so i think it is fair to be aware of it. >> when fire burns hot it changes the chemical composition of the soil causing it to not hold as easily and can lead to slides. >> also an impact on the bay your fight against covid-19. in san francisco testing and vaccination sites will be closing for days during the storm. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live with more on the how the city preparing. >> reporter: kumasi, look a in the site behind me, at city college, this site. the tents could be swept away in the winds. the staff and volunteers are unsherltdered as they guide people in and out. it just would not work in this storm so they will close today at noon and will be closed through thursday. city residents are also being asked to prepare and take this storm seriously. especially those who live if areas known for fleetwooding like this spot at folsom and 17th where crews have had to pump out water in the past

because of heavy rain. so here are some tips to prepare. they are suging you check in on your friends and family. make sure everyone is okay. pick up free sandbags at san francisco's public works. elevate your belongs in the garage or low-lying areas. store the emergency items up high and then remove debris. sweep up leaves from storm drains. clear those gutters. outreach teams will also be outtrying to get supplies like socks and blankets to the homeless and trying to encourage them to come inside, take advantage of those shelters and navigation centers. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> sandbags are available for those who need them. in san jose there are multiple sites across the city and santa cruz you can get them at 17th avenue. crews also have heavy equipment on standby to clear debris. also in monterey where are

we'll go in chronological order and you can see just about everybody away from water. san rafael and vallejo here the water freezing cold. freezing cold temperatures in the east bay valleys, getting closer on newark and into the south bay. san francisco and daly city in the 40s. this afternoon it is going to be wet with light rain developing to moderate rainbow in the north bay low- to mid-50s. by 5:00 tomorrow morning the heaviest of rain is over but more scattered downpours are developing across the north bay. temperatures in the 40s. the best chance for measurable snow will be in lake county in the entire system. flash flooding possible. a 48 hour window 4:00 this afternoon to 4:00 thursday

with. calm this morning. stormy this afternoon in the north bay and the rest of us will get it during the evening and overnight hours in the potential for flooding is there. especially on roadways and then on the burn scars. they are going to be the hardest hit. the storm slowly moves south of monterey and that is where the hard etc. hit areas will be. we'll still our issues with the wind and flooding. the snow level, you can sigh when the heaviest of rain is moving in t sflou level is going to rise. so any snow that falls outside the lake county more than likely with the warming temperature and the heavy rain coming down is going to take away most of that snow. here is a look at future radar. 9:00 this morning we're wafing the showers develop off the coast. light rain will develop in the north bay and along the coast by noon. and that is going to be around for the better part of the afternoon hours until you see some yellow move into the north bay at 4:00 and notice the white in lake county which really never leaves u. you are going to

get so much snow out of this system. and by 9:30, the front shl downpours, the reds moving out of the bay. through about 3:00 in the morning. and then that is it for that round. you can see by 3:00 there is going to be another wave of showers and that will be possible through tomorrow's morning commute. a look at the potential rainfall over today and tomorrow. and you can see up near an inch to an inch and a half. they pulled back a little bit because the storm is moving so fast. but still, like 3-5 inches in our mountains in the north bay and the east bay are possible. my accuweather 7-day forecast. 3 for today and tonight and then we'll have waves of showers for wednesday all the way through thursday. so we'll go from a 3 to a 2 to a moderate storm and then light gradual rains for friday, saturday, sunday, monday. and keep us locked mainly in the 50s. that is your forecast for now. be ready. >> thank you, mike.

today marks one year since the helicopter crash that killed nba legend kobe bryant, his daughter gianna and seven others. the ntsb is planning to finish its crash investigation in two weeks. the crash happened in the foggy hills of calabasas as bryant and others were flying from his home to a youth basketball tournament. kobe's passing has stayed on the minds of basketball greats ever since. >> i know i still have, you know, trouble with it. you know, i -- you still just can't believe it. >> devastating and as tragic as it was and still is, to all of us involved with it, you know, only time. and it takes time. >> documents show the pilot was likely disoriented in the fog, thinking that the helicopter was ascending at the time of the crash. >> tom brady and yet another super bowl in two weeks and his parent who is live in san mateo are planning to go to tampa and watch him in person.

we're now learning that both of them had covid-19. speaking our sister network, brady's father says he and tom brady's mother were battling covid-19 when the nfl season started. tom brady senior was hospitalized for three weeks. he and brady's mother are 76 years old and she is is a breast cancer survivor. >> it was a matter of life and death. just like anybody goes through it. it is serious stuff. we're just representative of 25 million americans who have had this stuff. >> both are fine now and still live in the family home in san mateo. brady's father says they have never missed a game until this season. >> wow. coming up next, the seven things to know this morning. >> a staggering case of fraud targeting the edd. the

hearing from residents who are leaving home and others planning to ride it out. a look ilive look outside. looks clear now but that is all changing in less than 12 hours. mike has the storm's timeline. good morning, welcome to tuesday january 26th. >> first let's check with mike because we know a lot of people are wondering when this storm is coming in. >> good point kumasi. and you have two parts to today's weather. two headlines. first the freezing cold temperatures this morning in the santa clara valley, the east bay valleys t north bay valleys and solano county. keep everything protected through at least 8:00, 9:00 as temperatures already falling into the 20 in some of our deepest valleys. and here is what's coming in tonight. this is going touch all of it us. the first one of the season a strong storm on the storm impact scale of light to moderate rain. heavy downpours, intense torrential rains and likely snow

in higher elevations that turn over to rain as we get deeper into the system. through 7:00 we're still freezing cold and then hovering around the upper-40s to 50 degrees into the afternoon. rain will move into the north bay by noon. for the rest of us by 4:00. after 4:00 is when it gets heaviest. and i'll let you know when that ends and how much to expect and all the watches and warnings coming up. back to reggie for the news. >> thanks mike, already the storm having an impact on the fight against covid-19. testing and vaccination sites have to close early because of the weather. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in asterisk in morning. >> reporter: reggie, good morning, this site here at city college is one of a few sites that will be impacted. these tents and this outdoor setup just won't work in the storm. so the city of san francisco will close the covid test site at the potrero hill health center at noon and it will reopen friday morning.

the em barrack droe site will close at 4:00 today and here at city college, the vaccination site will close at noon through thursday. the city also issuing tips to help people get through the storm, saying it is important to check on friends and family. suggesting you pick up free sandbags if you feel you need them at the san francisco public works department. they are suggesting you elevate your belongs in your garage and low-lying areas. store emergence items and first aid kits up high. and if you can get rid of debris. sweep up leaves from storm drains, clear them out of gutters. if you see flooded areas, clogged drains during the storm over the next few days, they say call 3-1-1 to reever report it. live in san francisco. abc7 news. some who live in the santa ahead of the storm. abc7 news anchor dan ashley

it is tuesday, january 26th, a lot to know about the weather this morning. and mike nicco has our answers. hi, mike. >> good morning, reggie, jobina, kumasi, thank you for joining us. let's set the table this morning, how cold it is outside. the south bay, the east bay valleys, the north bay, keep the pets, plants and pipes protected through least 8:00, 9:00 as the temperatures are going to remain below freezing during that time. and then the second part of our day will be full of rain in mountain snow. that will eventually turn over to rain except for in lake county where it stays mountain snow. congratulations. you're getting almost a blizzard up there. one to three inches of snow possible, winds gusting 30 to 50 if not higher in the higher elevations. you see the storm winding up as it is leaving the gulf of alaska and migrating quickly down towards us. look for rapidly changing conditions today. we start in the 20s and 30s in most areas, we'll hover in the 40s to near 50 with rain and snow arriving in the north bay
