smackdown. we've got some serious super bowl fun still ahead this morning. but first, let's take a look at our top story this morning and the question of whether americans will receive more stimulus checks anytime soon. president biden calling on congress to take action now saying struggling families can't wait for lengthy bipartisan negotiations. >> the nearly $2 trillion pushback from republicans. the president saying he's willing to cut the number of americans who will qualify to receive aid, but he's not budging on the check amounts. the president also making news about whether his predecessor, donald trump, should continue to receive intelligence briefings. let's go back to abc's alex presha in washington with more. alex, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, whit. so keep in mind the timing of these comments. president biden's statements on intelligence briefings coming just days ahead of the start of his predecessor's second impeachment trial. overnight president biden taking aim at former president trump days before his impeachment trial is set to begin. in an interview with cbs biden saying he doesn't think his

predecessor should receive intelligence briefings because of, quote, erratic behavior. >> what value is giving him an intelligence briefing? what impact does he have at all other than the fact he might slip and say something? >> reporter: this as the clock is ticking on capitol hill as congress works to help millions of americans amid a faltering economy and devastating pandemic. >> so, i'm going to act. i'm going to act fast. >> reporter: president biden callinlling for swift action on his nearly $2 trillion plan with or without republican support. >> i'm going to help the american people who are hurting now. >> reporter: at the core of the package, $160 billion for vaccinations and testing. and help for small businesses. as well as a 1400 direct payment to many americans. the house now pushing forward with biden's plan after senate approval and the way the bill is framed they don't need any gop votes. >> they're not interested in doing the hard work it takes to build consensus.

multicar accident near the chiefs tg facilin ay and ur with the chiefs will not be making the trip to the super bowl today with the team ahead of tomorrow's big game and is reportedly going to be in the hospital for days. details are scarce. but kansas city police say that two children were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old. the 5-year-old has life-threatening injuries. impairment is under investigation according to kansas city police. but charges have not yet been filed. the kansas city chiefs say that they are aware of the incident writing in a statement in part, quote, we are in the process of gathering information. our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. guys. >> will reeve for us there, thank you so much. coming up after welcoming a baby girl in september, gigi hadid is getting candid about motherhood in "vogue."

for having me. look, many people are experiencing depression and anxiety so here's what you can do obviously just short of talking to your doctor directly. start with a mindful moment. this is my sort of spin on mindfulness. this is a larger practice that really helps people cope with stress. they overall have lower levels of anxiety and you can do this with starting with a mindful shower or eating a piece of fruit like an orange, something fragrant that helps to bring as many of your senses into the moment and practice something called mindfulness, 30 seconds to five minutes. change your environment. look, if you have been spending most of your time working from your home office, you're stuck in a rut, switch your office to another space, right. move your desk to a completely different area of the home and see if that can help get things moving. finally, take five minutes to get in touch with a friend. isolation can also cause depression and anxiety so you want to do what you can to stay connected. >> one of the things we know from the research is that relationships are incredibly important for human psychology. i've heard one doctor say that the quality of your relationships determines the

quality of your life. we have a couple of questions now from some of your followers. the first is from leah in atlanta, here it is. >> i'm currently a full-time grad student doing most of my work from home virtually. what are some small practices i can do to help recenter and refocus myself so that i don't feel fatigued or burned out being online all day? >> a great question. dr. jess, what say you? >> it is a great question. i get this a lot in offices where people are like, i can't focus on netflix when i'm trying to watch a good show. start by, you know, overall reducing your screen time. in between classes make sure you are getting up, stretching, walking away from your computer. it's going to be important to do that. also, look around your space. is there an area you can create a relaxing environment. put a few floor cushions down on the ground and there you have a reading nook. or maybe you put a yoga mat down and you can practice meditation and yoga. finally, take a few minutes to be intentional about what you are going to watch so that you

are investing your time in other things outside of watching television again. pick up a book and read but be intentional about how you're investing your time. >> nicole in chicago has a question too. here's that one. >> what are a few coping mechanisms to combat severe insomnia? >> that's very common right now. what do you say about that, dr. jess? >> absolutely. it is, dan. people who experience insomnia often are under a lot of stress. i think one of the most important things you can do is pay attention to your bedroom. right. make sure it is dark, remove that television or make sure at the very least you're not spending time watching tv in bed. make sure at night your room is nice and cool so you can make that environment as conducive for sleep as possible. also it's going to be very important to set up a quick routine. it can be a five-minute calming nightly routine you do to begin to associate nighttime with sleeping. so it can be something as simple as taking a soothing shower. maybe using essential oils in a
