with that, we say good evening and thank you for joining us. issues of race and social justice are topics we are exploring as we move to build a better bay area. today's calls for public safety and unity have support that the solution is much more complicated. >> reporter: this is what solidarity looks like in oakland during a pandemic. jennifer tran is, helped organize the event. she was surprised by the turnout. >> it meant that others are listening. >> one of those incidents happened on east 12th street. a woman exited and a suspect jumped out of a car, stealing her purse before speeding away. >> she bought one little tea, got in the car and left away without her purse in a traumatizing event. truck that is the owner of the store saying he was frustrated i the slow police response.

>> two days and they still have not responded to us? that is way too long. >> reporter: the idea of increasing police resources is at the center of a wider conversation work in the crowd, people held up signs supporting the movement to defund the police with slogans like fund communities, not cops. >> often times when the city budget is tight, communities are pitted against each other. >> reporter: he came wearing a shirt with the words asian- black unity. >> the responsibility is it on the police. >> in a statement from the mayor, she says they will be reinstating a police liaison. we will restore these officers as so many in the community have demanded, while at the same time investigating none police safety measures, as well.

san francisco police are investigating a shooting that left six people hurt. it happened in the bayview district at about 6:00 this evening police say all six victims are in stable condition. they have not identify the suspect. police in just after 1:00, six men were shot in the area of ninth and washington street. all of their injuries are not life-threatening. anyone with information is asked to call police. a reward of up to $30,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. a woman so she was attacked and her car was stolen. she was on her way home after

work yesterday afternoon when she said four people attacked her. she says she was pistol-whipped and that the suspect stole her keys and took off with her car. this, by the way, is not on camera. despite says she is not angry at the suspects, she just wants to send this message to the community. speak out if you see something like this happen. it was a neighbor that ultimately jumped in to help her. >> the street was full, there were cars everywhere. there are two illnesses that were open. if a few people would have just opened their windows and said, we see you, or we are recording, pull out your phone, something. there are so many ways you could have made, that people could have made me feel like i wasn't alone. >> she said she worked three jobs to pay for her car right out of high school. the toyota means a lot to her. she is filed a police report. the vehicle description is at

our website, abc7news.com. old st. mary's cathedral is on the brink of closure because of the pandemic. the church held its first in person mass in months tonight. the ban on indoor services was lifted a week ago. this may be a little too late. the chronicle reports that the order of priests who run st. mary's oh $250,000 in insurance payments to the city's archdiocese. donations have dried up as parishioners were forced to stay home. they are vowing to rebuild after the fire burned the barn to the ground. it had been standing for more than 100 years serving as a produce stand, beloved by the community. >> reporter: it is no more. the historic barn belonging to the family farms was destroyed by a fire on friday. >> it is definitely a building that had a lot of soul and a

lot of history. >> nearby homeowners describe the moments when the barn went up in flames >> the neighbors were hosing down their house. my husband was on the roof as we were afraid of's rating embers. it was extremely scary. >> reporter: firefighters are still investigating the cause but say the barn is a total loss. >> it is like losing a family member. and day-to-day options are going to change drastically in the meantime. >> the family bought the farm in 1926. is specialized in artichokes but has evolved to growing fruits and vegetables year- round. it is known for its annual pumpkin patch and flower field. they were used as a produce stand giving the community the, a place to shop for farm to table ingredients. >> it is really touching to see on next door all these beautiful sentiments and memories that people have.

winds. tomorrow, the wind will remain very light. temperatures right now, with those winds, we are still in the low 50s from san francisco to oakland. in the north they, we have fallen back into the 40s. temperatures will continue their slow fall into the 40s overnight tonight. it is a blend of stars and clouds. 46 below in the city. 40 the overnight low in napa. 43 that low in concord. we look at the forecast over tomorrow, you can see we will start out with partly sunny skies and sunrise at exactly 7:00 in the morning. clouds will continue to thicken throughout the day. we will introduce the chance of a shower around 4:00 p.m., specifically in the north bay. once the sun goes down, by about 7:00 or 8:00, that is when the scattered showers will begin to slide south. on the storm impact scale, tomorrow evening and lingering into that monday morning, we

will track the level one might storm with body light showers. rainfall, we are really below in terms of rainfall totals. future weather, we get you to 4:00 p.m. you can see light showers from santa rosa and points north through cloverdale and ukiah. after the sun sets, you will see scattered showers settling down. going into the overnight hours, you will continue to track spotty, light showers moving to the bay area. total rainfall will find very low totals. most cities will end up with less than a quarter of an inch of rain for monday morning. we will track snow in the syria. and winter weather advisory will go into effect. above 6000 feet, we could get up to about eight inches on our highest peaks. that will bring slick trouble conditions over the next 48 hours. back in the bay area, spotty,

building a better bay area. for a safe and secure future, this is abc 7 news. tonight, scientists and lawmakers focusing on children and the impact of the coronavirus as schools reopen across the country. efforts to get millions of americans vaccinated continue, but neither of the two vaccines available is recommended for children under 16. today, oxford university announced extending study of its covid-19 vaccine for use in children. meanwhile, school districts are

struggling with how to get kids back into the classroom safely. now, the cdc has issued a roadmap to reopening schools centered around a color-coded system and classroom modifications. >> it is not just having guidelines but also making sure we have the resources for it, and making sure that --. >> she says the guide offers suggestions and will not be used to shut schools down. in the south bay, people can get their vaccination at gilroy high school. appointments are required. residents face the highest case and positivity rates of any city in santa clara county. the site will offer about 1000 vaccinations per day. to the east they wear transit and bart are offering free rides to people who get vaccinated at the oakland coliseum. if you take bart, show staff your vaccination card and you will get a ticket. at the

bay area. one story from this week is getting a lot of attention at our website. it is about a couple who almost got cheated out of half $1 million. here is part of the story from julian glover. >> it was work, but it was exciting. truck paul and his wife felt like they captured a slice of the american dream when they purchased their first home together. this original home. it was not without challenges. >> as soon as a house came on the market, you go and put your bid in and then you are outfitted by hundred thousand or more, rather quickly. that can be a little bit depressing. >> they bought the home off market hoping to make ownership a reality for another young black couple. after moving into the home, they often staged major renovations.

adding an entire floor and more than 1000 square feet of space. then, they got it appraised. >> i read the appraisal, i was like, this is unbelievable. >> the appraiser was an older white woman and they were convinced race was a factor. it was just $100,000 more despite $400,000 in renovations. >> it was a slap in the face. truck they immediately called their lender and pushed back after a month of escalating complaints. they were approved for a second appraisal. when the day came, they got creative. >> we had a conversation with one of our white friends. she was like no problem, i will bring tanisha and brig over some pictures of our family. she made our home look like it belonged to her. >> it appraised for 1.482. it was 50% more than what it appraised for a couple weeks prior. >> $500,000 more.

longtime bashlor host chris harrison is temporarily stepping aside. he faced backlash after defending a front runner on the current season which, for the first time ever has a black ashlar. images surfaced that appeared to show the woman at an antebellum plantation themed party. harrison called for grace for the woman and criticized the woke police. he apologized and said he is dedicated to getting educated. the bashlor airs monday nights at 8:00 right here.
