which had a rod inserted. a shattered foot and ankle held together with screws and pins. >> it's very fortunate that mr. woods was able to come out of this alive. e scene.ter: deputy carlosgoezan he says woods was lucid and calm and his seat belt likely saved his life. >> the nature of his vehicle, the fact that he was wearing a seat belt, i would say it greatly increased the likelihood that it saved his life. >> reporter: deputy gonzalez at first didn't recognize him. >> i asked him what his name was. he said tiger and that's when i recognized him. >> reporter: he was the only person in the vehicle when it crashed tuesday morning south it rolled downhill traveling hundreds of feet. rescuers used an axe to break through the windshield and free woods. >> no skid marks.

documentary details the arc of woods' life from his appearances on tv at a young age to the deep personal struggles he faced. >> he got clean. he got healthy. this is the comeback of all comebacks. >> reporter: as for tuesday's crash, the sheriff in l.a. says there was no sign that woods was impaired. but the sheriff added it appears the vehicle may have been speeding. investigators say they'll look into whether woods was on the phone or was otherwise distracted. coming up in a few minutes, we'll talk to an e.r. doctor about tiger woods' injuries and what his recoveries may be like. protesters in rochester are vowing to return angry after the grand jury decision in the daniel prude killing. hounds marched after it was announced that no charges would be filed against the police officers involved in prude's death. prude died in march, videos showed him naked and pinned to the ground with a hood over his head during a mental health crisis. abc's stephanie ramos was in the middle of the protest last night.
