stolen van is thanking first responders and the public for helping find them. it prompted a huge response from law enforcement overnight who searched the cities into the early hours of the morning. good morning, everybody, it is sunday, february 7th. i'm liz croix. thank you for joining us. we will hear more from that father on the job working for doordash when his car was stolen. plus, how his kids are doing. let's start with a quick look at the weather with lisa arjen. >> good morning, we have fog. it's cool out there. the sun comes it will be dissipating through the 9:00 hour. as you can see, a quarter mile, half moon bay, santa rosa. we're a good deal cooler from the coast to our inland valleys with those 30. you see from san ramone to

livermore. 45 in half moon bay. in the afternoon, sunshine, 30s to the 60s for many of you with mid and upper 60s in our inland valleys. it's cooler at the coast, though. only the upper 50s. we will talk about a couple dry days before we see a return to the rain. that's in a few minutes. liz. >> all right. thank you. so breaking news in san francisco. police say two children that were inside a van stolen in san francisco last night have been found and are back home this morning. after about four n-and-a-half hours, they were found inside the van in the bay view district. video from early this morning shows the young children in the back of an ambulance after the police found them. they were medically examined after being reunited with their parents. >> every minute is most excruciating. no fancy words can express how grateful we are, me and my wife

and our family. that they are safe, it's a happy unfortunate episode. >> an amber alert while he was delivered doordash in pacific heights. it happened around 8:45 p.m. close to 11:00 is when the amber alert went out. they told abc 7 news he parked with his hazard lights on. he hopped out quickly to deliver the food. when he came back. stranger was in his car and drove off. officials say there is word on a suspect. thankfully, those kids have been found safe. now, let's get to a supreme court ruling that allows houses of worship to resume services. the order came late friday night. it says the state cannot ban service due to the pandemic. however, it is allowed to limit 25% of the building's capacity. the state updated their guidance

to reflect this. it says they are reviewing the orders. the high court justices did keep the ban in place. liz pena found houses of worship are responding very differently to this. >> reporter: you are hearing the sound of the st. mary's cathedral organ, welcoming its members to the first indoor gathering of the year. we asked if we could joinle as he walked inside his church after 11 months of outdoor services. this is what you have been praying for? >> yes, thanks to the supreme court, its finances. >> reporter: outside, these blue x marks serve as a reminder of months of outdoor gatherings, many had to bring their own chairs and stand 6-feet apart in the cold. father finnegan making a supreme court decision a part of his message. >> they're grateful for the decision handed down by the supreme court. >> reporter: safety is paramount

as every member got their temperature checked and offered hand sanitizer as they socially distanced in the pews. >> communion in the hand, rather than to receive it on the tongue. >> reporter: for counties in the purple tier, like san francisco, indoor gatherings have to follow a 25% capacity. but not all religious leaders are on the same page. >> we do not naturally encourage our seniors to come. >> reporter: reverend brown says they are being cautious and are planning to open for indoor gatherings next sunday. >> we know about laly nos and blacks have been disproportiona disproportionately by the congregation. for the islamic council, their gatherings will continue outdoors like this, regardless of the supreme court's order, that's because santa clara county is still prohibiting any indoor gatherings and they're okay with it for now. >> and we have responsibility to

investigators say the man is in custody on an unrelated criminal case and was booked february 1st. the attacks all happened one week ago on january 31st. all three victims were injured. meanwhile, young leaders in oakland are coming together to standard up against violence. activists held public peace demonstrations to silence the violence. they are calling for an end to all forms of violence from physical and domestic to state violence and police brutality. demonstrators are also calling for accessibility to quality education, jobs and community resources, such as violence prevention efforts. cities like oakland have seen a spike in crime since the pandemic began. >> a lot of people are dealing with before coronavirus are made worse by the pandemic. people need jobs, housing, people need food. people need resources. we're making a statement for that. >> they were also giving out free ppe, hand sanitizer and masks. all right, lisa, let's head

. in the east bay, the effort to rebuild the vietnamese community center is already under way after it was damaged in a fire. matt boone explains, organizers continue services and help residents of a nearby homeless encampment. >> reporter: oakland firefighters captured these images as they battled a fire tearing through the community center of the east bay. >> it provides like a thousand meals every month i believe to 200. 200 community members. >> reporter: jennifer tran opens the vietnamese chamber of commerce. she says a fund-raising effort is already under way to help rebuild and to get temporary services running at facilities. the big lunar celebration, which was planned at the park surrounding the community center on sunday will still happen. >> now that we have this fire,

the first instinct that people have is, you know, it's because of the homeless problem. the homeless problem. and i think that the near market will be important for us to humanize our unsheltered community members. >> reporter: she says several homeless members were displaced as their encampment burned. firefighters suspect thai that's where the fire began before spreading, though an official investigation is still under way. >> we are supporting the effort to get the organization, you know, operational, so that we can make sure that the residents in need can continue to get their meals and other services. >> reporter: oakland city council president says the building is owned by the parks and rec department. rebuilding plans are still to be determined. >> potentially it's an opportunity to imagine a much more vibrant rec center as well as park and then i think it's also a reminder how important

francisco, walton grew up in public housing in bay view. he now represents that area as district 10 supervisors. in 2020, he gained national attention, which makes racially biased 911 calls illegal. he also established the advisory committee looking into reparations for black san fransicoans. >> we are the first city to have true reparation laws on the books. we are going to get this done working together. >> reporter: while the position is. >> i said we will fight for uitl maki low ies, bla populations have opportunities. once you are hear that role, you have to be vocal and do the things you say you do and work with the people to help you get it done. so i think that we have been

he says he parked with his hazard lights on and hopped out to deliver the food. when he came back arc stranger ofcis say there is still no word on the suspect. all right, let's go back to the pandemic now. which is on a collision with one of the biggest sporting events of the day, super bowl sunday. health officials peer it can spark another surge. it comes as the u.s. is struggling to continue variants of the virus. there are some encouraging news. >> it's super bowl sunday and because of the coronavirus pandemic, it will be unlike any super bowl before it. in tampa, the set precautions are already in place. of the 75,000 seats inside raymond james stadium, only 22,000 will be filled with fans, including 7500 vaccinated healthcare workers invited by the nfl. everyone in attendance will be required to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and will receive a ppe kit.

they reported trump's lawyer requested the trial be suspended if it does not wrap up by the beginning of the sabbath on friday. schumer's office says they will respect and honor that request. conversations about the structure of the trial continue. as far as president trump's impeachment trial nears, a majority of americans now say he should be convicted and barred from holding federal office. that is according to a new abc news ins so popsos the support is up from a similar poll from last month in january. meantime, afternoon more than two weeks in office, that same poll finds two-thirds of americans approve of president biden's covid-19 response by comparison for nearly the entirety of the pandemic in support of trump's response eroded and remained under water for months. and there is a new tribute to a comic legend from the north
