kate larson is in santa rosa when she spoke to a wednesday inside at the time the tree came crashing down. >> reporter: you can see it came crashing through the fence between 8:30 to 9:00 tonight. take a look. much worse than the fence, the tree came crashing through and destroyed this house in santa rosa and i actually spoke to the woman that lives here. she said right after 8:20 p.m. when there was a small earthquake, 2.7 magnitude, she had a feeling something would go wrong between that and the gusts, the wind advisory and warnings. she actually packed a bag and moments later the tree came crashing through her yard and her house. that is the kitchen that you see

destroyed there in the front of the house. she was able to escape and called the fire department who showed up here. pg&e has been dealing with the downed power line which caused a fire in santa rosa this morning made worse by those wind gusts. made worse because of the strong winds that we are experiencing. their advice continues through tomorrow, to stay inside if you can. if it is safe. if there is damage, get out. if you can stay inside, that is the safest thing to do right now until the fire crews and the pg&e crews make sure everything here is safe. that is the latest here in santa rosa. >> and the winds are only going to get stronger overnight, dan. >> pretty tricky, ama, with this heat. we are tracking the latest here

on this powerful wind. >> reporter: the winds are incredibly strong tonight. winds are gusting to 62 miles per hour right now. in the oakland hills close to 50 miles per hour and similar story in the north bay. moments ago we had a wind gust close to 50 miles per hour in the city. it is a windy night and it will remain windy overnight tonight. we have a wind advisory in effect until tomorrow evening. the strongest winds with the highest wind warning will last until tomorrow morning. >> developing news, a search has been called off for a 12-year-old boy who was pulled

into the ocean by a strong current. it happened at cowell ranch state beach about 3:45 this afternoon. j.r. stone explains, rescue crews spent the entire night scouring the water. >> reporter: crews working into the darkness and the nighttime hours in search of 12-year-old seen here in this picture provided by his father. >> we will keep looking as long as we can. >> reporter: officials say he was swept into the partial ocean monday afternoon. initial responders could see the 12-year-old from a cliff seconds after they arrived. >> they saw a juvenile, a young man in the water, a boy, in the water about 100 yards out. and they lost sight of him. he unfortunately went under and hasn't been seen since. >> reporter: he was sitting on the sand when a wave swept him, his father and 8-year-old brother into the ocean.

his father and brother were able to get out. witnesses say that the waves were strong. >> the surf was high, kind of like more just giant waves going one after the other, like a washing machine as if you were in the water. >> reporter: minute night his heart broken father could barely make out his words telling him he is hopeful the search is continuing until his son is found. officials continuing to do just that but in the morning when there is light. >> the biggest challenge at nighttime is the lack of light. it is really dark out there. you can't see very well. >> reporter: j.r. stone, abc 7 news. >> our thoughts are with that family. new at 11:00, an earthquake rattled the north bay. a magnitude 2.7. it was centered just north of santa rosa and hit just after 8:15 and more than 1,600 people reported feeling it and a few thought it was a strong gust of wind. california is the first state to

surpass 3 million total coronavirus cases, according to data from johns hopkins university. tonight, there are new concerns about allergic reactions to a specific batch of the moderna vaccine. several bay area counties are pausings it use. chris reyes spoke to a doctor answering the question, should you be concerned. >> reporter: what are the most common questions you are getting from patients about the allergic reactions. >> what is my personal risk of having an allergic reaction to this particular vaccine. is this vaccine likely to cause serious allergic reactions. >> reporter: she has been taking a lot of calls lately at her clinic after reports of severe allergic reactions to a specific lot of moderna vaccines administered at a community clinic in san diego and now california recommends on pausing giving out the shots until a

serious investigation. >> as an allergegist, i know that serious allergic reactions can be treated. >> reporter: she is telling her patients to be cautious but not anxious. >> when you get vaccinated you should be monitored for about 30 minutes at the site in case if there is an allergic reaction that can be taken care of immediately. >> reporter: she hopes providers will get better at risk categorizing their patients and understanding what causes the reaction. >> i personally think the risk at this point is fairly low, so majority of the population should be able to get the vaccine. california received well over 3 million doses of covid-19 vaccine, but just 43% have been administered. the supply is there but not keeping up with demand. the state has one of the worst backlogs in the country in fact.

the cdc data ranks the state 45th when it comes to the shots administered per 100,000 people. >> looking at the data and numbers, a lot of the outstanding vaccines that are still not being used are vaccines that were meant for those high-risk people. and they have not gotten to them. >> governor newsom said the state would administer a million vaccines in the next ten days and california came up well short with about 282,000 doses. >> a covid-19 variant recently found in the south bay is being blamed for numerous large outbreaks. health officials say that it has been found in nursing facilities, county jails and shelters. they have also seen it in specimens taken at community test sites. it may sound like a scary thing but disease experts are trying
