today to stop hate and violence against asian-americans and today it may have been the biggest show of unity yet. cornell bernard joins us live from san francisco with more on today's event and it was just electric. >> reporter: yes it really was. all weekend we have seen a lot of solidarity for the asian- american immunity. the day a new ally joining others to say, stop the hate. more than 1000 people taking over market street for this march to stop hate and violence against asian- americans. the violence has been on the rise in the bay area and many crimes against asian-american seniors have been caught on camera. in just eight days ago, eight people gunned down. six were local women. >> this is a call to action to

stand up and say no more, enough is enough. >> reporter: before the march, there was a rally. this is a new ally in the cause. >> i refuse to accept asian hate . it is baseless and ridiculous and un-american. >> many people say they are standing with asian-american families and seniors. it means a lot. >> reporter: the fear of walking down the street is a new reality for many families. >> my mother is now shopping for baseball bat to protect herself and it's is not the life i wanted for my people. >> we need to protect one another. when it comes to safety, mayor london breed wants to bring back the community-based safety patrols.

>> we will bring back something similar to the guardian angels in our neighborhoods to protect our seniors. we will protect them and uplift them. >> reporter: they say this will be similar to the guardian angels but the mayor says it will dedicate on the neighborhoods where these attacks have happened. the mayor says the will be details coming next week on that. in the meantime, a great show of community here today. >> really encouraging news and a nice crowd to see. many thanks. there was a community rally in front of the san jose city hall. leaders were calling for an to the crimes targeting asian-americans. they were showing solidarity to both survivors and victims. organizers wanted to get the message across that hate motivated crimes were unacceptable. this also drew in some big dignitaries. >> people are saying we need to

do something. use technology, twitter, facebook. in three days, they put this event together. >> antiracism education needs to be taught in schools they say and starting at an early age. and building a better bay area is fighting for racial and social justice. we have resources to help you. go over to abc7news.com/ take action to find out more. the covid-19 vaccine was delivered to an underserved area today. this baptist church was a vaccination clinic today in the fillmore district. people had to register in advance but walk-ins were accepted if someone who registered was a show no-show i should say. >> we are seeing to the officials and to the

because of covid-19 cases. the governor signed the bill on friday and it is retroactive to january 1. businesses with 25 or fewer workers are exempt. and the tsa is now screening passengers. it was very packed in miami beach. now they have a curfew and law enforcement was called in. elizabeth says all of this comes with a renewed push to get people to get vaccinated. >> reporter: more than 121 million vaccines have now been administered across the u.s.. large vaccination sites opening up like this one. another over at arrowhead stadium in kansas city. nearly 80 million americans have received one dose and more than 43 million have been fully vaccinated. some are still hesitant to get the shot. chuck schumer is calling on the cdc to take action.

>> we want you to launch a program that educates and show why people should take the vaccine. >> reporter: states have begun using restrictions and more and more americans are on the move. on friday the tsa screened more than 1.5 million people which is the highest number since last march. many traveling for spring break. massive crowds were seen. officials declaring a state of emergency here and imposing a curfew at 8:00 p.m. . they also closed three causeways coming into the city. >> if you come here and think you can let loose, do not come here. we are not an anything goes destination. >> we are trying to be distanced from other people with precautions because i know california is one of the top places where cases are high.

back about 25 people held a street mural protest in san francisco today. the group was on pine street holding union signs and painting slogans on the payment. the california college of the arts is using antiunion tactics. they claim students are being forced to live on campus to help the college pay down the debt. the college says it's financial position is strong and they will continue to meet with the union to reach an agreement. the message on the humanitarian crisis at the u.s. border from the biden administration appears to be changing. minors are now in custody. federal ofare struggling

to find safe housing for many of them. 5000 children and teenagers are under u.s. border control custody and over 800 and in custody for more than 10 days. the legal limit is only three days. facing growing criticism, the biden administration says they inherited a broken system. >> the entire system under united states law has been in place throughout administrations of both parties and it was dismantled in its entirety by the trump administration. >> in recent days the administration has warned migrant families that the border is closed and secure, urging them not to cross into the u.s. and former president donald trump is returning to social media, this time on his own network. they say he will be launching his own platform in two to three months that will, quote, completely regrouped the game.
