for joining us. we begin with vaccine watch and the effort to bring vaccinations to farm workers where they work. anser hassan explains how it's critical to stopping the spread and. >> reporter: mario martinez says he was nervous about getting his covid vaccination. did it hurt? >> no, i feel nothing. >> reporter: he is one of 500 farm workers getting vaccinated at this pop-up site at monterey mushrooms in morgan hill. >> i think it's very convenient, very convenient. we come to work and at the same time we get the vaccination. so it's easier for us. >> reporter: santa clara county is now vaccinating farm worker, considered to be essential workers along with teachers. advocates say it's critical to vaccinate farm workers since they've been so hard hit. >> it was a 59% increas in death during the pandemic of these workers. so we know that farm workers are

at a very high risk of death. >> reporter: monterey mushroom ceo says having a pop-up site helps the county maximize its reach, but it also provides a safe place for those hesitant about getting vaccinated. >> you have to extend the process you can have and much more robust vaccination program and get -- by the time we get done, we'll vaccinate a thousand farm workers. >> some of the biggest outbreaks we've had across the country have been in canneries or in fields. >> reporter: supervisor cindy chavez says agriculture is a multibillion business here in santa clara county, and an important part of the food chain in the u.s. she says vaccinating farm workers keeps the industry strong. . there are two issues that we need to remember. one is just basically making sure that people get the healthy food they need. and the other is it's an important part of our economic recovery as well. >> reporter: in morgan hill, anser hassan, abc7 news. new numbers out today by the state show a cedi decrease in

coronavirus cases in california. more than 150 infected people are in the hospital. that number is down by 2,000 since last week. the cdc says just under 15% of all californians have received at least one shot. all while the governor says the state expects to receive about 380,000 doses of the new johnson & johnson vaccine. now all three, the pfizer, moderna and now johnson & johnson vaccine should be available soon. abc7 news reporter mayoral liss parks tells us johnson & johnson is expected to begin shipping out nearly four million doses nationwide in a matter of hours, and they'll be available on tuesday. >> the united states now has a third weapon in the fight against covid-19. johnson & johnson's single shot vaccine receiving emergency use authorization from the fda on saturday. >> we're confident in our finding that the vaccine meets our rigorous standards of safety and effectiveness.

>> reporter: an independent cdc council meeting to review the data, making its health recommendation. ups trucks already lined up at this distribution center outside of louisville ready for the roll-out. 3.9 million doses of johnson & johnson's vaccine ready to ship out. 2.8 million of those to states and local jurisdictions. the rest to pharmacies, community, and federally qualified health centers. >> so this vaccine has been shown to be 100% protective against hospitalizations and death and 85% protective against severe disease for all the variants worldwide. >> reporter: officials are urging americans to get vaccinated, no matter which vaccine is available. >> we believe that people should take the vaccine that they are able to access. we feel all these vaccines meet our standards for effectiveness. >> reporter: as more americans get vaccinated and states begin to ease restrictions, dr. anthony fauci says we still need to take some precautions. >> so you could be protected from disease and still have virus. that's the reason why you hear all the public health officials

for them to be back in. it's safe now. >> last week, oakland unified presented a plan the get pre-k through fifth graders back into school by late march. the union says the plan does not address all of the safety measures needed. both san francisco and santa clara counties are preparing to enter the less restrictive red tier. we are closely following this week's potential announcements with our interactive reopening tracker. you can see how close your county is and what's open when, right now at abc7news.com. former president donald trump took center stage today, saying he is here to stay. trump spoke at the conservative political action conference in orlando, florida almost 40 days after leaving office. it's his first major address since leaving the white house, and he vowed to play a major role in the midterm elections and reassert his influence over the republican party. >> there has never been a journey like it. there has never been a journey so successful.

what a sight in the south bay. sideshows took over many intersections throughout san jose last night. some turned into a cat and mouse game between drivers and san jose police. officers arrested three people on charges of illegally carrying

firearms and made one reckless driving arrest. five vehicles were impounded and 40 other drivers were cited for watching the sideshows. oakland police are conducting similar sideshow stings this weekend. nearly 80 people rallied today against a proposed low-income housing project in san francisco's sunset district. you see one man showed up to challenge the protests and was shouted down. the proposal calls for a seven-story building with 100 low income units. the group says it is inappropriate for the neighborhood and say they are concerned about crime and a lack of parking. city officials, though, say that's not true. >> the unfortunate situation is a group of opponents to the proposed affordable family housing development at 2550 irving have been spreading misinformation that has unfortunately created confusion. >> supervisor gordon mar says he

and the developer will meet with the community before the project is submitted to the city. well, the bay area still has some of the highest rent prices in the country, despite taking a hit from the pandemic. a new report from zumper shows the median price for a one-bedroom in san francisco at $2650. that is the most expensive in the country. san jose is third and is actually seen its median price go up which hasn't happened since the beginning of last year. and oakland is fifth on the list with a one bedroom renting for $2,000 a month. happening tonight, highway 101 on the peninsula is closing for several hours. southbound 101 from south airport boulevard in south city to sfo will close at 11:00 through 4:00 a.m. for the next three nights. drivers will be detoured off the freeway. caltrans is removing four sign bridges from the freeway and a two-night closure of northbound 101 in the area is planned for letter on this week.

to the north bay now, where a family is putting their home up for sale and tomorrow will hit the road in a trailer, searching the entire united states for a new place to live. the holt family has called healdsburg home for several years now, but one reason they're leaving is to find more space at an affordable price. so they're going to explore 48 states in over six months.

>> it wasn't always a monetary driving thing, but we do want more space, and that seems like how we're going accomplish it. we do love it here. we do love it in sonoma county, and we've been here, and we just -- we're feeling led that there is just a little bit more for us out there. >> it will be fun to travel with them on their journey virtually. the entire family is leaving including their four children. in an effort to make streets a little safer for bicyclists is officially off and rolling in one san francisco neighborhood. abc7 news was at the intersection of alemany boulevard and san bruno where there are now protected bike lanes. that means there are special striping and green boxes on the pavement for designated bike zones. lanes have also been reduced at alemany to make it safer for people to get between the portal and bernal neighborhoods. spacewalking astronauts today installed frames for new solar panels outside the international space station.

nasa's kate rubins and victor glover emerged from the lab, lugging eight-foot bags stuffed with hundreds of pounds of mounting brackets and struts. the panels will expected to boost the station's electrical capacity there is a bay area connection to all of this. rubens was raised in napa and studied at stanford. all right. getting to our weekend weather. drew tuma joining us. maybe with your dog dapper this time? >> you know, i've been working from home for almost a year, and he's always been so great. but right now we've been playing a little bit this evening. he wants to play. but right now he is chilling right next to me. he is kind of taking a nap right now. we'll see if he make answer appearance in the next three minutes while we talk about this amazing forecast we have that does include rain finally in the seven-day. this weekend if you were out and about, it was a gorgeous finish to february. we had tons of sunshine, really mild temperatures. to sutro tower, the sun has gone

down. that post sunset glow on the city. currently it's 58 in the city. oakland is at 61. san jose right now is at 62 degrees. 61 in morgan hill. half moon bay is at 54 degrees. equally as beautiful in the south bay. san jose, clear skies overhead. it feels very comfortable out there right now. 62 in santa rosa. down to 59 in novato. 63 in concord. 59 that current temperature in livermore. but a stunning end to the sunday from our east bay hills camera. the post sunset glow over the entire bay area sparkling right now. here is the forecast features. march does begin tomorrow, and it will be a mild start to the new month. for much of the week ahead, it's a pretty consistent sunny, dry pattern, but that will change by the end of the week into the upcoming weekend next weekend. that's when we do expect our next chance of some rain. tonight, though, it's dry. we have clear skies. that moon will also shine bright in our sky overnight tonight.

mid 30s in our coldest spots from napa to santa rosa. low to mid-40s around the bay shoreline. 44 in oakland. dropping to 45 in the city. 43 in san jose. a little cooler in livermore and concord, dropping to 39 degrees. it's a cool start to the day. tomorrow, though, just as nice as today was. but when we talk about the new month ahead, march, we certainly do get rain in the month of march. you see we average anywhere from about 2 to as much as 5 inches of rain over the next month ahead. we'll start out dry tomorrow. by the end of the week, we'll add some rain to the forecast. so tomorrow, a lot of sunshine out there. temperatures in the 60s, which is again, this is above normal for this time of the year. typically we're in the upper 50s. 64 in san francisco. 68 in oakland and san jose. 66 in santa rosa. 69 and sunny the high in concord. future weather. let's get you to our next storm. fast forward into friday. that storm is approaching california. we'll add some showers in the forecast friday night.

but looks like saturday as when we'll see most of the rain with this storm as it moves onshore crossing through california. so here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. tomorrow is a march beauty, tons of sunshine, mild temperatures. we'll keep that pattern midweek and we'll flip the script. by friday night into saturday, we'll bring back showers into the forecast. we'll cool off into the mid-50s to low 60s. now abc7 sports with chris alvarez. >> including tonight, just three games remain on the first half of the schedule for the warriors. golden state going to find out a lot about their team in the next several weeks. the warriors are in l.a. and in portland and then phoenix. interim play tonight, the warriors 19-15 overall and seventh place in the western conference. draymond green coming off a career high 19 assists in friday's win over charlotte. here is coach kerr on dra's journey this season. >> where he had to start with no training camp because of covid

protocols. and where he is now is really amazing in about two and a half months, i guess. he is just playing at such a high level now. and when he first started the season, he just didn't have the conditioning or the timing that he needed. so it took him some time, but he has really worked hard to get to this point. he is having a fantastic year for us. let's hit the college hoops. senior day for the cardinal women hosting cal. the bears got their first win of the year last week. delislia daniel, 11 for the bears. down to six at the break. midway through the third quarter, stanford pulling away. senior anna wilson, what a great pass to lexy hull for the layup. cardinal up 13 and the lead kept growing. stanford outscored cal 27-2 in the third quarter. kiana williams another senior the steal and the score. she had 12. stanford wins 72-33. the cardinal end on a win stream. the pac-12 women's tournament starts wednesday in las vegas.

and for the first time in 2021 we have baseball highlights. the cactus league scheduled opening of today. a's take on the dodgers. there are some dodger fans, kids rolling around the outfield grass. and the a's outfielders, they have arms, right? here is right fielder buddy reed with a rocket to austin allen, and you are out, matt beatty. nice play there. the wind noticeable in arizona. 1-1 in the seventh. matt davidson to left and the a's would fall 2-1. how the giants hosting the angels in scottsdale. welcome back, buster posey, in his first game action since the end of 2019. he was 1 for 1 with a run and a walk. two batters later, two on for wilmer flores. deep drive to right, stays in the yard. goes off the wall. posey is going to score easily, rbi double that made it a 4-1 game. buster just happy to be back. >> yeah, it felt good to be back. it was a game i loved to play since i was a kid. just being able to get out and

compete and be on the field was great. usually on opener around here, it's pretty close to a sellout. watching the games on tv last year, seeing just cardboard fans in stands, it was nice to see a lot of humans out there. final round of the wgc-workday championship. pga players wearing tiger woods's traditional sunday red in his honor. collin morikawa with a two-shot lead. he birdied to take the lead again. this birdie on 12 right here coming up. gets into 18 under, and a two-shot lead. he would finish the day with 6 straight pars, and here on 18, he is going to seal the deal. three-shot victory for morikawa, the first win since taking the pga championship at harding park last summer. he becomes the second player to win a wgc event and a major before turning 25. the other? that's tiger woods. an emotional and thankful morikawa afterwards. >> tiger means everything to me. and yes, he had the crash, and
