kaiser permanente tee in santa clara county is changing the minimum age for covid-19 vaccine eligibility to 75. kaiser had been the only provider vaccinating people 65. e cng due to vaccine e makin supplies and all other agencies and providers in santa clara county. the vaccine is also available to eligible health care workers in phase 1-a. meanwhile, san francisco is faced with serious supply shortfalls, even so city and health leaders today set an aggressive goal to fully vaccinate all their residents by the end of june. abc7 news reporter laura anthony has the story. >> we anticipate everything we have in our possession will be gone by thursday. >> reporter: despite mayor london breed's dire predictions about running out of covid-19 vaccine, san francisco public health leaders have set a goal of vaccinating all 900,000 residents by the end of june. what's unclear given a severe

supply shortage is how they'll get there. >> for far too many of our residents at one of the most anxious, scary, traumatic moments in their lives, there are still no clear answers. >> reporter: the city plans to launch its first mass vaccination site this friday at college city college with with h 500,000 set aside. beside city college, two other sites are set to open february 1st. at moscone center. providers like kaiser, dignity and sutter. >> we are committed, as everybody is in this meeting, to the urgency of vaccinating the community. >> reporter: ramping up infrastructure is one thing. but the larger challenge right now is securing supply. there are some 200,000 people over 65 in san francisco. the age demographic that represents 83% of the city's covid deaths to date.

but so far, public and private providers in san francisco have been allotted just 123,000 doses by the federal government. laura anthony, abc7 news. >> and tonight a new covid-19 vaccine being tested at stanford is moving into a final phase that could potentially lead to its rollout in a matter of weeks. and while experts caution that the data on the johnson & johnson vaccine is not in yet, it does hold the promise of changing the vaccine landscape rather dramatically with a single dose. as concern grows over the slow pace of covid vaccinations in the united states, there is hope that could turn the tide. the vaccine from johnson & johnson would be the first to be given in a single shot without requiring a booster. it's been in clinical trial at sites across the country including stanford. and tonight researchers say they've been given word to lock the data they've gathered to this point so the company can quickly begin the review process. >> they will review the data in

an unblinded fashion and see if the medication looks effective. >> dr. philip grant has been leading the trial at fan stored. he believes an announcement from johnson & johnson could come early next month. >> then at that point they'll be turning in their application and with similar timing we may see if it works, an approval by i'd say mid to late february. >> while dr. grant cautions, the final data isn't in yet. earlier phase 2 results have been described as promising. and earlier this week, dr. anthony fauci said he believes that vaccines from johnson & johnson and astrazeneca will reach fda review in a matter of weeks. and the impact could be significant. unlike the moderna and pfizer formulas, the johnson & johnson vaccine does not require any special deep cold refrigeration. and experts say the single dose could make it much easier to distribute. >> it's much easier if you say, we have the supply here. we can get it to you. versus, we have the supply here.

what's going to be here in three weeks, it makes that management much more straightforward. >> johnson & johnson also used a similar platform to deliver a groundbreaking vaccine to fight a recent ebola outbreak in africa earning it the reputation of being sturdy and transportable. something like a four-wheel drive of vaccines. now the hope is that it will help drive down surging infections from covid-19. and one other encouraging note here. researchers say the different technologies used to johnson & johnson vaccine along with the pfizer and moderna drugs are both very flexible. that could become important if the covid virus meow tautates e if the vaccine
