discussed chinatown earlier today where there was a big rally. >> what a show of support and unity today. city leaders joining with the asian american community say on and off to the violence. >> reporter: a community in pain and the suffering felt by all. hunters packed chinatown sports myths where in a sign of solidarity. demanding attacks against asian americans to stop. >> we are all in this together so if we don't force it now, when will we?will we?will we?wi? >> reporter: attacks against asian americans seem to be happening almost weekly in the bay area. the violence often caught on camera. many victims have been seniors. >> just imagine if someone otyour grandfather. and killed them. it is sad and painful for

families. it's painful to this community. which authority suffered. >> reporter: there is also grief for the eight victims of a mass shooting in spas at the glenna this week. six of them are asian women. federal authorities have yet to bring hate crime charges against the suspect. >> we know there was hate. >> reporter: some of the community are scared to be on the streets. >> when one community is not safe none of us are safe. >> i think we need to send the message, you will be arrested if you commit thththththth >> often times we see police are not the appropriate tool or solution to the safety concerns we see. including the use of force in situations with mental health crises. >> reporter: today we saw messages of healing and hope.ane

city hall to show solidarity with the victims of the atlanta spa shootings. residents say the spike in violence against asian americans has them on edge. >> i am scared to what could possibly happen to my parents if they go to the grocery store. i fear my parents safety just taking my son done my part. >> reporter: daly city is taking extra precautions to keep residents safe. both uniformed and plainclothes officers were patrolling the city. new developments with the back less over tweets allison collins sent back in 2016. mayor london n. breed has joined a list of public officials calling for her

resignation. more than 20 people had attached their name to a statement put out today calling for her to step down from the school board. the tweets appear to be anti- asian in nature and collins has responded through an essay posted to media. she wrote, they have been taken out of context. both at that specific moment and the nuance of the conversation that took place. one of my daughters had recently experienced an incident in her school where her asian american peers will taunting her latin x classmate. more than $2 million has been raised in an online fundraiser for the family of a single mother killed in the atlanta spa shootings. -- 23-year-old son started the fundraiser saying she is the only family he and his brother have in the u.s. grant is one of six asian women who died when a gunman opened fire on three spas. a total of eight people were killed. police arrested aaron long and say he has admitted to the shootings. part of building a bay area is fighting for racial and

social justice. we certainly do not have all the answers but we do have a lot of resources to help you. you can help find your ally at www.abc7news.com/take action. to the east bay where community partners are stepping up to make sure members of the african america community get there second covid-19 vaccine. a free vaccination clinic was held today at oaklands full gospel church. the focus being on vaccinating black seniors and essential workers. many are members of the church congregation. >> people feel comfortable and safe coming to the church. it's a comfort and trust level. >> reporter: people who were vaccinated at the site three weeks ago came back today for their second and final dose of the pfizer shot. they were offered to people who signed up in advance.

more shots will be given at the site tomorrow. some 20,000 masks created with an artistic touch were headed out today and see if it does go. san francisco's covid-19 command center teamed up with local artists and nonprofit groups to create the masks and give them away today. they focused on neighborhoods most impacted by the pandemic. the initiative is part of the city's mask on stay strong campaign to promote mask wearing to stop the spread of covid-19 and safely reopen san francisco for business. there will be no live international audience for the delay 2020 tokyo olympics. that is set to happen this summer. spectators from overseas will not be allowed to attend the summer olympics in japan. that decision made due to the pandemic was announced today. >> we are very confident the games will be the light at the end of the dark tunnel. and the games will send a strng message of peace solidarity and resilience from tokyo and japan into the entire

abc news has learned one facility in texas has a capacity for 250 migrants but at times has had over 3000 in custody. in el paso, u.s. officials escorting families to the international bridge. in some cases hundreds of miles from where migrants were picked up. that is to circumvent one mexican states refusal to take the migrant children. >> we have had children forcibly returned. >> reporter: president presiden urging migrants not to come. telling george stephanopoulos the administration is working to restructure the facilities. >> we are in the process of getting set up and it is not going to take a whole long time. but we need to have people apply for asylum in place.

remembrance of the lives lost to aids in native communities. the national aids memorial provided us with this video of the national native hiv awareness day in golden gate park. people gathered at the aids memorial to pray in honor american indians and members of the alaska and hawaii native communities. the event had a treeplanting ceremony and a quilt unveiling. >> the negative community and other committees of color are adversely impacted by hiv and aids. so we are increasing awareness. >> national aids awareness day is held every year on the first day of spring. the native communities chose this day because it considers spring a time of profound change new beginnings and birth. safety advocates rallied and saved us" debate park to make jfk drive permanently car free. the major wrote has been closha to cars last april.

>> we officially welcomed spring today but earth is not the only planet that sees it seasons change. nasa put together several images of saturn that were taken over a three-year amount of time. what scientists always the planets northern hemisphere shifting from summer to fall. the pictures were taken by the hubble telescope which was built right here in the bay area. how cool is that? that's it for abc 7
