hour-by-hour look at the timelines and warnings coming up. >> a major storm topples restaurants and causing a lot of concern. >> battered by rain and threatened by mudslides, how boulder creek residents are bracing for the storm. >> it is windy, wet and cold outside. i will show you conditions on the peninsula in my story. abc 7 news starts right now. >> building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. this is abc 7 news. >> another horrible year with the fires, pandemic, i don't know. i have been beat up so much i don't know what to do anymore. >> torrential rains, gusty winds and snow. a powerful storm is moving across the bay area right now. >> we have seen downed trees, power outages and storm damage as well. we have live team coverage across the bay area for you tonight. >> let's begin with sandhya patel who is tracking the storm's path right now.

sandhya. >> yeah, ama and dan, it is one ferocious storm. live doppler 7 showing you the intensity of the rain has picked up in the past hour. down street level where it is pouring right now across parts of the north bay into mill valley, miller avenue. that is why a flood advisory has been posted for the north bay until 2:15 in the morning. san francisco. south city into the east bay, oakland, mcarthure boulevard, berkeley, not as intense in san jose but pouring across the santa cruz mountains. winds are howling in half moon bay. strong storm, drenching rain, flooding, debris flow and damaging winds. flash flood until 4:00 p.m. there is a risk of mudslides and we are starting to see flash flooding. dangerous winds with a high wind warning.

damaging winds already being seen with the downed trees and power lines and strong winds prompting the wind advisory. gusts up to 65 there. i will be back with an hour-by-hour look at the timeline. >> the roads are a mess right now. this accident happened on the lower deck of the bay bridge 30 minutes ago. a big rig jack knifed and there is a small fuel leak. three lanes are currently blocked. officers hoped to have it cleared by 11:30. >> let's take a live look at pg&e's website. there are a lot of them right now. the map has been busy all night. just about every out acknowledges because of the weather. thousands lost their electricity. >> in the north bay video in shows some of the first damage from the storm. a large tree crashed down on to a home. initial reports were that a family was inside at the time. nobody was seriously hurt and now that family needs a new

place to stay. cornell bernard is live in santa rosa where the brunt of the storm is hitting. cornell. >> reporter: yeah, dan, cold, wet, windy here on old court house square. the storm leaving outdoor dining tents damaged like that one right over there and it blew others down the street. >> we see a tent fly into the ple middle of the street. >> reporter: ripping the outdoor dining tent froms it moorings. watch what happened. another huge tent goes airborne across the street. >> my neighbor's tent flew off too. >> i saw that. >> oh, my god. i don't know what we are go to do. >> reporter: across town the outdoor tent here was taking on water. >> we have 200 zip ties and a

bunch of straps and tough like that. >> reporter: fierce winds and heavy rain made driving treacherous on highway 101. >> making sure everybody is prepared for the possibility of debris flow. >> reporter: firefighters went door to door where burn scars from last year's glass fire are close by and there is a possible threat of mudslides here and homeowners are asked to be vigilant and have a plan to evacuate if needed. >> seems like, you know, stuff rolls downhill and we are at the bottom. >> reporter: it is really raining hard here. certainly the possibility of flooding remains a very strong possibility tonight. also getting word about 800 customers in the area of steel lane in santa rosa are without power.

pg&e trying to turn the lights back on there. i am cornell barnard, abc 7 news. >> his jacket is soaked to the bone. snowy, slushy, slippery tonight in higher elevations of lake county. parts are under a winter storm warning through tomorrow. the area is getting snow above the 2,000 foot elevation level, making driving treacherous and keeping snowplows busy. >> i didn't have a lot of traction on. i am not used to it. >> no fun. >> take a look at what happened in inverness. a large tree came down and smashed a mercedes suv. the sheriff says nobody was hurt. >> thank goodness. right now people in the santa cruz mountains are bracing for the worst of the storm. more than 5,000 residents have

been ordered to evacuate. more than 200 have chosen to stay in their homes despite threats of mud slights. kris, why are some decide to stay? >> reporter: yeah. i did ama, first the conditions have changed in the last hour or so. the rains are heavier. the winds are picking up. we are actually down the street from a evacuation center. as you said for the residents i talked to it was a personal choice whether to stay or leave. >> even if we have mudslides or anything i am confident i can get out. >> reporter: enough supplies to last for weeks, that is why jennifer and michael parks decided to stay behind and had to sign a waiver to issue the mandatory evacuation. >> i am not anxious that my house is go to get torn away. i am most anxious that the roads

will get blocked. >> reporter: one of the reasons many neighbors decided to leave including jeanie who is staying in her trailer in moss landing. >> the thought of being caught on the road when something like that happened was terrifying. >> reporter: they held a zoom meeting to remind the public to leave their homes now if they can stressing the conditions can change quickly and roads can get blocked. this is the scene at 8:00 p.m. in boulder creek, a steady rain kept the streets mostly clear. >> our response could be significantly hampered. >> reporter: for the parks, the safest choice is to stay put, knowing their home is not near dangerous hills. >> it is a wonderful place to live. there are natural hazards you have to prepare for. >> reporter: road closures are the big concern. so far nothing to report but the

conditions could change at any moment. we have a whole list of resources, sand bags, evacuation centers on the website abc7news.com. kris reyes for abc 7 news. conditions always changing as we can see. the storm has brought out all kinds of reinforcements. santa clara county is deploying this mobile unit to deploy cell phone and satellite service for first responders. >> it will be needed over the next couple of days. the heavy rain is moving into the peninsula right now and j.r. stone is live, what does it look like there. not coming down too hard at this moment. >> not in this very moment. just five minutes ago it was a hard downpour, dan. it is cold. it is wet. it is windy out here even though you might not see it right now. you go off on to some of the

lights and you can see the amount of rain that is coming down right now. while it may not look that bad it picked up considerably in the last 30 minutes. extremely slick road conditions tuesday night along highway 101 in san bruno, travellers still taking to the roadways as people are still taking to the streets. >> i have a son in chicago. this is snow. we have nothing to complain about. the bay area always needs rain. we won't complain. >> ricardo lost power for a brief period tuesday night. so they decided to brave the elements. >> we had a fire place. it was warm. as soon as the lights went out i think the house said time for you to go and walk. out we went as well. >> reporter: others did not wait for the power outage with outdoor dining back open, they were not about to stay home again. >> dry, yes. a little chilly but not bad. it is worth it.

>> reporter: in the early evening hours tuesday as the waves crashed pg&e crews worked to make sure that faulty equipment was working properly before the storm, all with the hope that wind and rain does not cause too much damage. back out here you can see the rain coming down. the wind gusts are not hitting us right now but you never know when they are going to come up and blow in your face. that is what we have been dealing with all night long. it is in the 40s with the windchill in the 30s. very cold out here tonight. j.r. stone, abc 7 news. things are getting dangerous in the sierra where there is a blizzard warning. there are cars and trucks making the drive through the mountains. chains are required on 80 and on

>> breaking news where a suspect is dead after being shot by police following a chase. this is where it ended near davis street in vacaville. a police officer spotted a truck on the grass in front of city hall. the driver took off when officers approached. the suspect reportedly tried to ram a patrol car during the chase. >> all right. we are on storm watch right now. take a look at live doppler 7 showing you exactly where the worst of the storm is right now. you can see the heavy downpour. the yellow and the orange and the red. sandhya patel will have all that you need to know about the storm in a little bit. >> new at 11:00, 44 schools in san francisco will be renamed after hours of heated discussion. the school board voted to move forward with the name changes including just about any school named after a historical figure,

george washington and abraham lincoln high school, lowell as is diane feinstein elementary. the school board started to study the names in 2018 but didn't move forward last year as the nation had a reckoning with race and social justice. >> president biden said more vaccine is on the way and promise to buy an extra 100 million doses of both the pfizer and moderna meaning the u.s. would have enough to vaccinate nearly all-americans by the end of the summer. governors were told to expect a 16% increase in the vaccine they receive starting next week. >> a san jose hospital executive has been disciplined after allowing teachers and staff to jump the vaccine line. tonight a good samaritan hospital spokesman says disciplinary action has been taken against the hospital's

chief operating officer. meantime california is changing the way it delivers and tracks the covid-19 vaccine. governor newsom said a new secretary in charge of delivery will decide where the state's supply of vaccine should go and a recent ten-day push to get residents shots tripled the numbers to 125,000 a day. people ages 65 and older now can get vaccinated in santa clara coun county. let's turn our attention back to this really strong storm. >> it is never perfect, right, dan. we need the rain and then it all comes at once. sandhya, this is quite the storm. >> yeah. dan and ama, it is a blessing and a curse if you will. obviously we are seeing the damage. the blessing, because we need the rain. as you look at live doppler 7

the atmospheric river is here and we are getting that soaking rain across the region and the heart of the bay area as we head into the santa cruz mountains. that is why a flash flood warning still got issued the lightning complex fire going until just before 5:00 a.m. as you take a look, san francisco, brisbane, guadalupe canyon boulevard, we are seeing downpours there. in the east bay, heavy, heavy rainfall twhmpt you lo rainfall. you will notice about an inch an hour. parts of the north bay already picked up 1-2 inches and more across the region right now. temperatures right now in the 30s and the 40s. the rain is falling in san francisco. a strong level three.

tonight, tomorrow morning continue to expect drenching rain, flooding, debris flows, damaging winds. we have already seen the damage in the sierra, much-needed snow is falling at this hour. across the bay area, debris flows, flash flooding and wind damage. that will likely be the case the next few hours before the storm begins to taper towards tomorrow morning's commute. midnight the focus is the east and the south bay heading into 5:00 a.m. rain lets up and it will be windy out there. 8:00 a.m. you will notice yellow. as we head into the afternoon bands of light to moderate showers will pass through the bay area. the storm will be tracked and likely be downgraded after the morning hours to lower than level three by that point. additional rainfall, over an inch santa rosa.

snow level down to about 2,000 feet and possibly lower. blizzard warning until friday for the sierra. gusts 50 to 70 miles per hour. best to hold off on travel. it is too dangerous. don't leave home without the rain gear. we will still have wet roads and gusty winds. highs in the 40s and 50s for your wednesday. level three for tomorrow morning. showers, gusty. level two for thursday. and then you will notice spotty showers for friday, a brief break on saturday. we need that. chance of more rain between sunday afternoon evening going in to monday and tuesday. that storm is expected to be a lighter one. dan and ama. >> good.
