all right, good morning, everybody. it is tuesday, february 2nd, we want to get straight to mike for a look at our forecast. good morning, mike. >> good morning, kumasi, joe dee jobina, reggie, hi, everybody. you look at the loop of the last two hours of the rain that kins to move southwest to northeast. even up to the north bay, light rain, even though the radar is not as full there as it is in other areas. so let's look at what's going on. you see on the peninsula, whether you're on one, around half moon bay, heading toward pacifica or 280 from pacifica and daly city to san francisco, we have light rain there, we have light rain in castro valley and hayward through 580, getting on to 880 or possibly heading down to the dumbarton bridge. and also plenty of wet weather across the south bay. here is a look at oaklandoakland, .081, dry, but temperatures cool, in the low to mid-50s.

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live with why they say they're not being made a priority. amy? >> reporter: officers here started looking around and realizing they were being treated differently than officers in other counties. in marin and in contra costa, they did offer the vaccine to their law enforcement first responders there. but in alameda county, officers say they have not been vaccinated. and that includes sheriff deputies and oakland police officers. oakland firefighters have been vaccinated, but not police. which officers say is a risk not only to police, but also to the public. >> officers every weekend go to probably 30, 40 calls a shift, and in that time they're exposing the citizens to whatever their carrying if they're asymptomatic and they're being exposed simultaneously. >> the excuse we don't provide medical care, it is for medical responders only first, i would argue we do just as much,

sometimes more medical response than our firefighter counterparts. oakland police say more than five dozen of their officers have been infected by the virus since the pandemic began. one sheriff deputy died from covid. county supervisors say it is an issue of vaccine supply, saying they don't even have enough doses yet to vaccinate all the front line healthcare givers who are taking care of covid patients. live in alameda, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. san francisco just opened its first covid-19 vaccination hub in the mission district. latinos are experiencing the highest number of cases state wide. officials say the plan is to vaccinate 120 people a day at the start. >> our latino population, which represents about 15% of san francisco has been hardest hit. of the over 30,000 cases, they have been about 42% of those cases. >> vaccinations are by

appointment only and will go to community health workers and people over 65 years old. local activists say this opening is amazing for this community, which has a positivity rate of 14%. a covid-19 vaccine clinic at good samaritan hospital in san jose will remain closed for now. last month the hospital admitted to vaccinating teachers who are not eligible. santa clara county took immediate action announcing it would withhold more doses from the hospital and now our news partner the mercury news reports good samaritan is revealing it has appointed new oversight for the clinic, and canceled appointments for anyone who is not currently eligible. the county will allow the hospital to administer second doses to people who already received their first dose. there will be more talks today to try to get a bipartisan agreement to help millions of americans struggling through the pandemic. president biden met with republicans late last night, but they made no deal. jobina is at the live desk now with why neither side appears ready to abandon their plans.

jobina? >> thank you, reggie. only real agreement that came out of this nearly two-hour meeting between president biden and gop lawmakers is they need to continue the conversation on a relief package. ten gop senators proposed a cut down version. >> 1.9 trillion out of the sky what we did is go line by line and figure out how to meet the challenges that the public was facing. >> we talked about differences and i don't think he would intend to signal any changes on his part. nor would we. >> the president's proposal calls for $1400 payments to most americans. republicans want to limit the checks to $1,000 and send them to only lower income americans, both sides are calling for $160 billion for vaccines, testing and also small businesses. reggie? >> jobina, thank you. new this morning, president

biden creating a task force to reunite families separated at the border. the white house says it is part of three executive orders aimed at rolling back trump immigration policies. the task force will manage family reunifications and make different immigration plans for each individual family. happening today, former san diego mayor kevin faulconer will officially announce he's running for governor. he says he will run if a recall effort reaches the ballot this year. if it doesn't, he will run next year. when governor newsom would be up for re-election. those backing the recall have to submit 1.5 million verified signatures by the middle of next month. governor newsom's opponent in 2018, john cox, has also expressed interest in running. coming up, the iconic bar in san francisco that could become a historic landmark if one measure passes today. and punxsutawney phil comes out of his borough as part of a decades long tradition. the groundhog forecasting when spring will come.

advisory for the bay bridge. want to move over to live look showing you oakland, our 880 at the coliseum camera there. we watched the rain come down in the east bay this morning for our commuters traveling along 880 and oakland, 680 through walnut creek. just a heads up to you it is going to be slick. as we bring in the map here, i want to point out roadway flooding in san rafael, the chp says northbound 101 past central san rafael, you're going to experience flooding across all lanes and then also we just have a number of spinouts, i'm pointing out one in belmont now on southbound 101 before ralston avenue. happening today, san francisco leaders will vote to move toward giving landmark status to the city's historic sf eagle bar. the bar is widely considered as one of the monuments of the lgbtq scene, operating at the same spot in the district since 1981. if county supervisors pass today's resolution, the preservation commission would get 90 days to decide on landmark status before going

those who knew him are calling it a tragic end to a brilliant career. friends and family grieving over the death of world refound in private investigator from san francisco jack palladino. palladino worked some of the biggest cases in the state through the decades, and his client list includes bill clinton, michael jackson, and other hollywood celebrities. palladino died yesterday after being attacked by two men in front of his haight a-ashbury he last week.

now. in fact, here is a look at about what half an inch did to the western span of the bay bridge. and you can see it is definitely damp there this morning. showers today and tomorrow, two separate storms both 1 on our storm impact scale. colder nights, 30s and 40s and fog coming back. dry pattern with warm sunshine starts thursday and it peaks this weekend. we're at 51 to 55 degrees across san francisco. light rain. and that's pretty indicative of all of our temperatures as we're almost close to our average highs this morning. we'll hit 57 to about 62 this afternoon with much less rain than this morning. and tonight when the clouds open up expect the fog to form and temperatures falling into the mid and upper 30s in our deepest valleys, low to mid-40s around the bay and to the coast. tomorrow's storm is a 1 also, but the showers are going to have less water in them and going to move much faster. so expect even less water than today. let's time it out. as we head to the morning commute, the light showers move into the north bay. after 9:00, they'll move into the rest of the bay, but the south bay up until lunch and as

we head into the afternoon and early evening hours, it is a south bay and east bay that will have the rain and then it is over by the time we get to midnight. rainfall amounts will be up to a tenth of an inch. that's it. my accuweather seven-day forecast, coolest tomorrow, low to mid-50s. possibly upper 60s saturday and sunday for our warmest temperatures. doesn't that sound great, compared to what ginger is dealing with? >> i know. let's check in with ginger. so much snow in manhattan yesterday. more snow again today, ginger. >> yes, we're not done. if you can believe it or not, that is a vehicle under there. asking for a friend, should i be cleaning this off or use this as a prop? we'll talk about that in a bit. we had more than 17 inches of snow already. i think we could easily get another inch when the wrap around bands come up. that would put us in the top ten snowfalls of all time here in new york city's recorded history. pretty incredible. this was nothing compared to what happened to our northwest.

parts of new jersey and pennsylvania ended up with more than 30 inches of snow. and they're not done either. this thing will take its time moving through today, we'll be gone it tomorrow and then will deal with the storm you all have now as that moves across the country. so i'll be tracking all of that. and really, it is about the implications to the covid vaccine sites. they're closed again today in a lot of places in new jersey, new york too. this is way beyond a big snowstorm for us. and then you talk about the impacts when it comes to the super bowl, right? we have another super bowl storm to come, but the super bowl itself has issues because two of the kansas city players have now been put on the quarantine list because they were exposed to people with covid. so we'll talk more about that and, of course, the halftime show, the weekend, got big plans, i don't know what plans, because i didn't hear it in the program, but you're going to hear it in a little bit on "gma." i think i'm to the point of nearly not thinking because of the cold, so --

today? >> i want to be that guy. that looked like fun. >> me too. >> kumasi, reggie, yeah, how about that? we're starting off a little wet. we'll jump right into live doppler 7, thanks for joining us this morning. and you can see on the peninsula, especially near the coast, we have some of the stronger radar returns so get ready peninsula and within the next 15, 20 minutes you're about to get another wave of showers and you can see waves of showers across the east bay, stretching into the south bay and up into the north bay. so this storm is still holding on. it is going to be a 1 with light showers through the early afternoon hours. and then it will taper by the evening commute. another tenth to possibly a quarter of an inch in our higher elevations, especially the santa cruz mountains possible. so far the third of an inch as you look at walnut creek, south on 680 towards 24. it is mild this morning, temperatures in the 50s, we won't warm much into the mid and upper 50s with more sunshine this afternoon. cold night on the way, and more rain tomorrow before a warm weekend. i'll have that coming up. here's kumasi. >> thank you, mike.

we have breaking news we're just getting in. our abc sister station in miami is reporting that two fbi agents have been shot while serving a search warrant in sunrise, florida. for a perspective, that's about 20 minutes outside of ft. lauderdale and south florida. information is extremely limited right now, but local reports say the agents were shot by a suspect who then barricaded themselves inside of a home. we are waiting for the details on the injuries and the cause of the search and we will let you know as soon as we learn more. the city of alameda would like to open elementary schools and everyone including the teachers and the union, they seem to be generally on board. the one big problem covid testing. part of our effort to build a better bay area includes focusing on education and amy hollyfield is live at edison elementary school. amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning. yes, the school district here says the key to reopening schools like this one will be covid testing and that's why they're going to start testing

faculty and teachers starting tomorrow. the goal here in alameda is to get elementary schools, tk through 5th grade open in five weeks on march 8th. the district signed contracts with labs and plan to do the testing on empty middle and high school campuses. administrators say this is quite an undertaking, but that it must be done for the kids. >> the notion that we will go on having young children and children with special needs staring at tablets and computers for hours and hours a day, we are all kidding ourselves if we think that say productive way to educate children. >> reporter: the teachers union in alameda is close to reaching an agreement with the district to head back into the classroom saying the district has worked hard to try and make this happen. is is for elementary schools, no word yet on when they're aiming to get the middle and high schools open again. live in alameda, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

thank you. today two more bay area cities will consider proposals to add hazard pay for workers at large grocery stores. the oakland and san jose city councils will consider paying employees an additional $5 an hour. th in san jose it would apply to those who have 300 hour more workers. the if passed in san jose, it would go into effect he immediately. in an email from case kai e greg adams, he says it comes down to supply. they only received 300,000 doses. and that averages to about 43,000 doses a week. if that rate continues, it means that it would take roughly 216 weeks or just over four years to have enough of the first dose for all of kaiser's california patients. vaccine production is ramping up and more should be available soon. >> i think the challenge for all of us will be we just need to

porter's office. the two barricaded the doors until it was safe to come out. this all comes as investigators recommend the officer who shot and killed rioter ashli babbit should not be charged. the justice department could make a final decision about possible charges in the coming days. reggie? >> thank you. new details on the covid-19 outbreak at san quentin. a state prison oversight group is calling it a, quote, public health disaster. the office of the inspector general released a report saying safeguards when transferring potentially covid positive inmates to san quentin. that office released this animation showing how quickly the virus spread at the prison, between june and august. 28 people died, and more than 2,000 contracted covid at san quentin. today kicks off the start of a global contest to close the digital divide for students in california. california state superintendent tony thurman will announce the details later this morning. the state says nearly one in five students till cannot join

was known for a long film career and his portrayal of mark twain on stage. he played deep throat in the watergate film "all the president's men". he was nominated for an oscar for his role in the 2007 film "into the wild." this morning we're hearing from a good friend of "saved by the bell" stardusten diamond. he died yesterday three weeks after being diagnosed with stage four cancer. diamond was best known for playing samuel screech powers on the popular 1990s sitcom. he was the youngest in the cast. he played screech for 12 years. dan block, one of his close friends, says diamond discovered a small lump on his neck last year which continued to grow but he delayed going to the doctor out of fear. >> he just didn't like the public ridicule. he wanted to be a normal guy. he put it off because he wanted to live his life and didn't want to have the public scrutiny. >> diamond's rep says he was high spirited and his greatest passion was making other people laugh. he was only 44.

police are asking for help in an armed home invasion. it was caught on camera in oakland. the video shows two people approaching a man at a home in the fruitvale central part of the city last friday. the suspects as you can see here holding semi-automatic handguns, forced the man into a home. thankfully no one was hurt. first hit by the pandemic closures, then ravaged by the devastating czu lightning complex fire, a beloved camp for people with disabilities is having to recover from yet another heart break. this was entirely preventable. camp crem in boulder creek was robbed and vandalized last week. police are looking for the thieves who stole the gas and parts, and they stole a generator worth more than $10,000. the camp served countless adults and children with intellectual

disabilities. they're still rebuilding from the wildfire. >> the fire was a natural disaster. we couldn't blame anybody. the robbery was very different. they just saw money in their pocket and a chance to kick us around. and that's hard to swallow. >> camp crem says they can take all the help they can get. today, a controversial proposal involving the late lowell high school is up for discussion. the san francisco board of education meeting, four members are reportedly in favor of permanently switching its admission policy it a lottery system. the chronicle for support over the weekend. they voted for the lottery system for the next school year, but now a new proposal would permanently end the school's selective admissions process. today's meeting will allow for more time for public comment on that issue. now to your morning money report, one big winner of the gamestop craze is menlo park-based robinhood. but it comes with heavy controversy surrounding their

tactics. in the days since temporarily halting any new purchases of gamest gamestop, the wall street journal reports it raised nearly $3.5 billion. shareholders pumped the funding to robinhood to help ride its new found surge in demand. but robinhood is facing sharp criticism for choosing to limit trading on gamestop, a move counter to its mission statement of investing for the average trader. now a live look at the new york stock exchange, trading gets under way this morning. we're up now about 350 points. we know the pandemic has impacted so many industries, but now analysis of new reports show the bay area lost well over 100,000 hotel and restaurant jobs last year. that's down 33% from 2019, according to beacon economics. hotel operators say that it will take up to five years for things to get back to, quote, normal for them. but experts believe that restaurants have a brighter

future, as demand will be up for residents and tourists who want to eat out. today, contra costa county may cap the amount of fees that food delivery companies can charge restaurants who are fighting to survive the pandemic. they'll be limited to a 15% charge. restaurants had to lean on delivery services during the pandemic, but lose a large profit by doing so. santa clara county approved the same cap in december, if this is approved, contra costa's limit would take effect immediately and expire whenever indoor dining is aloud back at 100% capacity. all right, so i'm glad we're getting back to this. this may be the canadian version of mary poppeins. this man figured out how to travel by umbrella on this lake in british columbia. devin jensen got the idea while playing hockey with his friends, noticing how easily they could glide on the ice.
