in-person learning. >> reporter: she says it starts april 12th beginning with preschool through second grade students at about a dozen schools. >> it is great they finally actually set a date. it is what a lot of parents in the community have been desperately asking the school district to do. >> reporter: he is one of many parents who rallied for schools to reopen. he says remote learning has been a failure for his two sons, 8 and 14. >> but, y keeaers an't>>epteret plan which includes health and safety protocols and vaccinations for school staff. >> every morning before anybody comes into the building there will be a health screening and then ventilation measures as well. so all of those layers of protection, and including most recently and most significantly vaccinations for us. >> reporter: the tentative agreement comes after months of bitter debate over how and when students would return to the classroom, including a lawsuit by the city over reopening, supported by mayor london breed. >> you know, the grown ups need

format. teachers are guaranteed access to the covid-19 vaccine prior to returning to the classroom. a year online means a year off track, but there are solutions for struggling students. better ways for your kids to catch up and confront learning loss all next week on "abc 7 news". san francisco art museums are reopening for the first time since november 28th. sf moma and the de young both opened today, bringing a sense of culture back to the city. for now the museums will limit capacity to 25% as required under the state's red tier assignment. staff at both museums told us they are thrilled to be able to reopen their doors. >> safety of our staff and our visitors is extremely important, and here, of course, we wear masks. >> very excited to have people back in the building, the energy feels great. we have worked really hard to make sure that our safety protocols are in compliance. >> keep in mind reservations are

recommended at masks will be to. san jose's fairmont hotel temporarily closed down friday after the owner filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. a representative for the hotel says the few remaining guests are now staying at nearby hotels and that includes the las vegas golden knights hockey team that was in town to play the sharks. the fairmont is only being closed for a few months while the owner looks for a partner to rebrand the hotel and extend the mortgage. to developing news in washington where the senate passed a nearly $2 trillion covid relief bill after more than 24 hours of debate. it is now going to the house, which will vote on it next week, and abc news reporter elizabeth schulze tells us the package provides all kinds of aid including for schools, y. >> ihe way. today i can say we've taken one

more giant step forward in delivering on that promise. >> the senate has passed the $1.9 trillion coachvid relief b capping off a marathon overnigt session. >> the pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of american life, so this bill spans the gamut and provides support to every part of our country. >> the bill as amended is passed. >> reporter: the chamber passing thel in a 50-49 vote along party lines. senate minority leader mitch mcconnell calling the bill haphazard. >> you get this massive bill with only 1%, 1% for vaccinations. that ignores the science on reopening schools that is stuffed with non-covid related spending that even top liberal economists say is wrong for the recovery. >> reporter: moderate democrats, led by senator joe manchin of west virginia, winning key changes to the house version of the bill. house democrats wanted to

increase those unemployment benefits to $400 a week. manchin pushing a smaller proposal. a final deal was reached to keep benefits at $300 a week guaranteed through september 6th. those $1,400 payments will now go to individuals making less than $75,000 a year with smaller checks for those making up to $80,000. couples earning up to $150,000 will get $2,800 checks with a reduced payment for those making up to $160,000. still, some americans wonder if it will be enough. >> if we get fuel this week and stay warm and not freeze to death or do you get food? >> reporter: the legislation heads back to the house which will have to reconcile several key changes before it goes to president biden's desk for his signature just days before unemployment benefits expire for millions of americans. elizabeth schulze, abc news, washington. community partners in t u t

hope community church. the focus is on vaccinating black seniors and essential workers. the ucsf doctor who helped organize today's event says it is critical for racial and ethnic minorities to get vaccinated, especially in alameda county. >> if it weren't important the governor would not have set aside 40 million vaccines for the hardest hit populations. the reason it is important for everybody to get vaccinated though is because with each ac ityecomes safer. >> people who were vaccinated at this site today will return in four weeks to get their second dose of the moderna shot. new developments now. an italian prosecutor is calling for two bay area men to be sentenced to life in sentence. finigan, the elder of san francisco, and gabriel christian natalio of the bay area are charged with killing a police officer in rome. elder claimed it was a case of self-defense, not murder. he says they failed to defend themselves before gra the on the strt. th defse will make its case march 18th. a plastic surgeon in california who faces criticism for attending a traffic court zoom while performing surgery is defending himself. dr. scott green was doing a face lift when he answered a call from sacramento traffic court

for a hearing about a speeding ticket. green says he joined the zoom and handed over the case to another surgeon whom he was training. >> this is our last case. we were about halfway through it, through all of the critical parts. to me taking a call in the o.r. is something that occurs all the time, not a zoom call to traffic court as i have never been to traffic court. >> other doctors also say taking calls or leaving the o.r. is common when there is another surgeon there. court staff called off the hearing when they saw green in the operating room. he ended up paying that ticket. a dog had to be rescued last night at fort fund sten in san francisco. the fire department climbed down to get the labrador that had gone off the cliff. the dog was fine, thankfully, but firefighters do say it is a odemor people t k thr ping wn bay area familiest's trying to

dozens of people put on their gloves and got to work this morning to help beautify san jose. these are all volunteers who signed up online for one of the city's cleanup days. they picked weeds and spread mulch at two city parks, and if it is something you would like to do the city has three more saturday cleanup days this month. with plans underway to reopen schools, a bay area volunteer group is helping students get prepared to return to the classroom. the nonprofit olive tree gifts is assembling school care

packages. olive tree gifts previously created care packages for frontline workers and women's shelters. a group of volunteers in concord puts the kits together. a member of the group shared why she is involved. >> spreading more love, spreading more peace to the community, especially during these difficult times. like even pre-pandemic i think there's a lot of difficulties that people go through every single day, so we just want to be there for them. >> yeah, i love that show of support. the care packages will go to schools in vacaville. they include school supplies, some calming tea for parents and a plant or a flower because the group believes that nature is the universal symbol of peace. well, check this out. a pretty good storm rolled through the bay area late last night bringing rain and some high winds. it packed enough of a punch to topple some trees in san francisco and on one treat it looked like a tree just mis weaw drew, the rain led up to some pretty good weather. sunny and kind of warm out

there. >> yes, that's storm, those winds combined with that brief, heavy rain last night kind of cleansed our atmosphere of some of the pollen. our air quality today was good. we had really clear skies, it was bright and blue out there. live doppler 7 this evening showing you any wet weather we had last night, it is long gone. bay shoreline, anywhere from ae about .1 to a quarter of an inch of rain, higher amounts in the north bay where the storm lingered longer. as you head inland from antioch to livermore, much less as the storm kind of fizzled out as it moved south and to the east. our emeryville camera right now, a live look, nothing but sunshine. you can see just a couple of clouds on the horizon, but all in all it is clear out there. numbers right now in the wake of the storm today certainly felt cooler than yesterday. it is 52 in the city. 59 in oakland right now. 60 in mountain view. upper 50s in san jose and morgan hill. it is chilly on the coast, 50

degrees in half moon bay. but that's not stopping people from going to santa cruz right now. a live look at a lot of folks on the sand, even a few brave souls putting their feet in that chilly water. that ocean water temperature right now is at 51 degrees. temperatures from santa rosa to novato to napa in the mid to upper 50s. warmer in fairfield at 55. livermore at 57 degrees. tonight with clear skies, really calm winds, that's a recipe for cold temperatures. a lot of 30s on the board from half moon bay to redwood city, livermore, concord, santa rosa, napa, will all settle in the 30s. it is certainly a chilly start to the day tomorrow. we do have a frost advisory and a freeze warning from middletown, clear lake, ukiah, points to the north, starting at midnight tonight where we will find overnight lows in upper 20s to lower 30s. if you have sensitive vegetation outside you might want to cover it or bring it inside. tomorrow after the chilly start we will get temperatures in the

santa cruz oveime. fosend a den vi last a big 24-hour span for las vegas. as you heard in the newscast, san jose's fairmont hotel temporarily closed down yesterday. the golden knights were actually staying in that hotel so they're forced to switch on the fly. las vegas is led by former sharks head coach peter deboer. he talked about the entire situation ahead of tonight's 7:30 puck drop. >> we ate pregame meal yesterday prior to the game and then got notified that our hotel was closing and we were going to have to check out. so we had to check into a new hotel. it was a surreal experience. hopefully this is the end of the covid year, but it was almost the topping on the top of the cake for what the past year has been. >> and, hey, did you see ts?
