democrats, voting the trial should move forward. the trial will kick off 16 hours of opening arguments, eight hours for each side. the trial begins in earnest at noon. rachel scott, abc news. capitol hill. >> rachel, thank you. louisiana senator bill kasz cassidy was one of those senators to switch sides and voted to proceed with the trial. he was the only senator to switch sides after voting last month it was unconstitutional to impeach a former president. he was asked if other senators would flip and vote to impeach the former president? >> i'm going to have to say probably not likely, but possible. and it just depends on how it goes. how public pressure is. politicians are naturally very receptive to what people are telling them, their constituents. so i think if the general american public reacts to what they're seeing with horror and with the belief that he needs removed, as i believe, then i think it's quite possible.

unfortunately, i think politics has so much clouded everything, that even something as important as this, it's hard for people to take a vote outside of what the political implications are. >> but kinsinger said the vote would definitely pass if it was held in private. new details this morning the man arrested for a deadly mass shooting in minnesota reportedly threatened that facility back in 2018. police say 67-year-old gregory ulrich is no stranger to them. he is accused of opening fire on a medical clinic 40 mils outside of minneapolis. one person was killed and four others hurt. the minneapolis tribune said ulrich threatened a mass shooting at that same exact clinic in 2018, seemingly because he was upset over his medical care. he violated a restraining order the following months. turning now to the race to vaccinate americans against covid-19. so far, nearly 33 million americans have received at least

one dose and another 1 million doses of vaccine will be sent to hundreds of pharmacies across this country. i spoke earlier with dr. shashank ravi. dr. ravi, big picture here, are you seeing improvement in the vaccine process in the recent days? >> well, kenneth we are seeing improvements. we are surpassing a million shots in to arms on a daily basis. we are starting to reach a state where initially over the last month, the majority of shots were first vaccines and now sites are having to carefully plan between ensuring there's enough supply for the second shots while keeping the momentum going forward and getting new individuals vaccinated. >> major pharmacy chains are now taking appointments for vaccinations. is this the best way for americans who have not been vaccinated to get their shot? >> i don't think that we can say a one size fits all scenario is applicable here. i think the pharmacy chains are going to play an important role in those individuals who live in more rural -- who don't have access to large health care

systems and ensuring the distribution of vaccines. >> families and elder case advocates are speaking out about nursing home vaccinations. they're calling for visitations to resume after nursing homes received vaccines because isolation has taken a toll. your thoughts? >> i can sympathize with the toll that isolation has on nursing home residents and their loved ones. however, i don't believe we are quite ready to easy the restrictions yet. the can cases are higher than last summer and fall and we must remember that vaccines are not 100% effective, research is still ongoing on to the type of immune response that elderly mount. >> dr. ravi, thank you. >> thanks, kenneth. kansas city chiefs assistant coach britt reid is annoy on administrative leave. police are investigating a crash that left a 5-year-old girl critically injured.
