building a better bay area for a safe and secure future. this is abc7 news . it can be a struggle a little bit, but seeing your friends and being outside is something that keeps me sane and keeps me happy. the entire bay area in thar red and many say it is a long time in coming. it is sunday, may 14th. . let's go look at the rain. looking at doppler seven and the cold front hitting the northern part of our state. it will move into the bay area.

we are mostly under cloudy skies with temperatures in the 40s. the winds will pick up as the front moves through with the wet weather. rainy and windy in the north bay and then it spread south across the peninsula and toward the east bay and south bay. you will notice sunset at 7:16 because of daylight saving. chris. as we start the day entire bay area taking a path toward normalcy. contra costa and sonoma counties joined the rest of the bay area and going from the restricted purple tear to red. this gives businesses the lift they have been waiting for for months. and we work together to building a better bay area. this morning matt boone leads us off from sonoma county. your joining the rest of the

bay area in the red tear after some of the harshest restrictions in the state. tony is a former pro player turned winemaker at three fast guys. he has watched many local businesses suffer. >> it's a struggle to make ends meet. is it even worth it to keep the doors open? that is the question. >> many restaurants have not had indoor dining since june. >> the goalposts keep changing and that makes it challenging. >> reporter: despite his discouragements, he is encouraged to reopen even though he will need to hire staff and make it ready. >> reporter: once we get to 50% endorse, we'll have more

>> reporter: the required breweries to offer food in order to reopen. what help them stay open was a food truck. >> we are doing this as a team and for the last seven months, a fock and we relied on we had them to be here. and michael feels the same way. they could do it without us but i don't know if we could do it without them. >> alameda county and the red tear which means breweries can open outdoor only. and there are 90 minute time limits per table. the business has to close by 8:00 p.m.. all of the changes in the tears inspire them to come up with a new beer. >> we released a beer call >>theyall work together to stay afloat.

with high risk conditions will not be required to provide documentation to verify their diagnosis. appointments could become tough to come by until supply ra . on the one-year anniversary of schools being shut down, the san francisco teacher's union has a plan to return to in person learning with increasing distance. they march from alamo square to civic center plaza where families demanded all schools reopen full-time immediately. they plan to return students in kindergarten through fifth grade in person by april 12. parents say that kids of all ages in middle first middle school through high school need to come out of isolation. >> we should not be afraid to come back for public health reasons. the cdc and the san francisco all in agreement lic pu that it is safe for children to

be in the classroom. >> reporter: the mayor talked about the opportunities being offered to students this summer to help them get back on track. >> we have a large donation and other folks from the private sector who are willing to provide help and support so that we can serve 25,000 up to 35,000 kids. we are looking for more support to do that. >> reporter: the mayor says she expects all teachers and staff will be vaccinated to get the schools open again. the sf mta is looking to get schools reopen with trains. intransito reintroduce the school trippers program and for high school students after school hours.

pulled out a knife and advanced toward hall. hall fired his weapon. wilson is in critical condition at the hospital. hall is now on paid administrative leave per department policy. hall so also shot and killed another man in november of 2018. police say that he led officers on a chase and steered his vehicle toward the officer. witnesses, at the time, disputed that from police >> we are feeling the hate and the hurt and so we want to show our strength and solidarity. >> reporter: fighting for race and social justice as part of building a better bay area is the commitment we have made to you. soy, g and a violence against asian a cornell bernard has more on the call for unity.

choose to look at the hope in our community. >> reporter: in san jose, cornell bernard, abc7 news. earlier this past week , a 75-year-old man robbed while on his morning walk. there was another rally held in chinatown last week where community members spoke out against a crime bill, sb 82 authored by nancy skinner. they say it would lessen the punishment for these types of crimes. >> it would be including the asian community. by changing the robbery and petty theft if the victim is not seriously hurt. >> reporter: sb 82 would not

we are looking south toward the bay bridge in san francisco. we have clouds during the morning hours and rain this afternoon. it is cooler in the north bay and milder compared to yesterday . 45 at santa rosa and napa at 50. concorde at 51. temperatures milder because of the cloud cover. we will rank this storm at a 1 out of five. a light storm starts this afternoon and will be heavy to moderate at times. it continues into tomorrow when it turns to scattered showers. the winds pick up this afternoon as the rain moves through. they will be coming from the south and then as the front moves through, they will come from the northwest. tomorrow is the best chance of under and hail as instability continues. we may even see snow look at the forecast animation. by lunchtime, we are still

san francisco zoo is celebrating a special birthday this weekend. the ring tailed lemur just turned 22 years old on saturday . you may remember he was stolen out of his exhibit in october. the zoo was worried that he would not survive due to his old age that he was eventually found in daly city by an alert five-year-old boy. one last look at the weather and frances you have been here all morning long tracking the forecast. by 6:00 this evening, we will have widespread rain as it moves through the bay area. turning to scattered showers for monday. temperatures on the cool side and in the 50s for the most part. near 60 in some inland areas. storms possible on monday because of these cold systems.
