for joining us. i'm dion lim. the father is thanking first responders and the public for helping find the children. they were reunited about 4 1/2 hours after their dad's van was car jacked. here's abc7 news reporter cornell barnard. >> god, thank god, just thank god. >> reporter: jeffrey fang was overjoyed to hold his 1-year-old son kid npd along with his 4-year-old sister saturday night. both kids are safe and back home. >> when we heard, it was, it was just elation. >> reporter: both children found okay in san francisco's bay view district and taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation. they were spotted by police inside their dad's odyssey mini heights while jeffrey fang was making a door dash delivery at 8:45. >> they don't know what's going on. they speak mandarin only. >> reporter: he surprised the suspect inside the van. there was a brief struggle but the van and suspect got away.

>> i heard a scream. my husband thought it was the tv. >> reporter: this couple wanted to help. >> we were on the side streets stopping every silver mini van to check the license plate. >> reporter: a search began. info about the twins was tweeted out and this amber alert was issued to cell phones across the bay area. four hours later the kids were found. >> they found the kids, they found the car. the kids are all right. >> reporter: suspects in the case remain at large. san francisco police chief william scott made this personal appeal. >> to the people that were involved in this to turn themselves in because this crime was extremely, extremely serious. to kidnap a vehicle, to take two small babies away from their parents. >> reporter: in a statement, the ceo of door dash said, we were appalled by this brazen and heinous act and are actively working with law enforce itment. as a father myself, i can only imagine how terrifying this

titles. he said he's coming back for more. the san mateo native helped win 31-9 over the previously defending kansas city chiefs champions. brady wouldn't his 7th title. he has more championships than the patriots. he has won his fifth mvp and drafted the 7th quarterback, another title is pretty sweet. >> it's been an amazing year. we started 7-2, had a rough stretch where we found our identity. played a lot better football the last december, january. and just really proud of all the guys, proud of all the coaches, the effort we put in. we knew we were playing a great football team tonight and we got the job done. so you want be to get this far, you have to get the job done and we did it. >> pretty amazing. coming upping in a few minutes,

highlights from super bowl lv. super bowl lvi in l.a. next year. >> thanks. covid precautions were top of mind for many bay area football fans. abc7 news reporter j.r. stone talked to families about how they were celebrating and trying to stay safe. >> reporter: outdoor super bowl sunday celebrations in full swing in the bay area, but not only on the outside of this san francisco sports bar, or this one. but at this two-person party in yontville and fremont. >> we normally get together with 10 to 12 people. this year it's two of us. my husband and i. >> reporter: we reached out online to see where you were watching and the response came in by the dozens. in daly city, it was the tom brady fan club party of three. >> we're sisters. this is my boyfriend. we all live together. >> reporter: but some did not have the option to watch at home or eat outside. some like 9-year-old matthew, who is on the transplant list

for a kidney and may have to go on dialysis soon, watched the super bowl from the benioff children's hospital with his mother. >> it's been on since 2:00. i put it on for my mom while she was gone getting a pizza. guess what, didn't even come because they said no one was able to deliver it. a >> they're running low on delivery people so he got his pizza. >> reporter: those sat with those they knew. >> i think going out and being outside is probably reasonable thing. >> reporter: everyone just doing their best to try and be safe and have a few traditional tasty treats. >> he's in the hospital, we couldn't be there together. we facetime every quarter, talk when we can, and now we're talking to you. >> yeah, i think everything has managed to disappear maybe. 22,000. the seven-day positivity rate keeps on falling and now stands at 5.4%. this is a good indicator of the spread of the virus. and the state did report more than 15,000 newly diagnosed cases today, which is about the daily average for the past week. as we work to help build a bet effort bay area, one of the areas we're focusing on is education. san francisco took a big step forward today in reopening school campuses. the teachers union reaped a tentative agreement with the school district and abc7 news reporter luz pena breaks down the time line. >> reporter: it's been nearly a year of this. 8-year-old sean said he's had enough. >> i don't want to go back to school. i think it might happen in year, but i'm not sure. >> reporter: seva rash left his job to focus on his 8 and 14-year-old sons. the youngest one is doing okay, but his concern grows deeper for his older one.

>> he used to play football. he's a virginia >> reporter: san francisco's unified school district and the teachers union reached a tentative agreement to reopen for in-person classes. but now the question is when? that's what the parent group open schools california has been pushing for. >> over 90 private schools in the city have been open since september. over 70 learning hubs which are run by the city opened since september. >> reporter: i spoke to susan sullivan the president of united educators of san francisco, the teachers union. she confirmed they want all their teachers vaccinated before going back to in-person classes and will only go back when the city is in the red tier. >> that's true in the red tier. if the county gets the orange tier, we do not require that vaccines be available to teachers. >> reporter: this tentative agreement comes after the city

sued its own school district this week. san francisco's board of education's president says they're getting the schools ready. >> we've gone through the department of public health inspection. i've been at our sites and seen the set-up is aligned with the guidelines that they said. >> reporter: this agreement will need to go before the board of education on tuesday. but the school district and the teachers union will still need to agree on daily schedule. the hope is for classrooms to reopen before the summer break. in san francisco, luz pena, abc7 news. >> saints peter and paul church in san francisco is reporting an outbreak of covid-19 in its rectory. at least three priests have fallen ill. that is according to a message on its website. the church says it will be closed through february 13th with all services streamed online only. the san francisco city attorney's office last year sent the arch diocese a cease and desist letter ordering the church to stop holding large indoor masses. in july, at least ten people were infected with covid at a

new video tonight shows a 70-year-old grandma knocked to the ground and robbed of her purse in oakland. we do want to warn you, the video is disturbing to watch. the granddaughter told me her grandmother was coming home from the bank february 3rd. police are aware of the incident. it was in the area of 6th avenue

and international boulevard. the chinatown chamber of commerce reports there are 20 assaults and robberies in nearby chinatown in recent weeks. another assault and robbery, this one in the lone mountain neighborhood. also this video is alarming. a 79-year-old man was punched and robbed in the area of kit ridge and turk february 4th. sources say they are leaving the scene here, part of four robbery victims. our s.f.p.d. is asking for anyone with information to reach out. >> oakland's vietnamese community is moving fire after ravaged the community center. the fire burned a third of the building at clinton park. hours later the organization had already begun a fund-raising effort to help rebuild. they have set up a gofundme page, and today they went ahead with a lunar new year outdoor market where food, shopping and free covid testing was available. >> there's a lot of work

done and we have our councilmembers from all over oakland right now coming here just so eager, so ready to support clinton park like all the rec centers deserve in oakland. >> their resilience is pretty impressive. the center provides mobile food deliveries for people in need, including those in a nearby homeless encampment where the fire is suspected to have started. a small earthquake gave east bay residents a quick jolt this afternoon. the magnitude 3.2 quake hit at about 4:45. its epicenter north of the calaveras reservoir east of fremont. shaking was felt from hayward all the way south to san jose. some people even in san francisco also felt it. there has been no report of any damage. today's super bowl entertainers delivered some buzz worthy musical performances. grammy winning vallejo native "her" delivered an electrifying r rendition of "america the

francisco sutro tower bliin we do hav partly clou s overhead, and you'll notice tomorrow we'll have more cloud cover in our sky during the day than we had over the weekend. right now temperatures are cooling off into the 40s in most spots. 42 right now in santa rosa. we're down to 48 in hayward. 44 in san mateo. the city right now coming in with the current temperature of about 50 degrees. the bigger picture we're tracking, here's doppler 7 with satellite. one shine over the weekend, essentially sitting on top of california. that's going to push off to the east. you can see what's over the ocean right now, some cloud cover on satellite. and that cloud cover is going to move in here tomorrow and kind of linger to tuesday as well. so we'll call it partly sunny conditions over the next couple of days. tonight with those increasing clouds moving in from the west, temperatures will mainly drop into the 30s in our coolest spots in the north bay. low to mid 40s around the bay shoreline. 43 the low in oakland tonight,

42 in san jose. 40 in san rafael. it it will drop to 39 in vallejo. here's tomorrow's break down. sunrise is 7:06 in the morning. a chilly start with temperatures in the 30s and 40s. throughout the day we'll find those partly sunny skies and that cooler afternoon. temperatures closer to average for this time of year. along the coast we're in the mid 50s, away from the coast will be in the low 60s for the most part. a closer look at highs on your monday, 57 in the city tomorrow. that's slightly below average for this time of the year. 60 in oakland, high of 62 in san jose. 61 in santa rosa. 62 in antioch, but cool along the coast with half moon bay at about 54 degrees. fast forward to future weather. at the end of the week where we track some of the wet weather returning, we'll go into thursday. it looks like by thursday evening, this is 5:00 p.m. on thursday, that wll track some showers returning to the bay, some snow falling in the sierra. though showers linger for the

first part of our friday. and then we'll track another system quickly moving in here next weekend. looks like saturday and sunday we'll track some showers once again. but all in all it looks pretty light, these storms we're tracking. rainfall potential over the next seven days certainly favoring northern california as opposed to southern california. you can see we'll find probably half an inch to more than an inch as you get closer to redding. we'll watch our pattern change as we get into the second half of the forecast. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. cloudier and cooler the next couple of days. then we'll track that rain returning late on thursday with the showers on friday and then that next storm arrives here, dion, saturday into sunday for valentine's day. all 1s, light storms on the impact scale. we'll keep our eye on that as we get closer. >> drew, thanks. still ahead on abc7 news at 11:00, just as important as the super bowl game is, so are the ads. we take a look at the serio

some of the most popular tv ads during the super bowl tonight certainly had star power. bruce springsteen was in his very first tv ad ever for jeep. >> the middle has been a hard place to get to lately. between red and blue, between servant and citizen. >> the ad was filmed in lebanon, kansas, exactly the center of the lower 48 states. springsteen is seen cruising the roads in his own jeep. the ad ends with a dedication to the reunited states of america. it is getting some mixed reaction online with some saying they loved the idea, while others called it tone deaf. now, on a lighter note actor michael b. jordan stars in an ad for amazon's new alexa. the ad has alexa inhabiting jordan's body. the ad was posted on youtube earlier this week and has been viewed more than 72 million

>> announcer: building a better bay area for a safe and secure future, this is abc7 news. >> now to covid-19 and the race to get americans vaccinated. the nation's top health experts say vaccine rollout is gaining momentum. the center for disease control says more than 2.2 million doses were given on saturday. that brings the seven-day average to 1.4 million shots a day, still not enough, though, to meet demand.

but dr. anthony fauci says the supply issue should start to improve in the coming weeks. >> so even though there is a clear, clear discrepancy between the demand and the supply, that will get better as we get through february and into march. >> the cdc is reporting that 9% of americans have received at least one shot. officials are also counting on the fda authorizing a one-dose vaccine from johnson & johnson later this month. south africa is suspending the use of astrazeneca's vaccine. evidence showed it gives just minimal protection against mild to moderate illnesses in cases caused by the more contagious variant that is dominant in the country. it was president be clen't clea protected against disease. if it does, south africa said it would consider resuming its use. all this comes after a million doses of the astrazeneca vaccine arrived in south africa. president joe biden said he

president bass is urging oaklanders to support chinatown safety after several violent assaults on seniors. in one incident a 90-year-old man was knocked to the ground in broad daylight. it is one of more than 20 assaults and robberies the chinatown chamber of commerce has documented in the neighborhood in recent weeks. council woman bass is calling for community safety walks. >> we are creating a visible presence of eyes on the streets, feet on the street to make sure that we're taking care of each other. >> the oakland police department says a person of interest in three attacks has been in custody since last monday. well, it is a changing of the guard at the oakland police department. the city's new chief of police la ron armstrong will take the reigns tomorrow. that means saying farewell to infill chief susan manheimer. they shared a photo of armstrong being promoted from deputy chief along with a celebratory a pair of teenagers is

leaving quite an artistic imprint on a san francisco neighborhood. 15-year-old eva nusbaum san francisco school of the arts. their facade designs will be on two new housing buildings for middle income workers. the design pays tribute to jazz musicians with sheet music. >> famous jazz musicians played there. i picked miles davis and i kind of based my design off of one of his more famous songs. >> there is a hand reaching down and a hand reaching up. who liv the tenderloin liked that because he thought it was showing how people are reaching up for help, but people are also reaching down to help others. >> the developer forged development partners said the facades will go up in october on the 8-story building that includes 240 housing units.

the super bowl wasn't the only big game on today. the puppy bowl aired on animal planet with a dramatic finish. team ruff was trailing and under a minute left came from behind to win it all. today's event featured 70 puppies from 22 different animal shelters from across the country. for the past 16 puppy bowls, each and every one of the pups was adopted afterward. drew, that's probably one of my favorite spectacles to watch. i'm not much of a sports person, but i am into the puppy bowl. >> yeah, i know. everybody looks forward to that puppy bowl every year. that is so awesome that they're getting adopted. we love to see that, dogs and cats, finding a new home. fantastic. let's talk about what's happening later on tonight into tomorrow. we'll find more clouds moving in. tomorrow we'll find a blend of sun and clouds, not as bright of a day as today and yesterday, but nonetheless still a nice day. overnight tonight mid 30s to mid 40s with that increasing cloud
