showing solidarity across the bay area. the asian american community and allies are coming together to denounce the wave of crimes including the shootings in atlanta. hundreds of people turned out for the rallies. good morning and it is sunday, march 21. thank you for joining us. we will have much more on the rallies and the messages from the asian american community in a moment but first, a quick look at the weather. >> good morning. sunrise just over one hour and we've got the coldest temperatures about one hour after sunrise so with all the clear sky, live doppler showing us we are bottoming out in some neighborhoods with winds in the upper elevations, breezy. lower elevations are calm. national weather service has a frost advisory through 9:00. as we look at the bay area in

general, they are warmer 3 to 11 degrees warmer -- holder from the east bay to the coast. 37 in half moon bay. 36 downtown, 41 at oakland and you'll notice the numbers are cold from livermore at 36, 38 in santa rosa with 39 by the delta. a nippy start to sunday and the milder afternoon 60 in pleasanton by noon time, 53 at stinson beach and by 4:00 in the mid 60s and a warmer day for everyone. we will track breezy offshore winds when we see you next hundreds of people showed up to an event in chinatown to show their support for the asian american community. this comes after the attacks in the bay area and the shooting in atlanta.

federal authorities have yet to find enough evidence for hate crime charges. >> we don't need to wait. we know there was hate and i think that is why we are seeing a response. >> some of the community are scared to be on the streets. >> i i i message out that if you commit the crimes that you will be arrested and there is no free lunch. >> not everyone believes a larger police presence is the answer. >> police are not the appropriate solution including the use of force in situations like mental health crisis. >> during the rally there were messages of healing and hope hand-painted by community members in the park. the mayor is focus on safety and solutions and next week the city will announce a new program to keep the community safe. patrice patrol is happening to

keep those folks safe. a show of solidarity in in brisbane. residence gathered to denounce racism against asian americans and pacific islanders. there have not been any reports but they wanted to make sure that everyone feels safe and supported. >> the asian american community is reeling from the attacks. being captured and filmed and put out on social media and it just needs to stop. >> officials are urging residents to call the anonymous tip line and those that do not feel safe walking alone can call the community response coalition. in the east bay the oakland rollers and let people skate were among several groups to show their support.

they gathered at madison park to begin their skate which took them through chinatown and the skaters say they're rolling in solidarity he's for asians and pacific islands open targeted. the congresswoman of california who is the chair of the congressional asian and pacific american caucus and will talk about how long they can confront the issues. that is at 8:00 this morning on abc 7. the san francisco portability education in a letter the local politicians are calling for the resignation of the school board vice president and they say a recently surfaced series of tweets is anti-asian. matt boone explains that a parent's group drew attention to the tweets as they push to recall board members. >> the series of tweets was made by alison collins in

wrote a letter calling for collins to resign which was cosigned by more than 20 other leaders. >> this is not acceptable to me and should not be acceptable for anyone. >> she has not indicated not whether she plans to resign but issued a statement, i acknowledge that in this moment my words taken out of comp confidence can cause more pain for those already suffering. i apologize unreservedly and found some support in the board president who tweeted, i stand in solidarity with the vice president and this week has been marked by hate and violence and in this moment of pain, words matter more than ever and i appreciate the vice president has apologized for her remarks. a concern over asian american students is prompting

some to threaten a lawsuit against the school board and according to the chronicle the supporters are set over plans to end the merit-based admission the board of education voted to move lowell to the rotary system. the group threatening to sue the school board says the plan is racist against asian americans who are more than half of the lowell student body. >> bars will be allowed to serve customers outdoors without food while the state suggests officers and retail can reopen with modifications and the city will limit offices and will limit retail and restaurants 250% or 200 people. orange tier allows for outdoor performances and state guidelines allow for live sports and the mayor and local health officials are ironing out

details. the city expects to confirm the move to the orange tier on tuesday and it would go into effect on wednesday. make all californians eligible for vaccines by may 1, the state is struggling to reach some populations. california is the worst states for vaccinating equity. the vaccine team talked with the community and state leaders about what needs to change. >> 20% of californians have received at least one doubt one dose of the vaccine so far but when it comes to vaccine equity the cdc says we're struggling. >> sadly, i'm not super surprised. >> to fix that the governor changed the distribution strategy allocating 40% of all doses to zip codes in the most

vulnerable areas. the governor also said the tiered eligibility system is expected to end and 5.5 weeks and the vaccines will be available in the 40% equity strategy does not work for the entire state. >> it's meant even though we represent 20% of the population , the formula only would allow for 2% of the vaccines to go to the population. >> 20 legislators signed the letter urging the state to change the strategy. >> what are you and other assembly members hoping to achieve? >> we suggested a different way which is to focus on census tracts. >> it's one of the hotspots that was not prioritized and community members say they could not wait any longer and now are opening up a second vaccination hub with the city

and partnerships. >> we will do a walk-through and already eyeing some additional sites. >> another hotspot and the supervisor announced a mobile vaccination effort set to launch next thursday. in the east bay, community partners are stepping up to make sure members of the african-american community get there second dose. avery vaccination clinic was hold that the gospel church and focuses on vaccinating black seniors and essential workers. many are members of the congregation. >> people feel very comfortable and safe coming to the church as the leaders in the church and pastor in the church are getting the vaccine. >> people who were vaccinated three weeks ago came back for their second and final dose. they were offered to people who signed up in advance because of

7 camera and it is 6:15 am on this sunday and i hope you are enjoying your morning. chp asking for help as it investigates a multi car crash on the bay bridge. they said the driver of a red scion posed as a good samaritan to check on the welfare of the victims after the collision and while everyone was distracted, a man from the car stole a one- year-old terrier and took off. chp tracked down the scion and the dog who has now been reunited with the owner. is still investigators are trying to find the thief and anyone who may have dashcam video is asked to contact chp. the push to end period property. santa clara county board of supervisors will consider a measure to ensure all public bathrooms are stocked with

hate crime, battery and probation violation. the details on effort to keep the historic peninsula from closing. the 107-year-old notre dame university will transform into a graduate an online school and this is video from a rally there last month. they are facing challenges raising money and has seen a decline in enrollment. no word on plans for wrapping up the undergraduate programs. the oakland teachers union approved a tentative deal to reopen schools and both sides negotiated for weeks before yesterday's votes. it's to have an estimated 13,000 students return to class on the hybrid schedule and officials will also be required to visit classrooms to ensure all safety measures are in place. the oakland unified parents released a statement that read the school that is open for students five hours a week is not an open school and will continue to advocate for full-

building into the eastern pacific and clouds deflected from that ridge in any week weather systems we see will go up and over the ridge and we will be on the eastern side of that and it will usher in some gusty offshore winds. this is the roof camera where temperatures are typical in the city in the mid 40s within inland valleys we have fog in napa and the windchill in santa rosa. 39 bay, 39 degrees and the airport warm enough, the winds backing off with upper 30s in santa rosa , fog in napa 35, livermore at 36 and the frost advisory and these numbers are pretty typical. we could see some temperatures drop off even more so as we get to 8:00 and then we begin to see the reversal where the numbers begin to decline. upper level winds 38 miles an hour at mount diablo. mt. tam at 20 miles an hour

that i want to show you the direction out of the north so the northerly winds and atmosphere mixed up will allow for warmer day to east bay it's clear and a chilly start, sunny and milder this afternoon. 50s for some of you yesterday, mid and upper 60s for inland valleys. the warmth along with the breezy offshore winds continue through wednesday and a look at monday, the winds will begin to crank and we will look at numbers in response to that coming up with partly cloudy skies monday and tuesday back in the sunshine. even into wednesday we are looking at the highs into the 70s with the winds beginning to dial back wednesday and we turn cooler to where we should be for thursday and as we look at the winds monday, cranking up the coast. at 3:00 30 to 40 miles an hour through the
