trump last stepped foot in the white house. but now he is the focus of attention again here on capitol hill facing impeachment accused of inciting an insurrection. the rules are set for the historic and second impeachment trial of former president donald trump. each side getting 16 hours over 2 days to make their case. if impeachment managers decide they want witnesses, there will be a vote. >> president trump's lawyers have agreed to a bipartisan resolution to govern the structure and timing of the impending trial. >> reporter: senators now becoming jurors as trump faces one article of impeachment accused of being singularly responsible for the january 6th deadlyhe. and it's videos like these where to argue the rioters were inspired by trump's own words that day to storm the capitol. >> if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore. >> reporter: trump himself won't

testify. his defense however will argue trump's words are protected under the first amendment. in a legal brief filed this week, it was asserted that he did not direct anyone to commit lawless actions adding those who did did so of their own accord and citing these words from trump speech as proof. >> everyone here will soon be marching over to the capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. >> reporter: unlike trump's first impeachment trial which was split down party lines here ten gop house lawmakers voted to impeach including adam kinzinger. ahead of the trial kinzinger writing a scathing op-ed urging senate republicans to break party lines and vote to convict the former president saying it is necessary to save america and the time is a matter of accountability. but most other gop senators have already showed strong support for trump calling the trial counterproductive. a conviction is unlikely. and right before this trial officials in georgia announcing that they're launching an

investigation into trump and a phone call that he had with election officials there. that probe is likely to be a part of this impeachment case. kenneth, mona. >> all right, we know trump urging georgia secretary of state to find those votes in that call. andrew on capitol hill, thank you. the fbi is investigating ang apparent plot to poison the water supply of a city in florida. officials in oldsmar, florida, say a hacker gained access at the water treatment plant and sharply increased the level of sodium hydroxide in the water, that is the main ingredient in liquid drain cleaners. they noticed and changed the settings back. cybersecurity experts warned for years hackers could target municipal water systems. >> it's the first time that there's been a successful hack that we documented in the united states that specifically targets a water company, which is uniquely relevant simply because

check out this scary moment on a wisconsin highway. a truck hits a snowbank near milwaukee, skids off a ramp and plunges 70 feet onto the highway below. amazingly the driver did survive and police say he was not impaired. new video shows fire destroying this historic covered bridge in troy, vermont. police say a snowmobile caught fire and the flames spread to the bridge, which dates back to 1910. we turn now to the car crash involving the son of super bowl coach andy reid. he is now sharing new details as police reveal the investigation is only just beginning. here's abc's megan tevrizian. >> reporter: this morning a young girl remains in critical condition after the crash involving kansas city chiefs assistant coach britt reid. reid is the son of head coach

andy reid who revealed moj that his son needed surgery after the crash. >> britt did have surgery. he's doing better now. you know, that little girl, my heart goes out to her. yeah. >> reporter: the crash thursday night was less than a mile from arrowhead stadium where the chiefs play. >> arriving on scene we have one child possibly critically injured. >> reporter: police say there were two car, one disabled and one parked when reid plowed into both of them with his truck. two children, a 4-year-old and 5-year-old were injured and hospitalized. >> critical injuries, i heard. do we need to shut the highway down? >> reporter: the 5-year-old, ariel young, suffered a serious head injury. the chiefs writing in a statement, we are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. reid is now under investigation for impairment. police say the outside linebackers coach told officers he had two or three drinks and was taking adderall. he was taken to the hospital after complaining of stomach pain. >> yeah, my heart goes out to
