talking about. there is going to be a lot of debris on the roads. quick look at the temperatures. mid to upper 50s on the peninsula, and just about everywhere this morning, low to upper 50s. so, look at this, 30 to 55-mile-per-hour winds up in tilden park and berkeley hills. that is incredible. so, temperatures today, low to mid-60s, even with sunshine. the winds are going to keep our temperatures down today, most likely away from record levels and about ten degrees cooler than yesterday. all right, let's look at thursday, you see increasing clouds that will continue the warming trend. the chance for rain on friday, saturday is going to be in the mid to upper 50s, sunday in the mid-50s with increasing clouds. look at this sunday night to monday. we have another chance of wet weather. so we have got a 1 on the storm impact scale for friday. less than a tenth of an inch of rain. hopefully for monday, a quarter to possibly a half inch of much needed rain. all right, let's turn our attention back to the winds and traffic and talk to sue about what she's seen. hi, sue.

developing news out of san mateo county, the u.s. coast guard will resume its search this morning for a 12-year-old boy who was swept into the ocean. it happened at cowell state beach. arunay pruthi was sitting on the sand when a powerful wave swept him and his father and his brother into the water. his father and brother were able to get out. first responders could see pruthi from a cliff seconds after they arrived, they say he went under the water and has not been seen since. >> surf was really high. it was more like just giant waves going one after the other.

it was like a washing machine, as if you were in the water. >> they worked into the night to try and find pruthi. they suspended their search when it became too dark to see. >> okay. now we're going to talk about how to get your kids learning during a pandemic without everyone driving each other crazy. of course, there are lots of challenges when it comes to setting household rules. this morning, cleveland clinic is sharing tips for pandemic parenting. for starters, pick your battles. and make a list of rules that are the most important. make sure you're being consistent, otherwise your kids may think they can bend the rulrule s whenever they want and don't be afraid to say no. >> it is easy to say have the extra cookie or stay up an extra hour, but it is important to stay firm to your rules, your expectations. >> now, dr. susan alberts is is a cleveland clinic psychologist. she suggest talksing with other parents to see what's working for them and suggests you're not too hard on yourself.

and if all else fails, just scream. that's right. with everything going on, maybe you just want to yell out to no one in particular. and now you can do it. there is a hot line offering relief. it is called just scream. all you have to do is call the number, yell as loud as you want for as long as you want and then hang up. nothing else happens. an elementary schoolteacher created this to help people reduce their stress. it was done just before election day and it is going to end january 21st, the day after the inauguration. i just called it. >> you did? >> something happened i didn't expect and i'll play it for you right now. >> just scream. >> it screams at you. that kind of scared me. i thought you should know that before you call. >> i don't see the stress relief

in that. >> i don't either. i thought it was going to be a very soothing spa-like voice. >> right. >> i don't need the screaming. >> wow, wow. well, i hope they do a mashup on that or something or put it all together and put it out on social media. i would like to hear all the different kinds of screams. that would be crazy. maybe you're screaming about pulling your hair out this morning. some of the damage that's around. i'm going to show you this. this came out from the national weather service, what caught my attention, 97-mile-per-hour wind gusts in northern sonoma county from a pg&e reporting station there. look at this, tree limb damage from a 57-mile-per-hour gust at 3:40 this morning in san francisco. 4:15, a tree uprooted, damage at least the roof of a parked car. so that may be the one you were talking about earlier, reggie, with that tree coming down on the car. and look at this, look at sfo, 53 miles per hour. 31 at san jose. 35 at concord.
6:20 am
everybody this morning, what has me concerned, look at the bri bridge, that is a nearly perpendicular wind, you're going to get pushed sideways as you're crossing through the morning hours. hold on to the steering wheel tight. it is parallel to the bay bridge and turns more perpendicular again across the san mateo and dumbarton bridge. we need to be extra vigilant crossing those bridges this morning. so up around 3,000 feet, gusts 60 to 80, nearly 100 miles per hour, the difference this morning from yesterday morning, the air is cold. it is heavier. it is sinking into our valleys and that's why all of us are dealing with that damaging wind this morning. and will through at least 10:00, possibly up to 6:00, minor damage. damaging winds this morning, windy during the daylight, much cooler highs and chance of rain showers friday and chance of rain monday. a better chance on monday. both are a 1 on the storm impact

scale. highs today, in the mid to upper 60s, by friday, we're locked into the 50s all the way through monday. what an event we're dealing with, still a couple of hours to go, jobina, reggie? >> thank you. we're going bring in ginger zee with a look at what's happening at 7:00 today on "good morning america." hi, ginger. >> hi, reggie, hi, jobina. i'm going to be covering the winds for sure and how they're moving to southern california. but, of course, the show we have to get into the latest about the final hours of president trump's presidency. he is expected to issue a flurry of pardons which i know you've been reporting on. that's to more than 100 people and has just lifted covid international travel restrictions. so how long will those stick around? well, this morning we'll have more on that and the security in our nation's capitol before president-elect joe biden gets inaugurated. also, how biden is preparing for a transition like never before. we will also get into the new administration and how they're planning to speed up the vaccine

return home about an hour later. severe wind and recent warm weather bringing the threat of winter wildfires to sonoma county. >> little bit of rain we have had has increased the fuel moisture so the threat of a large fire goes down somewhat. but when we get the wind, it increases again too because the wind is the great factor that is uncontrollable. fire season no longer happens from may through october. unfortunately it does happen year round. >> and right now, firefighters are working to contain a fire in sonoma county. this is off of big geyser road east of geyserville. at one point, wind gusts were reaching about 80 miles an hour. the fire is not threatening any homes or structures. strong winds are also bringing down power lines around the bay area. thousands are in the dark right now, we're going to zoom in first to oakland, because this is where our biggest outage is right now. about 6,000 people without power and this you can see here is east of lake merit. we want to move to lafayette now, there are 1700 people
