only. back here in the city the mayor says she is really looking forward to the day when we can all take our masks off, hold them up in the air and wave them like we just don't care. she said this will be a great step toward getting us there. thank you, amy. i can't wait for that either. johnson and johnson has applied for emergency use authorization of their single dose covid-19 vaccine. the fda will review data from the trial, and vote in three weeks. if authorization is granted shots could start as soon march first. there are two benefits, it only requires one shot and it can be stored in regular refrigerators. the race to vaccinate is also a race against the past spreading variants san mateo

based helix is doing covid testing and they identified 105 cases of the variant so far, most in southern california. out of the six cases in alameda county found week two your uc berkeley students. you could see more cases in the last few weeks. >> we saw a doubling in southern california. we don't see as much in the bay area yet, but i think giveen the amount of traffic in the two regions we expect it is just a matter of time. >> officials urge people to remain vigilant on wearing your masks. >> according to the chronicle, the county started dipping into doses for those that already had their first shot to make sure that everybody is able to get

month after the false and baseless claims. more than 180 rioters now charged. an abc news investigation showing that 19 have ties to extremist groups and a dozen support qanon conspiracy theories. >> 23 of those arrested in the capital insurrection so far are still serving their military duty. former president donald trump does not want to testify under oath in his upcoming impeachment trial. he rejected a question from house democrats. they want trump to respond to him inciting a mob. house democrats are not requiring trump to appear at the trial, but they warn refusing to testify could be used to support their arguments for a conviction. trump's second impeachment trial begins on tuesday.

we're learning new details about a crash that killed a 26-year-old husband and father in san francisco. a total of eight cars collided yesterday morning. we have more on the victim and the man arrested in this crash. >> this is a young man that leaves behind a wife and 3-year-old son after the driver of this suv ran a red light and he was hit in the process. killing him and leading to an eight-car accident near san francisco state university. >> i saw about four or five cars, and they were badly crashed. there was a truck in the me of t s w badlyasd.hi video showing the system, jerry lions, who now faces multiple charges including vehicular

cop. the city's choice to be the next police chief is this man, leron trong. he is currently the deputy chief of police and a long-time veteran. he joined the force in 1999. before that he spent four years with the alameda county probation department. he is a native of west oakland and a graduate of mcclymonds high school. he replaces ann kirkpatrick who was ousted last year. this class has been training for 12 months. the longest running class that the department has ever held because of the covid-19 shut downs. the department tells us it is a very diverse group of cadets that will be sworn in. 13 speak more than one language and eight languages among everyone. if you're dreaming of a

and it is opening today. seniors can get the shot here. this is open to alameda county residents over the age of 75.75. they need more doses to come in from the state. >> it is a race against time. we really need to accelerate the number of people vaccinated. >> that is the issue in san francisco as well. there is an urgency, but not enough doses yet. they are opening a site today and they can hand handle up to 10,000 people per day but they don't have any doses yet. next week they will do about 3,000 to 4,000 per day until supplies run low. this one will take people that are 65 and older or health care workers. it is by appointment only.
