time we get to the evening commute. this morning's commute most likely to be slippery with less than a tenth of an inch of rain likely out of these waves of light showers. not a lot showing up on live doppler 7. it's hugging the ground so much that the rain is overshooting it. you can see showers moving northwest to southeast there, and you can see from the golden gate bridge how soupy it is outside. a west wind at 17. a bit of a crosswind. that's going to add a windchill into the air. so, temperatures are pretty mild. upper 40s to low 50s through 7:00. mid to upper 50s the rest of the afternoon. back to you. >> all right. thank you. two people are dead after a fiery crash overnight in san jose. this is video from the scene along mckeon road near the collaro reservoir. chp said they arrived to find one car off the road and the other on fire. officers found one victim in each car. they have not said yet what caused the crash.

mckeon road is shut down in both directions while they investigate. we are on vaccine watch as we work to building a better bay area. two of san francisco's largest covid vaccination sites will be closed today due to a lack of vaccine. amy hollyfield has more on this temporary shutdown. good morning. this site was up for about a week here at moscone now they will be temporarily closing. they will also temporarily shut down the site at city college. they will be closed because of a lack of supply. city officials said they ophope to have the city vaccinated by the end of june. at moscone they have the capability to vaccinate 10,000 people a day, but supply has been inconsistent and they need to pause operations.

>> it is really hard to pause operations. none of us want to do it. but it is temporary. we know we will get more vaccine and, you know, it's really -- it does appear to be a supply chain production issue. >> the mayor tweeted her frustration saying that the two locations have been running well for weeks. the only thing holding us back is lack of supply. they says city college should reopen friday to administer second doses and she is hoping for more information about supply in the next few days. this site at moscone they're saying will be closed for at least a week. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. other bay area counties are facing a similar situation. big mass vaccination sites are open but only so many vaccinations can happen with an unpredictable supply. the san mateo event center is by appointment only. the alameda county fairgrounds has been set up as a vaccination site with a goal of about 5,000

shots a day. the number of people vaccinated at this site is far fewer than its capacity. and in santa clara county they're shifting personnel and vaccines from site to site to make sure they're all in operation. >> we move the appropriate number of doses to the various sites to make sure they have a minimal amount of vaccine to keep the operation going. >> there is a bit of good news coming this week. a mass vaccination site is opening at the oakland coliseum tomorrow. they will have access to a different supply pool. the plan is to operate at max capacity on day one. that's 6,000 doses per day. here is the latest look at the pandemic numbers in california. the state just reached a milestone that we have not seen in months. the seven-day positivity rate is at 3.7%. it hasn't been under 4% since

calling to find more votes. trump also said to be angry after seven republican senators voted to convict them. among them, senator bill cassidy, now censured by the louisiana republican party. >> i'm attempting to hold president trump accountable. that's the trust i have from the people that elected me. i'm confident that as time passes people will move to that position. >> while some members of the gop are calling for a new direction for the party, away from trump, the overwhelming majority still support him as they look to take back power on capitol hill in 2022. a new abc news poll shows 14% of republicans believe trump should have been convicted in the impeachment trial. 83% believe the trial should not have happened. faith abubey, abc news, washington. with the impeachment trial over democrats are turning to president biden's agenda. priority number one, the nearly

$2 trillion covid relief plan which includes $1,400 checks for most americans. money to safely reopen schools, hundreds of billions of dollars for state and local governments. the clock is ticking to get a bill on the president's desk. federal unemployment benefits for millions of people will run out in a month. >> we in congress need to move forward with delivering the expanded unemployment checks, the stimulus checks, the reinvestment in our economy that the american people so desper desperately need and deserve. >> republicans say the price tag is too high but democrats have the majority and signaled they will go after it alone if need be. happening right now, a winter weather emergency. dangerous frozen conditions from the southeast to the dakotas. the national weather service says at least 150 million americans are under some kind of ice or winter weather advisory right now. roads are turning into skating rinks and things are particularly bad in texas which saw a deadly 100-car pileup.

happens a couple of times in louisiana during the winter. their houses are not built for it, they're not ready for it. it will be a mess. back at home, we're mild thanks to the storm bringing us the light rain. we have our own conditions out there. light rain falling in the east bay. 50 to 53 degrees. 49 in santa rosa. 46 in vallejo. everyone else in the low to mid 40s. here's a look at what's going on as far as your activity planner today. it will be all based around being wet. especially during the morning and afternoon hours. you can see that cold front as it swipes north to south across our neighborhoods, that's when we'll finally see the rain end. let's time it out. you can see a lot of green showing up all the way during the morning commute. once we get past 9:00, it starts to focus more on the southern half of the bay. by the time we get to the evening commute, it's just about

over. clouds will open up. we'll deal with a lot of fog during the morning commute. rainfall amounts less than 0.15 inches. enough to make it slippery out there. let's get over to francis and find out what's going on with the morning commute. hi, frances. >> definitely slippery out there. we had a half dozen accidents this morning even though traffic is light. i want to show you why. a live shot of interstate 80 making your way through emeryville heading towards the bay bridge where there's a fog advisory across the span and an earlier crash on the lower deck has been cleared. as we head to the south bay, much clearer picture here. headlights are northbound under highway 17. there's an earlier accident blocking the 4th street onra-ra to 280. there's a lot of green out there, there's an injury accident in the north bay, northbound 101 approaching petaluma boulevard south, it may still be blocking lanes.

the los angeles police department is investigating reports that officers circulated a valentine's day photo mocking george floyd. the photo allegedly had floyd's face with the caption "you take my breath away." the department said they have zero tolerance for this type of behavior. floyd was killed last year after derek chauvin handcuffed floyd and put his knee on his neck for several minutes during an arrest. activists in san francisco are calling on city leaders to address the root causes of violence following the recent rash of attacks on asian americans. on sunday, hundreds took a stand for safety by taking part in an anti-violence rally. it happened at civic center family.

see. >> i'm just getting a tune-up today so i can keep up with my kids. they're all up in tahoe with my husband on this valentine's day. i'm getting ready to join them. >> this shop has had so many rentals it had to extend its normal closing time by two hours. stay-at-home restrictions were lifted last month but state officials are still asking pople to stay within 120 miles of their homes. after a slow start things are picking up for the resorts. sugar bowl shared some video and pictures with abc7. look at that fresh snow. these were taken after the latest storm. the typical snow pack for a season is around 500 inches. right now they're at about half of that. due to the pandemic people should not be driving up and expecting to hit the slopes. >> there is no walk-up day-of tickets anymore. you need to plan on the day you're going to come and buy those tickets early. >> something else to consider is capacity at the lodges which is

>> yes. >> let's talk about our liquid precipitati precipitation, it's hugging the ground. that's what happens when the radar is up at 3,800, 4,000 feet. it shoots a straight line when the earth curves, then it just keeps going up and up. we're overshooting the rain. believe me, it's out there. it's just the radar will not show a lot of it because it's under -- look at this. 880 in oakland near the coliseum, you can see how misty and rainy and foggy it is. everything is just damp. it's going to stay that way through the early afternoon hours when it finally tapers. we'll be drier, brighter and breezy tomorrow through wednesday. back-to-back storms will bring us another 1 on the storm impact scale for thursday, friday and saturday. the rain tapering this afternoon. sunshine late. mid to upper 50s around the coast. 59 to 62 in the inland neighborhoods. around the state you can see the

okay. so there were no big crowds, but as you can see there plenty of happy couples eager to show off their marriage certificates. appointments for the socially distanced ceremonies filled up quickly. four-legged friends at a local shelter got extra love on valentine's day, too. the east bay spca held a socially distanced smooches for pooches drive-through event. animal lovers were able to drive up to the shelters in oakland and dublin to wave and see some of the animals up for adoption. the shelter is encouraging adopting to apply online. i want to snatch my little baby up and put him in the car at that time. look how cute. >> i love the pink-colored collar. very in theme. next, the 7 things to know this morning and presidents' day deals. we'll have a look at the best bargains if you're in the mood

here's seven things to know. part of mckeon road is shut down this morning after a crash killed two people overnight. it happened near the collero reservoir. chp is investigating. number two, the city of san francisco is pausing vaccinations at their two largest sites because of a supply shortage. it's temporarily shutting down the moscone and city college locations for now. in the east bay, a mass vaccination site is opening tomorrow at the oakland coliseum. that site is jointly operated by state and federal agencies. they have access to a different supply pool and the goal here is to administer 6,000 doses a day. obamacare is reopening for sign-ups today it's part of a special three-month enrollment period for americans who lost their jobs during the pandemic. the deadline is may 15th. number five. we're under the storm impact scale. especially this morning with periods of rain. up to about 0.15 inches of rain.

see what our monday has in store. hi, mike. >> good morning, kumasi and liz. here's what's going on down in san jose on 87 it looks wet down there. we have a 1 on the storm impact scale. it's a weak cold front that will bring us some periods of rain through the morning and into the early afternoon hours. less than 0.15 inches of rain, the slipperiest conditions will be this morning and to a lesser extent noon and almost nonexistent by the evening commute. nt a lot showing up on live doppler 7. as we return to san jose -- well, we were going to return to san jose, it is wet out there. temperatures are running in the upper 40s to mid 50s. pretty mild out there. rain will be steadiest through the morning commute and taper during the afternoon hours as we try to reach the upper 50s to low 60s. i'll look at future radar coming up next. this morning if you're planning to go to san francisco's new mass vaccination

sites at the moscone center or city college, think again. the sites have temporarily closed and paused vaccinations because of a lack of supply. another mass vaccination site is about to open across the bay. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live this morning with what you need to know about it. good morning. good morning. yeah. just as moscone is shutting down because it's out of vaccines, oakland is about to open a mass vaccination site. that's going to be located at the oakland coliseum. it is set to open tomorrow. it has the capability to vaccinate 6,000 people a day. they will be vaccinating alameda county residents 65 and older, educators and health care workers. they'll have access to a different supply chain than other sites. so that's why they are still able to open tomorrow. officials have also worked out a way to provide public transportation to the site including a shuttle from the coliseum b.a.r.t. station.

now, they have just opened up appointment slots yesterday. they appear to already be booked. if you go to our website, we have the links to the sites you need where you can sign up for vaccine and get on a list and what we keep hearing from everyone is to keep trying, don't give up and stay registered and stay alert and those slots will hopefully open up soon. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. there is growing concern this morning that new covid-19 mutations could cause another spike in cases. this comes as we see infections drop across the country. here is mona kosar abdi. >> reporter: this morning, growing concerns about variants of the coronavirus. the "new york times" reports that doctors have found seven variants of the virus that originated in the u.s.,

spotlighting the ur havengent nr better tracking. >> all these variants had the exact same mutation, that could be a coincidence but could this mean that the virus is getting smarter and adapting? >> reporter: until now scientists have been studying mutations studied in other countries like the south african strain which is more resistant to vaccines and the uk variant which is more con stageotagious more deadly. >> the absolute risk is still low. they compared two groups, so it's still too early to say it's more deadly, but it's certainly more contagious. >> reporter: it comes amid a major drop in overall cases across the country. about 71,000 new infections were reported yesterday compared to last month when the country saw more than 225,000 daily cases. as a result, more states are easing restrictions. in minnesota, dining capacity has been increased to 50%. >> we're extending hours that eating establishments and bars can be open. we're expanding some of those capacities up to 250. >> reporter: in washington

state, gyms and movie theaters are now open in nearly every county. iowa and montana have lifted mask mandates and new york is opening sports arenas. but the head of the cdc is warning americans now is not the time to let our guard down. >> we are nowhere out of the woods, and as you know, if we relax these mitigation strategies with increasing transmissible variants out there, we could be in a much more difficult spot. >> reporter: mona kosar abdi, abc news, new york. look at las vegas, it's coming back to life as covid restrictions loosen across nevada. business capacity limits are moving up to 35%, that includes casinos, bars, gyms and churches. museums and zoos will be able to operate at 50% capacity. nevada is limiting gatherings up to 100 people but the statewide mask mandate is still in place. obamacare is reopening for sign-ups for a special three-month window. it's a new opportunity for americans to get coverage if

they lost their jobs and employer-based health insurance during the pandemic. kaiser estimates this could benefit nearly 9 million people who are uninsured. the enrollment extension will last through may 15th. this comes as the democratic-led congress pushes a boost in financial help that could cut premiums by double digits. now president joe biden will have his first meeting with g7 leaders this week. it will be a virtual event with the world's major economies including canada, france, germany and japan. the white house says the president will speak about the need for a global response to the pandemic. he's also expected to recommit the u.s. to the g7 in stark contrast to the foreign policy strategy of former president trump. the virtual g7 happens on friday. california senator alex padilla is going to have a big role when it comes to immigration issues. he will be the chairman of the senate immigration subcommittee. he is the first latino chair of the senate judiciary

subcommittee. he became the first latino senator from california when he replaced vice president kamala harris. padilla has said immigration is an important issue to him because his parents came to california from mexico. coming up, chevron is facing questions after this oil spill last week. how the city of richmond plans to address it. bay area couples get creative on valentine's day in the time of covid-19. the proposal that brought a crowd of strangers to tears. >> i know. it's so great. i can't wait to share this video. luz pena stumbled across it. first let's check the weather. >> all right. those flowers were gorgeous. let's look at what's going on. it's kind of a gray and dark morning and damp out there right now. a little bit of fog around oakland and berkeley heading down towards alameda. temperatures in the low to mid 50s here. we're in the low to mid 50s everywhere except for santa rosa. always has to be the cool spot.

49 degrees. watch out for mist and fog in the morning. clouds just hovering right above the bay bridge. especially the western span here. as we look from south beach, over the last six hours or so, we had 0.12 inches of rain. caution whether it's the roads, taking a ferry or mass transit for the wet weather especially this morning thanks to this cold front and this 1 on the storm impact scale. here we are as we start at 6:30 and go to 9:30. plenty of green out there. you can see it starts to taper in the north bay for the lunch hour. that tapering heads south as we head into the evening hours. and it looks like it will be pretty dry once the sun starts to set at about 5:45. so, up to about a tenth, maybe 0.15 in our mountains from this system as it rolls through a couple more chances coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. i'll have that. i want to get over to frances who has been talking about the wet weather out there. what are you seeing on your end?

>> the wet weather and the slick roads have caused a few accidents this morning. there's also been some thick fog reported along highway 1 in pacifica and some fog reported across the bay bridge. i'll show you this live shot. it's not looking too bad right now. it was looking thicker on eastbound 80 through emeryville. if you're heading across the bay bridge, it's looking good across the span. an earlier crash on the lower deck has been cleared. much clearer conditions in the south bay. highway 87 traffic is on the right. and the 4th street on-ramp to northbound 280 is still blocked because of a crash. we'll check out the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the winds are blowing but traffic also looking good there. no delays. san mateo bridge right now trouble-free in both directions. mass transit operating on a modified or saturday schedule for ace, b.a.r.t. and caltrain. foi'm morgan, and there's more. nor to me than hiv. more love,... more adventure,... more community. but with my hiv treatment,... there's not more medicines in my pill.

gun violence has left at least 17 people injured in san francisco and oakland over the last three days. victims include six men hurt during a shooting around 1:00 a.m. saturday morning. it happened at 9th and washington streets in the old oakland historic district. this is video of that location. saturday night six people were wounded near 3rd street and cassada avenue in the bayview district. early sunday morning three men were shot at turk and hyde street in the tenderloin. two people were also shot at a hotel friday night at drum and market streets. a man from fresno turned himse e in.
