state fell short of expectations. the county is working to ensure people are able to get their second dose of the moderna vaccine on time. >> that may impact the amount of first vaccine appointments we can make at this point. we're still working on those numbers. we're talking to the state to see if we can get additional vaccine. >> reporter: community health clinics are ramping up efforts to reach areas disproportionately hit by the virus. >> it is very important for us to work a lot on prevention and to work a lot on health education. >> reporter: this afternoon the council general of mexico in san jose announced a new alliance by opening a health resource center inside the consulate where the public can go to ask questions and schedule an >> one stop shop.

>> reporter: the latino community accounts for half of the cases. the new partnership is essential. >> hopefully our neighbors will refer each other to the council. just like they do with any other referral they trust. >> reporter: while the uncertainty over the vaccine supply chain continues to loom, health officials say it won't deter them from trying to move forward. in san jose, chris wynn. 60,000 vaccine doses will be coming to sutter health over the next couple weeks. blue shield finalized a plan today. stephanie sierra is digging in to the time line. >> 30,000 doses are set to arrive across the bay area and parts of sacramento by tuesday e other 30,000 will arrive the following week. but it is still not nearly enough to meet the demand. in fact, 30,000 sutter health

patients will still lose their second dose appointments that were scheduled up until march 9th. blue shield finalized the plan a day after the health care giant announced they spent four weeks trying to request more vaccine from the state. still awaiting guidance about changes to their dose allotment. santa clara county is in a similar situation, reporting a significant cut in their vaccine supply for next week. now, despite the lack of transparency so far, blue shield says they are confident there won't be any further delays, but several local officials expect it will only get more challenging. we'll explain why coming up at 6:00. stephanie sierra, abc 7 news. >> stephanie, thank you. california is once again changing its vaccine distribution plan. this time to put a greater emphasis on closing the equity gap for where toess are going. the state will send 40% of doses to zip codes most vulnerable to

the pandemic. the state is using metrics such as household income, education level, housing status to determine which areas of the state will get those allotments. the governor says it is crucial to fix equity gaps in distribution. >> you can't safely open your economy until we get this disease behind us. we can't honestly do that unless we address the communities disproportionately vulnerable. >> reporter: the state's seven day positivity rate has dropped to 7%. california lawmakers approved a $6.6 billion plan aimed at pressuring school districts to return students to the classroom. the bill does not order school districts to resume in person instruction. however, it does dangle $2 billion before cash strapped school boards, offering them a share of that money only if they offer in person instruction by the end of the month. the bill does not say how much time students need to spend in

the classroom in order to get some of that money. school districts have until may 15th to decide. california teachers were given vaccine priority at two sites today. one at the oakland coliseum. the other in southern california. some teachers say they had been unsuccessful so far signing up for the vaccine, but today turned out to be easy. >> these are teachers after all. they like to say easy pieceey p. all they had to do was get a code from their school district, sign up on the internet and show up. as teachers walked this tunnel, a light at the end came in the form of a vaccine. >> i feel liberated. i can do more. i can go back to work. >> reporter: today priority was given to school custodians, cafeteria workers, teachers and

principals from all over the bay area. the invitation is extended until tomorrow as promised by governor gavin newsom, getting the code became surprisingly easy. >> they gave us a special code. i tried with the previous code and i was like, no, there was no appointments. i typed that code in and i was -- everything opened up. >> reporter: some got to the coliseum on bart and arrived at the walk-in gate. >> i'm glad they're opening it up and getting us in there and i hope everybody else does it, too. >> reporter: but most opted to drive in. inside fema supervised the delivery of the vaccine. in most cases, the waiting time it was less than an hour. >> i've lost close people to the virus. so i just wanted to get out there and show the vaccine is safe and just do my part and be an example to the community. >> reporter: a new educators and staff have been going to this center. more than 2,500 coats were given out to public school staff and

teachers. that district is expected to send out another 1,500 codes tomorrow. the codes are being given out to so-called priority staff who will be working at those elementary schools and early education sites that have been given permission to reopen. now, if you are going tomorrow to the oakland coliseum, i want to point something out. very important. a few people were being dropped off today at the main entrance at 66th street thinking that they could just walk in. i'm here to tell you that you can't. if you do that, it is a long way from that entrance to the walk-in gate across the street from the bart coliseum station. middle age 66th all the way to the bart coliseum. i saw people being dropped off and then having to call a lyft or uber. so please don't make that mistake. abc 7 news. >> that's great information. thank you. if you're getting frustrated over the vaccine roll-out and

having your place in line shift because of changing rules, you're certainly not alone. a number of people who want the vaccine are feeling some sense of vaccine envy. leslie talked with people about that in the east bay. >> it's frustrating that we kind of feel like we have gotten the short end of the stick during this whole situation. >> reporter: the owners of las palmas barbershop said for months they were deemed too dangerous to stay open. now they aren't essential enough to get a vaccine. >> it's frustrating because we don't know how long the wait might be to receive the vaccine. it would be weeks, months or who knows how long. >> you know, we called the customer, and they say because we not vaccine, so they don't want to come in yet. >> reporter: this nail salon says they can't build their customer base back up without a vaccine. >> yeah. i think it's kind of frustrating for the younger generation because i really want to go with my life again. >> reporter: for some people, social media can trigger

jealousy or anger that they haven't been selected to get the vaccine yet. >> it's incredibly stressful for people, and it brings up a lot of anxiety of when is it going to happen for me. oh, i thought it was supposed to happen for me already. you know, it's -- i think it can be even a little traumatic for people. >> i'm not envious at all. i think those who need it the most, senior citizens and those with health problems should get it first. and i could still wait a couple more months if i have to. >> i guess i'm infinitely patient. i feel like i'm in a safe age group. i was happy to hear that my parents got theirs. >> reporter: to cope simply accept the lack of control. >> have stomach september tans that this is not going to go smoothly. there are too many variables at play. >> reporter: in the east bay, leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. abc 7 news is monitoring the covid vaccine roll-out in california closely. we show you when you might be able to get the vaccine

yourself. you can find this on our home page of our website abc7news. abc7news.com. a week after youth sports were allowed to resume, indoor sports will now be allowed as well. it is part of a settlement to a san diego county lawsuit. the county must have fewer than 14 cases per 100,000 residents. counties and districts can opt out and not allow sports to resume. athletes will be continuously tested. >> you can either do daily antigen testing or periodic pcr testing. the testing has to be achieved within 48 hours before a competition. >> masks will be required for coaches and players on the c have four family members in attendance at games. new sports guidelines soon. more to come here as san francisco begins to reopen. the tourism industry is hoping that visitors come back. the effort to get support from

as you know, san francisco is in red tier status now. the hope is it could move to the less restrictive orange tier later this month, opening a door to reviving the tourism industry and boosting the economy. abc 7 news reporter david lui looks at the hope for a long-term recovery. >> it's a picture perfect day in the city making it perfect. many are reopening and coming back to life. what's missing are visitors. >> there is a window of opportunity before we turn back

to a full capacity experience that people can really experience san francisco in a much quieter, much more intimate level. >> reporter: it may take longer to get tourists to feel comfortable about flying here across the country. the focus is a local and regional west coast visitors. >> it will be mainly leisure travelers. people traveling for vacations. people who have been cooped up for the last 12 months and they want to get outside and do something, go to a restaurant, go to an attraction, go to a park. >> reporter: the pandemic hit the tourism economy hard. tourists spending of $9.6 billion dropped 67% last year. but could see a modest comeback this year if visitor numbers improve. so far the state has not issued guidelines about rebooting the $66 billion meetings and convention sector. a coalition of 134 tourism and labor groups sent a letter thursday to governor newsom saying the lack of a blueprint putting 460,000 related jobs in

peril. at the national level, there is talk of a vaccination passport so travelers can verify they have been inoculated. >> there are 42 different systems out there and how they could all work together is important. >> that people could feel comfortable about traveling. know that everybody on the airplane is on the motor coach or cruise ship or whatever is fully vaccinated. >> reporter: david lui, abc 7 news. even doctors are reporting they would feel safe enough to travel by summer with a few precautions. >> these vaccines are highly effective against disease, particularly severe disease. that changes the math about what we're willing to do. good morning america talks to six different infectious disease experts about how safe it would be to travel this summer. all the doctors said they would feel safe on a plane while vaccinated and wearing a mask. infectious disease specialist

surf along our coastline right now with the coastal advisory. rain tomorrow evening. likely for most of us it comes after the sun comes down tomorrow evening into saturday morning. much of the daylight is dry but more rain is coming our way next week. here is that beach hazard statement until 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. 8 to 11 feet will bring some energetic sneaker waves and the rest of some rip currents. temperatures a little warmer today compared to yesterday. we got into the upper 50s to upper 60s for afternoon highs and our warmest spots right now sit in the 60s. overnight tonight, we'll call it mainly clear skies out there. numbers upper 30s to mid-40s for your overnight lows. here is live doppler 7. you can see our storm. it is already moving on shore in the pacific northwest bringing rain to seattle and portland. i know it looks like it's close to us, but it is crawling right now. it will take 24 hours before we

see rain in the bay area. tomorrow, much of the day it's dry. you will find increasing clouds throughout the day. numbers mainly in the 60s. once the sun goes down, the rain comes back. tomorrow night into early saturday morning, it's a level one light storm. light to moderate rain creating slick roads, and it will be breezy from time to time. hour by hour we go. friday at 7:00 a.m., you can see the rain is just beginning to enter the north bay. as we approach 11:00 p.m., that rain slides south. moving through san francisco, the east bay. after midnight it moves into the south bay. so by 1:00 a.m. saturday morning, that is where the rain is really focussed. the sun gets up here on saturday. the rain is out of here and much of saturday is bright and dry. rain fall estimates, again, it is not a block bluster storm. but most of us, anywhere from a 10th to a third of an inch of rain fall with this storm.

compatibility issues with older devices because different generations of wifi are designed to communicate with each other. >> because wifi 6 routers are more efficient, your older routers may see better performance. consider the net gear night hawk mesh 6. consumer report says it's easy to set up and does an excellent job of sending out the wifi signal. since a lot of upcoming tech is expected to be wifi 6 certified, updating your router now is like future proofing your home network and it just might stop your kids from complaining. if you check with your internet service provider to see if it offers a wifi 6 upgrade, be sure to ask if the total cost could increase. you might also want to think about just buying a router. they tend to be pretty cheap
