there was still concern as new covid variants were found in the bay area. restaurant owners are trying to find making ends meet and keeping everyone safe. doctors say there is a way to do it. louis penna was in the marine district and welcomes back commerce. >> reporter: after nearly two months, this is what this group of friends has been waiting for. >> as we get tested, we're very on top of everything. it's just knowing your bubble and being strong and supporting everybody. >> reporter: as more plates of food out of restaurant's kitchen, the owner is still hopeful for their future. a week ago, they were not too sure they were going to survive. >> i don't think it's one time we need to close, we're done. >> reporter: seeing groups of people eating together is also concerning for some san francisco residents who say more

safety guidelines should be in place. >> in many cases, there were six people together. none of them are wearing masks. >> reporter: at least at this restaurant, they are seeing vigilance. >> on the one hand, that excitement is what's keeping many of the these restaurants alive. in the other, infectious disease doctors tell me their pre-covid-19 variant is circulating the bay area. >> i think at least the big british variant, the one that seems to spread for easily is susceptible to the vaccine. >> reporter: dr. reutherford is optimistic. he is helping the san francisco department of public health with a case study on covid-19 and outdoor dining. what are you hoping to find with this do you that that you are collecting? >> in real tomb to go back and look at say let's figure out where the last 100 people got infected. that would be pretty helpful and you know what you have to

ravenwood hopes to have more vaccination clinics in the future. abc 7 news there so we do have some new details on a la fayette vaccine clinic that will be shut down after complaints of vaccine misuse. the pop-up clinic seen here january 16th vaccinated more than 600 people. they received a complaint alleging that vaccinations were given to miami who shouldn't have received them. they told the chronicle that the doctor who volunteered at the clinic filed a complaint. parish added she expects to be clear of any wrong-doing. we are tracking california's progress on our website. you can, too. see where distribution stands and where you mate be eligible to get the shot all on abc7news.com. starting tomorrow, a new cdc order will require all passengers and transit workers nationwide to wear a mask. not only in trains, planes and

buses but in term fals as well. reporter matt boone explains much of the support came from bus drivers who say their industry has been hit hard. >> i have been complaining from the get-go this should have been mandated from the federal government. >> reporter: john costa runs the amalgamated transit union, representing transit workers across the country. he says they've had at least 15 members die from covid-19 in california. >> from the bay area alone i believe it was six members. >> reporter: here in san francisco, wearing a mask is requiring them to get a fare. they have simple info graphics making it as clear as possible but compliance is not always there. >> i don't think that anyone should feel like they're above anyone or have a god complex and think they shouldn't wear a mask v. she takes bart several days a week for work around says she still sees people without masks.

sequoias fell in the growth. they believe none are named sequoia. there is no time line when it will open but they say the rot, resistant trees could be lined in the park for centuries. meteorologist lisa arjen has been tracking our forecast. sort of a mixed bag for this sunday. >> good morning. we are looking at cloud, certainly showers out there. live doppler 7 picking up on the activity. we saw sprinkles from marin county down into san francisco. but the main event will arrive mid-day tomorrow. it's the system here that will bring a level 1 system. but as for this morning with all the cloud cover, it is mild out there. how about those low 50s, in hayward, 52 in fremont. 55 in oakland this morning. the mid and upper 40s in the north bay. sprinkles, a light shower.

then we will get into a dry day for sunshine. not as cold, partly cloudy and warmer. 60s arriving. compliments of southerly winds and more widespread rain coming in tomorrow. here's the system, it will bring scattered showers and breezy south wind. 20-to-30-mile-an-hour winds. could gust to about 40. we're not expecting problems with this system. beneficial rain on the way. as we look for our time frame. notice we're dry we're into monday. here is the front, we are seeing sprinkles. by mid-afternoon into the later evening hours. the front pushes to the south and the east. we have light to moderate rain. not quite yet into the south bay. but it continues to be aggressive and mof to the south by overnight. by tuesday, pretty much behind us. this will be a snow maker for

the northern. the central sierra again. in terms of rainfall, scaling back a little bit. anywhere from a half inch to an inch up in the north bay. so we're looking at oakland at .6 or a quarter of an inch in redwood estimate we have a winter storm watch. one-to-two feet. snow levels a little heighth higher with this system at 6,000 feet. we will look at a good amount around kirkwood 14 inches. tahoe city about eight inches. it's nice we got the break and this system arriving tomorrow. 63 today, partly cloudy skies in oakland. low-to-mid-60s. it will feel mild, humid at times, a possible shower. the accuweather 7-day forecast, upper 50 to mid-60s. later evening rain for our level

elementary. because in 1984, they replaced a confederate flag at city hall after a protestor took it down several times. that protestor now lives in south carolina. abc 7 news reporter asked him to weigh in on the controversial move by the school board. >> reporter: richard bradley never thought these block and white pictures would resurface 37 years later. it shows him climbing a flag pole with the end result of taking down the confederate flag. full disclosure. it was one of 18 flags in front of city hall used to symbolize the different stages of american history. after bradley took the flag down, then mayor diane feinstein ordered it be flown again. she eventually changed her mind. because of what he did at least one school board member is hinting a school be named after him. who is richard bradley i asked on tv?

school to be renamed the elite lowell high school. back in okay, the board voted in favor of a lottery system. according to chronicle four members apparently switched to the lottery citing racist incidents at the school. the board will discuss the proposal on tuesday with a vote expected next week. in the east bay coliseum college president-elect bush in oakland will be getting help in the athletics department. the former nba star's foundation announced 23 high schools that will be getting the game-ready grant. it will pay for ppe, uniforms, transportation costs and sports gear shaq teamed up with icy hot after witnessing the make and got funding from teams that were unable play for safety reasons. he says high school is where you

we have a few showers overnight. this morning, it is certainly mild out there. 55 in oakland. 50 on the coast. 45 in papua. as we look at the higher elevation winds, 20 to 25 miles per hour. that's bringing in a milder start to your sunday. so we are 4-to-7 degrees warmer all across the bay area. that will translate into a warmer afternoon. the cloud cover by noon and by 2:00, it's filtered sun in the south bay and eat bay. we got mid-60s. we will be dry. this front pushes to the north. as we get into late tonight, we are setting our sights on a level 1 system. i'll track it for you in the next few minutes for your monday. kate. >> thanks, so much, lisa. the push to get as many americans vaccinated as quickly as possible is growing more urgent as the variant is described in 30 states, including california.

>> the site was temporarily shut down. social media shows people carrying 69 i signs saying scamdemic. governor gavin newsom tweeted saying we will not be deterred or threatened. it's back up and running. the entrance was reopened after about an hour. the l.a. mayor says despite the interruption, no appointmented were cancelled. examiners say a man that died hours after getting the vaccine died already. the 64-year-old man had been recently diagnosed with covid-19. investigators say he had underlying health issues and showed symptoms of the illness the day of his appointment.
