-soaked skies. 74 in oakland. the same in napa. and 76 the high in concord. as we go to tomorrow night and tuesday morning, the winds will actually strengthen even more. so a high wind warning will begin tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, and the santa cruz mountains through tuesday morning where we could see wind gusts in ridge tops 60 to 70 miles per hour. so i think tomorrow night we're all going to feel that wind, especially near the valley floor. you can see wind gusts 30, if

not 35 miles per hour. that does continue into tuesday morning itself. so under these winds, we'll not only see the potential for some trees to come down, but also some power lines to come down that could cause some isolated power outages. the accuweather seven-day forecast, it is windy on a holiday tomorrow. it's a warm day again in the 70s. we'll cool off a little bit, but we'll have the winds still pretty strong tuesday morning. they'll calm down tuesday afternoon as that wind advisory expires. then as we go through the latter half of the seven-day forecast, it's trending dryer, but cooler by friday and saturday, or back into the 50s. and our next chance of showers coming next sunday night. now abc7 sports with chris alvarez. >> in just a few hours, the nfl's final four will be set. tom brady and the bucs taking on drew brees and the saints. the winner will take on the packers for the nfc championship trick mes hosting the browns' afc divisional.
