at a train station in san jose last week. >> reporter: brandon haus says he was transferring trains in san jose when he heard screaming. >> i saw a woman on her back trailing with a man crouching over her. >> reporter: he knew he had to help. >> it was instinctive. i didn't think for a second. i just went after him. >> reporter: he yelled at security guards to call 9-1-1 and eventually other people came out to see what was happening. including the victim's boyfriend who just left the station but had been on the phone with her when the attack occurred. they were able to chase that man from the station to this sidewalk where they were able to secure him long enough for police to arrive. >> police came and asked him point blank why he was there. did you hit that girl, and he admitted to it. and the greatest

sound was hearing the handcuff handcuffs. >> reporter: what also concerned haus was what he deemed a lack of adequate security onsite, saying things could have gone differently. >> easily that man could have slipped out and our citizens would be unsafe with this guy still at large. >> reporter: especially amid heightened anxieties: >> i hope it highlights some of the violence against our asian-american community. new developments. a man is under arrest after two assaults against asian seniors in san francisco. yesterday an 83-year-old man was knocked to

the ground. a 77-year-old woman was knocked down near market street. we've made a commitment to building a better bay area. that includes fighting for racial and social justice. and that means not just reporting on the crimes but the efforts to find solutions. that was the focus of a virtual town hall for victims rights advocates across california tonight. >> reporter: victim after victim of asian decent attacked in recent months. weeks and bays in the bay area. now a push to help those victims. >> how do you turn the corner and talk about the mental health of our community? >> reporter: thursday a virtual town hall was held where some of california's victim advocates announced a ten-point plan.

>> it's just left our community feeling a lot of pain. and it is so important to uplift sursxriefrs victims at this time. >> reporter: victims are dealing with both physical and mental pain. earlier this week, i covered the attack on danilo chong who had to go back to the hospital because his left eye wouldn't stop bleeding. >> with some of our volunteers walking the street definitely would help. >> reporter: also help in the form of funds for those who can't work, pay their bills, get legal serves or even get treatment for physical and mental wounds.
