health conditions like cancer and heart conditions. essentially any individual whose health is deemed to be at risk by a health care provider could qualify. >> if your health care provider says you are eligible for the vaccine we will be complying with that order. >> the state says that the vaccine won't be available for a majority of the people making appointments on monday. the state says it is administering 11 to 2 million doses per week going up to 4 million soon. >> today on getting answers the director of the california department of public health talked about the state's vaccination plan going forward. >> before president biden's announcement we were go to move to a pure age-based approach going down each age because that is the quickest and easiest way to vaccinate folks.

game. >> this is as close to normal as possible. these kids have gone without for 12 months. they have lost, lost, things were taken away. tonight is a celebration of getting stuff back. >> we get our temperature taken and fill out a questionnaire. we are socially distanced when we are not in formation and not stunting. it is my senior year and i wish i was back at school with my friends. >> it is really fun having people to support you and just having everyone around you, motivating you to keep going and getting stuff done. >> it is important for the mental side of the student, and also community. our communities have not had events like this for 12 months. >> my senior is on the field.

my husband is a coach. but my husband and i went to half moon bay high school. i have noticed a complete difference in my son in the last three weeks. at the dinner table, he is talking about football. he is talking about his teammates. he is still in remote learning. this is his deck. >> i am tristan hoffman. this is our senior year. we get what we can get. six games is good enough for us. anything is good enough. i am really stoked. >> you are the -- >> it has been a big morale isore than football. >> it is about life lessons, camaraderie and spending time with friends. the difference that i see in the way they carry themselves and the way that their confidence and personalities. everybody has more pep in their step. everybody is more excited just about life in general.

>> all week long we are examining the learning loss with distance learning. it is a given when students return to school that it will be a challenge to make up for all of the lost time in class. here is a look how one district plans to make up for the loss of in-person learning. >> reporter: when covid-19 forced schools to close last march, school districts provided all of the services offered in a normal school year.

add to that thousands of chromebooks and technical support beyond anyone's predictions and now a year later the road to academic recovery will exceed what districts already have spent. earlier this year the nonprofit education resource strategies analyzed the cost of covid. >> we are not going to make it all up in one year. this is a multiyear challenge in terms of doing this. you know, somewhere between three to five years. >> reporter: the nonprofit which studies big urban districts like san francisco is suggesting two approaches to deal with the learning loss. small group tutoring or extended learning time, meaning adding an extra month of school or extending the school day. they estimate adding an extra month would represent a 7% increase in annual operating cost and san francisco unified

already faces a budget deficit. >> leave it to public school moms to get it together and get the ball rolling. >> reporter: san francisco's board of supervisors just approved r.i.s.e., recovery with inclusive and successful enrichment, hoping to create a plan and generate funding to address the covid learning loss, add more enrichment programs and attract additional kids to public schools. $2.5 billion over five years. >> we will be looking to our own general fund and to the state and feds with all of the packages coming down. >> reporter: a ballot measure for funding from san francisco residents, despite the urgency, she is as planning time was lost because the school board was busy renaming schools and changing lowell high school's

admission policy. >> i am extremely frustrated because all of the delays had to do with all of the drama that we have seen in the school district. >> reporter: the board of supervisors proposes an initiative called summer play to give kids in san francisco access to extracurricular activities in the summer. in addition the school district will come up with their own summer instruction plans. >> we are working hard to plan for other opportunities, targeting our elementary students, those that couldn't or didn't engage in distance learning. >> reporter: and the key education experts say is to do it quickly, because the further behind they are, the harder that it is to catch up. >> in the meantime san francisco unified continues to do assessments online. teachers will sit down with them to get a better sense of where students are in some of the core subjects. in the newsroom, lyann

have the extra daylight. this looks impressive but will not bring us a lot of rain, stall or sit over us for a few days like the last one. tomorrows, 40s, 50s. here is a look at the morning lows. the low 30s to the upper 40s. right near the coast and the bay as we head into the afternoon hours. temperatures in the 50s and the 60s. breezy near the coast line. that is what helps drop the temperatures. a level 1 going in to monday. that will bring us rain initially. showers. gusty conditions. on monday we are tracking the thunder with hail, snow, down over 2,000 feet over the peaks. maybe even lower. just keep that in mind. sunday afternoon, 3:00 the rain is moving in and spreads by evening. sierra will see snow out of this. pink indicating a wintry mix

over mt. hamilton. hills. that is certainly something that could potentially be a repeat of the last event which is a bit wintry compared to what we typically see with the spring-like storms. rainfall totals look like this. most in the third of an inch. some spots could pick up a half inch of rain. weekend, cooler but nice and dry. set your clocks forward one hour. by sunday evening, the storm will bring us showers, cold system monday, a chance of thunder, dry and milder mid-week, st. patrick's day and another storm looks to greet us on thursday. keep the umbrelace close by.
