snow level continues to climb in the east bay hills and diablo. concord. pleasant hill, left a, alamo, danville, san ramon. strongest storm between inverness and movado. potential across the north bay for thunderstorms. while the heaviest and steadiest of the rain is over we're going to have showers and potential thunderstorms rotate across our neighborhoods, not only today but also tomorrow. the best chance of thunderstorms today. but waves of showers with downpours likely are going to continue today and tomorrow. and that is why we're a 2, moderate on the storm impact scale. a look at san jose where you can see it is definitely wet. 101 and 880. about 55 hundredths. you got rain shadowed. you received the least amount of rain. nearly 2 1/2 inches in san rafael. one of our highest tolds. the winds are gone.

this is the best best. and it is going to be chilly and when showers hit they could cause localized flooding. downpours and small hail. expect that all the way from 7:00 this morning to at least 7:00 this evening. a look at future radar comingen u. here is reggie. mike thank you, the storm's knocked out power to tens of thousands around the bay area and jobina is looking at that power outage map. >> so we do have an update from pg&e. more than 36,000 customers lost power overnight. we're going look live at their outage map from their website, so you can see all the power outages in the bay area. just about every outage is because of the weather. the north bay had more than 4200 outages, 13,000 were reported in the peninsula. the nearly 400 in san francisco. the largest have been in the east bay where more than 16,000 customers are still without

their electricity. and abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in presenten with a look at the outages there. good morning amy. >> reporter: we've got some dangling wires here. this is a neighborhood in pleasant hill. keith's circle at oak park boulevard and some power lines did come down in the storm. they have closed the street. if a car drove through here it would get tangled up in the wires. so it is not safe rear height. now but we do have an pg&e employee here waiting for a crew to come out. but they are so busy from the storm overnight, no sign of them yet. this power outage, the wires have been dangling for about three, little more than three hours. so this neighborhood's been in the dark for a while and no sign of a crew at this point. we will keep you posted. but this is just one of many power outages that pg&e is dealing with right now.

live in present hill, amy hollyfield. more than 5,000 people in the santa cruz mountains were ordered to evacuate ahead of this storm. and here is a look at the evacuation map. the areas highlighted in red are mandatory. and they stretch across both santa cruz and san mateo counties. abc7 news reporter is in scotts valley at one o those evacuation centers. what doesed look like right now . >> one of three centers set up. the good news they have power and the rain has stopped. because of covid-19 this is not set up as a shelter. those who show up are given health screening. if they clear that, the red cross sends them to a hotel. threat of flooding and potential deadly mud slides 26. deputies have been going door to door since monday trying to get

residents to evacuate but unfortunately they expect only about 25% of people to comply with the order. so here is advice for those who choose to stay home. >> grab your family and literally run uphill. that is the best thing we can tell you to do. if you didn't do that. go upstairs. if you don't van upstairs, get on the roof. if you can't do, that get on top of a table. >> cal fire has been tweeting this morning. they had to sign a waiver when the sheriffs office knocked on the door to issue the evacuation. >> not issues that my house is going to get torn away. i believe i'm most anxious about is just that the roads will get blocked. >> it is a wonderful place to live. we love it here and it is just there are natural hazards that you have to prepare for. >> the czu fires forced them from their home more than a month. they believe the safest choice is to stay put knowing their home is not near any dangerous hills. and new video from bolder creek in santa cruz county overnight. along highway 9 near highway 236. water over the sidewalks and the heavy rain. >> in friction the downpours already causing issues if are the morning community. san francisco. currently flooding. cars making their way through at least a few inches of water and some driving a bit slower than

others. this winter storm has caused a lot of people trouble for santa rosa restaurants. strong winds ripped this tent from its moorings. and as the staff was trying to secure that one, another huge tent started flying through the air across the street. and down the street from that, it took on loads of water. the owner says despite the storm they are still looking forward to reopening. >> i think we're just excited for a new start, a new beginning. and trying to find get more people downtown not just with this business by others. >> reporter: firefighters also went door to door in neighborhoods from burn scars rom last year's glass fire.rs there is a threat of mud slooids. home owners are asked to be vigilant and have a plan to evacuate if needed. things are getting dangerous in the sierra, where there is a blizzard warning.

even there winds are starting to back off. but it is a little bit of a cross-wind down 80 eitherway. we still have the potential, the atmospheric river will push back farther to the north after saying well to our south most of today and when it does that tomorrow it cowl still keep flooding oppositions in the forecast for the santa cruz mountains and diablo. those burn scars, we're really worried about the most. you can see how scattered everything is over those two areas. not much yellow. no more red anywhere around us. in fact let's take a look and head up north and this is where we're going to have the best snow up in lake and mend see know counties. you are going to be the most immune from that rising snow level out of the southerly so we've got a winter storm warning for you. about 3-6 inches more.

we head through the morning commute. up until lunch there is green and there is yellow. that is the heavier downpour in it. and as we head into the evening commute, wave upon wave. it is going to be a very damp and cool day. it is going to be very humid by our standards thanks to seize southerly winds and that is going to keep us in the rain through tomorrow evening and by friday morning we'll get a little bit of a break. first how much rain to expect. santa cruz mountains and marin county are going to receive the most. up to three quarters of an inch. the rest of us from rain shaded areas in the south bay to a couple of hundredths to a tenth o or quarter of an inch. a 2 today and tomorrow. 1 early friday and then increasing sunshine in the afternoon. slight chance of rain saturday. should be dry most of the daylight hours sunday and more gradual steadier rain monday and tuesday. president biden saids more vaccine is on the way. the administration is now

building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. this is abc7 news. now at 5:30, live doppler 7 lit up in green. meteorologist mike nicco is still tracking wet and wintdy weather this morning. >> and storm damage. a family was in this home when a large tree crashed? >> the storm didn't keep everyone couped up inside. we're going talk to the people who decided to brave the elements. it's wet this morning. >> it definitely is. let's check with mike. >> good morning. everybody, thanks for joining us. good news the worst of the storm is behind us. i've downgraded us to a 2. here is what to expect moving forward. today and tomorrow, waves and showers with downpours likely. our best chance of lightning or thunderstorms is going to be up in the north bay and that we're going to keep in today's forecast, not tomorrow's forecast. you can definitely see the atmospheric rivers to our south and this is where it is going to stall today. we will have waves of showers. you can see one moving through

the north bay right now. this was a moderate shower when it moved over 101. now it is light to moderate as it moves across sonoma, napa there could be some localized ponding. san rafael our strongest movement. and you can see scattered showers in the tri-valley. and as we head to the south bay it is looking a little more clear in the santa clara valley where most of the showers are in the highers elevation on either side of you. in fact here is a look at 101 and 880 where we've had 0.55 inches of rain so far. for today the breezes just about over. in fact the wind advisory, high wind warning gone, except for solano county and you can see temperatures hang out in the low- to mid-50s. chilly, humid kind of damp day. and you will have several chances of showers today and tomorrow. talk more about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast.

around the airport. we'll check to see if any flights have been affected. in the north bay a large tree crashed into a mobile home. a family was inside at the time. no one was seriously hurt. 10s of thousands are waking up this morning in the dark across the bay area. pg&e's out edge website lit up right now and pretty big clusters without power in the east bay and south bay. amy hollyfield is live in pleasant hill. >> reporter: we've got a power outage here. wires on the ground. they are also dangling from up above mid way in the block. this street, keith's circle, is closed. they don't want any cars driving through getting tangled up in the wires. oak park boulevard and keith's circle in pleasant hill. this power outage is going on probably about four hours now and still no crew here to address it.

because pg&e is very busy this morning. last i'm hearing they might be out here in the next half are hour. they might be here around 6:00. that is the estimate. but they have got a long list of power outages to get to this morning. very busy morning because of the storm so this neighborhood is on hold for now and in the dark. and it appears everyone is sleeping pretty late. those alarm clocks are not going off. we haven't seen any dog walkers or any exercisers out this morning some of this neighborhood looking like it is getting a late start to the morning and that might be the kras across the bay area today. live in present hill, amy hollyfield abc7 news. on the bay bridge lower

deck, and chp says there was a small fuel leak. on the peninsula despite the stormy conditions people were still taking to the streets wanting to do outdoor dining. they lost power a brief period tuesday night and so they decided to head outside and brave the elements. and they weren't the only ones. >> -- a fireplace, and it was warm. and as soon as the lights went out, i think the house said time for you to go walk. so the power went. so. >> it was a little chilly. but not bad. it's worth it. >> locked up all that time it is good to be out. >> in the meantime as the waves crashed in pacifica in the early evening hours tooz, pg&e crew nsz daley city worked to make sure faulty equipment was working throughout the storm. -- closed today because of the extreme

these parks are expected to reopen friday at 8:00 a.m. and you can access live doppler 7 on demand on your tv. >> likelihood of power outages dropping dramatically. 21 miles per hour wind gusts at living room. the rest of us below 20 miles per hour. and that is going to be the case the rest of today and even higher elevations. only seeing about 31 in saint helena. 29 at diablo. the winds have pulled back considerably. they are coming out of south like we talked about. snow level is pretty high. 34 on mount hamilton about 4200 feet. 36 on mount diablo this is about 38, 49 and up in the north bay a

little lower. firks the focus on the winds. mainly solano until about 8:00 today. you are the only ones dealing with that type of watch or warning. still the flash flood watch but the north bay is taken out. so the burn scar up there we're doing okay. but there is the possibility in the santa cruz mountains and east bay hills and diablo range, those burn scars could still see some flooding from now all the way to 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. the reason why, you can see right now everything is pretty good. light showers, just green showing up but the atmospheric river is going slide to the south, stall several hours and then slowly bump its way back north and the northern tip of that atmospheric river could drift into the santa cruz mountains and the diablo range and bring more rain and that is why the flash flood watch continues. the snow i was talk about. mainly in the lake county and we've still got another 3-6, maybe 5 inches to go. above 1500 feet. we've got a winter storm warning

just about 30 minutes ago we saw that -- okay, so you can barely make it out. they have zoomed out the camera but you can see the flashing lights there on the upper deck of the ramp. they are moving, in the process of moving this big rig out of the way. hopefully it will clear up in the next few minutes. and the richmond san rafael bridge. chp issued a high wind advisory for the area. you can see how slick the roadway is theres at a high wind issued for the du

through tomorrow afternoon t showers start to taper but they are still out there and as we head towards thursday night into friday morning, that is when we'll start to get a break from this system that will continue to rain shadow the south bay. a quarter to half inch around the bay and marin county and mountains of the santa cruz, most likely another half inch to an inch. a 2 today, 2 tomorrow, 1 1 and steader rain coming monday and tuesday. developing news in vaccineville. a suspect dead after being shot by police after a chase. this is where it ended along interstate 80 off the ramp near davis street. the chase started around 8:30 last night and that is when a police officer says they spot ad truck on the grass in front of city hall. police say the driver took off when officers approached. and the suspect reportedly tried to ram one of the patrol cars during the chase. 44 schools in san francisco are going change their names

after hours of heated discussion last night. the school board voted to move forward with these name changes and the list includes just about any school named after a person. among them george washington and abraham lincoln high schools also included lowell and dianne feinstein elementary. the school board started studying the names in 2018 but just started moving forward with the plan last year. and uc berkeley is going to change the name of one of their halls. it was kroger hall. it will be the fourth building at uc berkeley to be unnamed the last year. the university provided this video. so the former kroger hall will temporarily be known as the anthropology and art practice building. a new report from centers for disease control finds new evidence that covid-19 will not spread in schools with proper

it is wednesday, january 27th. we want to start with our forecast and checking in with mike nicco. >> kumasi, reggie, hi, everybody. good news, i downgraded the storm from the 3 strong to 2 moderate. waves of showers today and tomorrow, with localized downpours that will cause some localized flooding. and there is a slight chance of some thunderstorms, especially across the north bay today. here is a look at what was once a thunderstorm, but now it is just a rain shower in the napa valley and heading to 80 and solano county, through vallejo, across the bridges, and all the way down too you see the richmond san rafael, golden gate and bay bridge about to get rainy again, this stretches down to brisbane. scattered showers in the east bay right now. the south bay starting to clear out a little bit, except for the santa cruz mountains, scattered light showers continue. flood warnings earlier this morning, but not right now, still under a flood watch. this high will hang around the next couple of days, that's why we have damp conditions, with chilly air in the 50s and
