under control with more masking, testing and vaccine supplies. >> we're in a national emergency and it's time we treat it like one. >> the president signed more executive orders on his first full day in office including a requirement for mask wearing at airports, on planes and when using public transportation. >> this is the promoting safe travel. >> a new study shows nearly half of adults don't wear masks when they're in close contact with people outside their households. president biden has also directed fema to set up 100 vaccine centers and he's invoking the defense production act to order private companies to make supplies like syringes for the vaccine. >> the brutal truth is, it's going to take months before we can get the majority of americans vaccinated. >> many states are already running low on vaccine supplies. new york could run out of doses today. 15 vaccination hubs are temporarily closing in new york city. >> we had to tell 23,000 new yorkers who had an appointment this week that they will not be able to get that appointment for lack of supply. >> states are now cracking down

on so-called vaccine tourism, people who travel from out of state to get their shots like this alabama couple who drove two hours to georgia. >> they knew that we were coming from out of state, and they said that that was fine. so we didn't feel like we were pushing anybody else out, which we didn't want to do. >> reporter: officials in georgia and florida now saying vaccines are for residents only. >> you have people that live here six months. that's fine, they use the hospitals here. they pay taxes, but to just kind of come in from another country or whatever, you know, we don't support that, and we're not going to allow that. >> reporter: president biden has promised 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days in office, but he's facing questions about that plan given that the u.s. has already been able to reach 1 million shots per day. >> is that high enough? shouldn't you set the bar higher? basically where the u.s. is right now. >> when i announced it, you all said it's not possible. come on, give me a break, man. it's a good start. 100 million. thank you. >> biden is also promising regular appearances from dr.

anthony fauci, who had a rocky relationship with former president trump. dr. fauci expressed a sense of relief during his first briefing under the biden administration. >> it was really something that you didn't feel that you could actually say something and there wouldn't be any repercussions about it. the idea that you can get up here and talk about what you know, what the evidence, what the science is and know that's it, let the science speak, it is somewhat of a liberating feeling. >> fauci feeling free there. nationwide covid hospitalizations have dropped in the last week, but new mutations of the virus could erase that progress. breaking overnight, thousands of national guard troops were abruptly kicked out of the u.s. capitol but then allowed to return after an outcry from lawmakers. the troops who came to washington to guard the inauguration of joe biden were forced to use a nearby parking garage as a rest area after they were ordered to leave the capitol grounds thursday. they said they felt betrayed as they took refuge, as you see

here, in this garage with only one bathroom and one power outlet for 5,000 troops. senator tammy duckworth, who was an iraq war veteran, was among the lawmakers expressing outrage tweeting, unreal. i can't believe the same brave service members we've been asking to protect our capitol would be unceremoniously ordered to vacate the building. i am demanding answers asap. they can use my office. duckworth later tweeted an update saying the capitol police apologized and let the troops back in. the fbi is now offering a $75,000 reward in the search for the person who planted two pipe bombs in washington january 6th. the bombs were safely defused by experts. meanwhile, a new arrest from the capitol riot. agents say william calhoun, a lawyer from georgia, bragged about kicking down nancy pelosi's door. now, to the impeachment trial of former president trump. some republicans are supporting an effort to dismiss the trial claiming it's unconstitutional because trump is out of office. meanwhile, the entire process could be delayed until mid-february. abc's elizabeth schulze is in

washington with the latest on this. elizabeth, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kenneth. well, former president trump is getting his defense team in order as republicans push to delay his impeachment trial. this morning, new uncertainty surrounding the time line of former president trump's impeachment trial in the senate. republican leader mitch mcconnell is proposing the trial be delayed for at least two weeks saying trump needs more time to prepare because the senate cannot short-circuit the due process. house democrats who voted to impeach trump last week for inciting the capitol riot have signaled they want a quick trial. >> they've now informed us they're ready to receive. the question is, are there questions about how a trial will proceed, but we are ready. >> reporter: with democrats now controlling the senate, it's up to majority leader chuck schumer to lay out the time line. schumer's office says they're reviewing mcconnell's suggestion. meanwhile, trump spent his first full day out of the white house

thursday on the golf course, and now he's naming his first lawyer for the impeachment trial, attorney butch bowers, a fixture in south carolina politics who's represented former governors mark sanford and nikki haley. senator lindsey graham calls bowers, quote, a solid guy. >> we're going to fight like hell to make sure the second impeachment of donald trump ends as quickly as possible, either dismissed or with an overwhelming vote for acquittal. >> reporter: in the meantime, mcconnell is criticizing several executive actions taken by president biden during his first hours in office. a signal of the partisan divide that still looms on capitol hill. >> on the biden administration's very first day, it took several big steps in the wrong direction. there's still plenty of time for president biden to remember that he does not owe his election to the far left. >> reporter: and president biden is also facing pushback against his $1.9 trillion covid relief package. senate republicans say it won't get the 60 votes needed to pass. kenneth. >> all right, elizabeth there in

washington, thank you. the biden administration has hidden a message on the white house website. it's in the coding of the site, and it says, if you're reading this, we need your help building back better. it ends with a link to an office that aims to improve digital communications. a judge has refused to reinstate the social media platform parler after amazon web services banned the site in the wake of the capitol attack. the judge said amazon had the right to ban parler, which continued to allow users to post threats after the attack. we're following breaking news from washington state. a fire spreading through this potato factory in grant county forced people to evacuate. you see flames there. firefighters on the scene. crews are concerned about an ammonia tank that could explode. police went door to door to evacuate people immediately. no injuries reported. time now for a look at your friday weather. the most severe weather in the nation today will be around the

♪ waiting to get back into theaters, mgm is delaying the latest bond film, "no time to die," for the third time because of the pandemic. the april release date has been pushed back to october. a former technician for the adt home security company in texas has been charged with hacking accounts and watching customers in their homes. authorities say the 35-year-old admits gaining access to cameras of 200 customers over a four-year period. they say he kept track of homes with attractive women watching them sleep and undress. he now faces up to five years in prison. to protect yourself, experts say change your passwords often. we turn now to a lottery mystery in one small town where someone is holding a $731 million powerball ticket. abc's andrea fujii explains why we may never know the big winner. >> reporter: welcome to lonaconing, maryland, population, 1,200.

people actually getting in line, waiting, only ending up going home without getting the shot because these centers have run out of vaccine. so there is really a need for a coordinated effort, which we're all going to start seeing now with the new administration. >> we're hearing that thousands of people who got the first dose of the vaccine may actually be overdue for their second dose of the vaccine. how concerned are you about the spacing between the two inoculations? >> well, erielle, i am concerned because now we're seeing some cases where there are people getting shots of the other vaccine, so if you got the moderna shot, people are thinking about getting the pfizer shot after four weeks. and that's just not recommended. we really need to have the spacing as recommended three weeks for the pfizer and four weeks for the moderna vaccine because that's what we have the data that shows the most effectiveness. and a study out of "the new england journal of medicine" shows that the second booster
