the last two bay area counties move into the red tier of the ststrictive lel. with that we say good evening and thank you for joining us. here is a quick look at what that your change means. to qualify for the red tier, counties can have a maximum of 4 to 10 daily new covert cases per 100,000 residents. malls and retail stores can open indoors at 50 percent capacity and in addition, salons and spas are allowed to have customers inside with modifications. restaurants and movie theaters can open indoors at 25 percent capacity and that also includes places of worship and museums. gyms can also allow people to work out inside at 10 percent capacity. the move is a lifeline for some businesses on the brink. we focus on economic issues as part of our effort to help build a better a bay area. our reporter joined us once again live in sonoma which partially reopen today after seven months under the tightest restrictions. so there is a

reason for optimism now. >> we have seen it all day, lots of optimism in sonoma and contra costa counties as they take that step forward into the red tier. cocktails are being mixed b&b whiskey bar in the sonoma town square, a move to the red tier means customers can eat and drink inside limited capacity. >> i am encouraged with people getting vaccinated and people feeling more comfortable eating up. >> reporter: the historic theater is almost ready for its close-up after being closed for one year. the manager will now be allowed to start showing movies with a 25 percent capacity audience. >> everybody missed coming to the theater and movies big screen so we are real excited about that. >> reporter: sonoma county has faced some of the harshest restrictions in the state as covert rates spiked and but those numbers are improving.

got to talk about where the rain is sitting now. >> it's really cold storm we have moving through, a cold front bringing rain to parts of te bay area, some heavier spots as we press in closer on live doppler into the parts of the north bay and east bay where you see brighter colors, the yellows and oranges. we have some scattered downpours moving through. on the storm impact scale, the storm will linger into the day tomorrow as well and it could even bring us a chance of thunder and gusty winds. we will go hour by hour on future weather and show you the rest of the storm in the full full forecast in a few minutes. some alumni from sir francis drake high school are pushing to save the school's name. the group no name change held a drake was a 16th century english explorer with ties to the slave trade. these alums say they were left out of the decision to change the name and they want the school to take a vote on saving

after that it's not in my memory at all. so eight is the best i can do, but what we are seeing today, it's not a lot of clear skies unfortunately if you're trying to enjoy pi day, there's a lot of rain moving in. live doppler 7 show you showers moving in from north to south and in some areas like the east bay we do have pockets of downpours. we will zoom in a little closer to the east bay and where you see those bright colors near san leandro, union city, those are the downpours we are tracking and it will be brief but we could have heavier rain move through the neighborhood for about five minutes or so and that's kind of the theme of the evening. light rain with pockets of downpours. on the storm impact scale it's a level i system tonight and tomorrow, it will turn wendy later on tonight

front moves through, tomorrow behind the front there's actually a chance of thunderstorms developing some hail, similar to what happened last week and even snow on our highest peaks like mount hamilton. a wind advisory will go into effect starting at 10 pm tonight for areas shaded in yellow, that the entire coastline and bay shoreline. we could see northwesterly winds developing gusts up to 50 miles per hour so it will be a windy night ahead. 9 pm tonight we are still tracking the rain and it's focused mainly on the southern half of the bay area. by midnight we will likely see snow develop around mount hamilton with that higher elevation cold air moving in. tomorrow morning it's partly sunny skies and we are still tracking the chance of a shower developing into the afternoon and by 12:30 or 1:00 i think the best chance of finding those showers will likely be along the peninsula and in the south bay and in the rain is out of here by tomorrow evening. rainfall potential, about a quarter of an inch because it

is a light storm and it's pretty quick moving. we could see a little bit more than that. we are tracking snow in parts of lake and mendocino counties, about 1500 feet could see up to six inches of snow. more snow going to the sierra. a winter storm warning until 5 pm tomorrow above 3000 feet, the highest peaks could see two feet of snow so that will be very nice. back at home overnight tonight, mid 30s to mid 40s with showers moving through, it's windy and chilly and tomorrow the cool air sticks around and we have that chance of an isolated shower that could produce some hail. we will track the chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow, tuesday it is a cold morning with temperatures mainly in the 30s but it's a nice afternoon. st. patrick's day is partly cloudy and rain returns thursday evening and for much of the day on friday. the warriors entered today's matinee with the jazz on a four-game slide with utah coming in with the best record in the nba but golden state was
