now from abc 7, live breaking news. right away breaking news out of san francisco tonight. an amber alert has just been issued for two small children. they were in a car that their father says was stolen while he was making a doordash delivery. let's get to "abc 7 news"news"ne reporter matt boone, live for us in pacific heights. what can you tell us? >> reporter: dion, absolute nightmare situation for the father and the two children he says were inside his car he says was taken behind me. police are behind me on the scene canvassing the area. an amber alert was just issued. we know this happened around 8:45 this evening. as you mentioned, dion, the man was making a doordash delivery here in pacific heights neighborhood of san francisco near laguna and jackson streets.

these are the pictures of the two children who he says are inside the car, his 4-year-old daughter and his 1 1/2-year-old boy. the story right now that we're getting is that he was making that delivery. he was inside of the apartment, came back out. that's when he says he interacted with someone who was inside of his car. >> i was working, delivering food for doordash. i was in there for less than a minute. i came out, a guy was in my car. a stranger was in my car. i yesterday at him, tell him to get out. two of my kids is in the car. i just want my kids back. times are hard. if you're going to have to resort to stealing, that's a different matter. but, please, don't hurt my kids. let they return safely back to me and my wife, please. >> reporter: that car was a silver honda odyssey, 2014. the license plate on your screen,

ruling from the supreme court that will allow for churches and other houses of worship to resume indoor services in california. that order late last night said the state cannot ban services because of the pandemic. however, it is allowed to limit them to 25% of the building's capacity. the state updated their guidance to reflect this, but says they are reviewing those orders. the high court's justices did keep the ban in place on singing and chanting. california islamic council, their gatherings will continue outdoor like this regardless of the supreme court's order. that's because santa clara county is still prohibiting any indoor gatherings, and they're okay with it for now. >> and we have a responsibility to, we have a duty to save human life, and we want to make sure we do that. >> reporter: in san francisco, luz pena, "abc 7 news". today marks the anniversary of the first american to die from covid-19, a san jose woman. since then more than 460,000 people in the u.s. have died. california reported another 623 deaths today, pushing the state's total close to 44,000. but we are seeing a continuing trend with the positivity rate that indicates the spread of the virus is slowing. the seven-day is down to 5.5%. it hasn't been that low since before thanksgiving. mass vaccinations are happening this weekend in alameda county at the golden gate fields racetrack.

help replace his stolen equipment. sfpd is investigating this incident. new developments now. oakland police have located a person of interest in the chinatown attacks on three seniors. investigators say the man is in custody on an unrelated criminal case and was booked february 1st. sources tell "abc 7 news" the person of interest is a known suspect in other incidents. the assaults all took place along harrison at 4th street sunday in san francisco. now, police say the suspect knocked three people to the ground. we should point out oakland -- apologies there. a 91-year-old man had to be apologized. a 60-year-old man and 55-year-old woman also lost consciousness. mean tiltime, young leaders oakland came together to stand up against violence. activists held public peace demonstrations to silence the violence. they are calling for an end to all forms of vionce frota

"abc 7 news" reporter matt boone explains organizers plan to continue meal services and to help residents of a nearby homeless encampment where the fire was suspected to have started. >> reporter: early this morning oakland firefighters captured these images as they battled a fire tearing through the vietnamese community center of the east bay. >> they provide i think 1,000 meals every month, i believe, to 200, 200 community members.

>> reporter: jennifer tran runs the oakland vietnamese chamber of commerce. she says a fundraising effort is already under way to help rebuild and to get temporary services running at other facilities. their big lunar new year's celebration which was planned at the park surrounding the community center on sunday will still happen. >> now that we have this fire, like the first instinct people have is, you know, it is because of the homelessness, the homeless problem, the homeless problem. and i think that the lunar new year market will be important for us to humanize our unsheltered community members. >> reporter: she ss several homeless residents were displaced as their encampment also burned. firefighters say they suspect that's where the fire began before spreading to the community center, though an official investigation is still underway. >> we're supporting the effort to get the organization, you know, operational so that we can make sure that the residents in need can continue to get their meals and other services.

east bay hills camera facing west. you see the city of san francisco, sutro tower blinking in t background. no fog to speak of right now. in fact, we will deal with mainly clear skies overnight tonight leading to a pretty sunny start to the day on sunday. earlier today, we made it into the low 70s in many of our warmest spots. so well above where we should be for early february. right now we're slowly falling back through the 40s and the 50s, but novato right now is getting chilly in the north bay. we're already down to 39 degrees. across the golden gate bridge in the city at 51. 52 in oakland. 51 in san jose. concord down to the upper 40s at 48 degrees. here is live doppler 7 along with satellite. the story we are tracking, high pressure is pretty much right on top of california, meaning sunny skies during the day an rather clear skies at night. that's what we're finding right now. perhaps a few thin cirrus clouds moving in from time to time over the next 24 hours, but all in all it is a pretty quiet pattern

for our sunday. overnight tonight is a blend of stars and clouds out there. the coldest spots will drop in the 30s. around the bay shoreline we will settle in low and mid 40s for starting temperatures top. breaking down the day on sunday, the sun is up at 7:07 in the morning. we will start in the 30s and 40s, so it is a chilly start but the sun effective at warming us up quickly. by the afternoon it is another mild day. maybe a couple of degrees cooler tomorrow compared to today, but you will feel the warm air in the afternoon. most of us away from the coast going into the 60s. a close look at highs on our sunday. we will have about 65 under mostly sunny skies in oakland. 67 in san jose. 68 in santa rosa. the same in concord. a little cooler on the coast, but still upper 50s to mid 60s from half moon bay to santa cruz. it is a dry finish to the weekend and really the next seven days it is pretty quiet. what we are watching on future

now from abc 7, live breaking news. once again getting back to that breaking news coming out of san francisco tonight where an amber alert was issued just about 30 minutes ago for these two young children. they were in a car, their father says was stolen while he was making a doordash delivery. "abc 7 news" reporter matt boone has been on the scene all evening. he joins us once gene from pacific heights where it appears to be very active behind you. >> reporter: dion, still a lot of action out here. i just spoke to that father a few moments ago. he says no major updates, just a lot of anxiety right now as police scour the area for that missing car with his two children inside. i'll get out of the way. you can take a look. spfd and detectives just showed up. some of the motor bikes driving there are actually police officers that have been scanning the area. we have pictures of the two children who were inside the vehicle. one is a 4-year-old girl. the other one is a 1 1/2-year-old boy.
