had promised to reach in december, but some states are being forced to cancel appointments because supplies are running out. the new cdc director acknowledges that they're not sure how vaccine is out there today. >> the fact that we don't know today, five days into this administration, and weeks into planning how much vaccine we have, give us a challenge of what we've been left with. >> reporter: key figures are now opening about president trump's coronavirus task force. in a candid interview with "the new york times" dr. anthony fauci says, despite clashing with trump he never considered resigning. dr. fauci tells "the times," i always felt that if i did walk the skunk at the picnic would no longer be at the picnic. adding he couldn't resign, because someone had to push back on the nonsense being spouted from the administration. and dr. deborah birx growing further, trump presented graphs at the briefings last year that she never made. >> i saw the president presenting graphs that i never made.

ever running for office again. alex presha's here with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, kyra. that article of impeachment against former president trump will be delivered to the senate today and it comes amid new reports that trump pressured the justice department to overturn the election. this morning, new outrage from democrats over allegations former president trump considered using the justice department to try to overturn the results of the presidential election. >> as if it's not enough that he sent an angry mob down the mall to invade the capitol. >> reporter: "the wall street journal" reported that the trump wanted the justice department to sue states in the supreme court. when that plan failed, "the new york times" said he allegedly plotted to remove acting attorney general and replace him with a trump loyalist. >> we fight like hell. and if you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore. >> reporter: the former president is already charged with incitement of insurrection. after he urged his supporters to march to the capitol before the deadly riot on january 6th.

later today, the house sends that article of impeachment to the senate where democrats will need at least 17 republicans. to vote to convict trump. gop leader mitch mcconnell not saying. but some are already blasting the trial before it even begins. >> we have a flaming fire in this country. >> reporter: at least one republican is still refusing to say the election was not stolen. >> the department of justice led by william barr said there's no widespread evidence of fraud. can't you just say the words -- this election was not stolen -- >> reporter: senator rand paul in a fiery exchange with abc's george stephanopoulos on "this week." >> hold on a second, he said the election was stolen, this election was not stolen. the results were certified in every state after counts and recounts. >> you're saying -- you're saying there was no fraud and it's all been investigated. that's just not true. >> that's not what i said, sir. i said the justice department found -- let me finish my point.
