all right, welcome to our second hour. spring is certainly in the air here in the studio as we kick-start the season. maya feller is standing by with her wisdom on the healthy meals that will have you feeling great all day long. that is coming up. >> but first, the new severe weather threat for much of the central and eastern u.s. at least 50 million americans at risk for damaging winds and possible tornadoes. >> and this just two days after a reported 23 twisters touched down across mississippi, alabama and georgia. carving a path of destruction i. in some places the damage is being called catastrophic. >> yeah, we've seen people in alabama digging through the rubble to see what they can salvage from their destroyed homes so let's go back to rob with the latest on the severe weather threat. rob, good morning, once again. >> such sad scenes coming out of not just alabama but georgia, late at night. this was an ef-4 that went

through noonan, georgia, just southwest of atlanta, and this is the local high school and some of those homes just torn up. ef-4 tornado, 170-mile-an-hour winds in pelham just before that. you see this is why it's so important to get in the lowest level of your home. any sort of second story was ripped off here in these homes and as you mentioned there were fatalities. another threat today. hot on the heels of this one, the atmosphere has certainly reset. here's where we expect the most turbulent weather to say the least from little rock to memphis, to nashville, already we're starting to see some storms fire and already producing not just gusty winds but heavy rain so flooding is becoming an issue. right along i-40. going to get two rounds. this morning and again tonight and this, again, we might have some nighttime tornadoes which,e dangerous. we'll talk about what that threat means not just for flooding but as it pushes off to the east tomorrow in just a few minutes. whit, over to you. >> thanks so much. we turn now to the latest on the pandemic. cases rising in a number of

states and now there is progress on the vaccine front, though, about 35% of americans have now received at least one dose. let's get to abc's stephanie ramos. stephanie, good morning. >> reporter: whit, good morning. an average of 2.5 million americans are now receiving the covid vaccine every day and with vaccine distribution ramping up, some states are expanding eligibility. just as people head out on spring break. this morning, calm in miami's south beach after curfews put in place due to clashes between spring breakers and police. >> we are concerned that people should stay safe and these should not be superspreader events. >> reporter: miami beach police say more than a thousand people have been arrested this spring break season with abou80 seized all while the pandemic rages on. coronavirus cases are rising. 18 states now reporting increases in the last week. earlier this morning, whit spoke to dr. fauci who said the increases are concerning. >> i'm quite concerned as our my colleagues in the

public health arena that we might start seeing a resurgence. >> reporter: and the cdc urging americans to continue to take those steps that prevent the spread of the virus. >> and we know from prior surges that if we don't control things now, there is a real potential for the epidemic curve to soar again. >> reporter: in texas, 33-year-old victoria gallardo lost her fight with covid after her entire family including her newborn daughter contracted the virus. gallardo's husband armando devastated. >> when you see your loved one on a ventilator literally like lifeless on a ventilator in a coma, it breaks your heart. >> reporter: this comes as vaccine distribution ramps up across the country. johnson & johnson on track to deliver 20 million doses by the end of march. 11 million set to go out next 47 ssay they will expand eligibility to everyone over the age of 16 by the president's may 1st deadline. and there's some news when it comes to kids and the covid

millions of americans from little rock to washington, d.c., preparing for severe weather this weekend. deadly tornadoes tore through three states killing at least six people. one of those twisters believed to be an ef-4 with 170-mile-per-hour winds. in wisconsin, jacob blake has sued the kenosha police officer who fired seven shots at him last august leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. the lawsuit claims the officer used excessive force while responding to a domestic incident. no charges were brought against him for the shooting. and in some fun news this morning, in california, laura snyder has been entertaining drivers during the lockdown by creating daily elaborate lawn displays using six giant stuffed teddy bears. the bears have been seen exercising, cleaning, camping. she's been doing it for like the whole year now, right. but now that the restrictions have been loosened snyder says the bears are going into hibernation. good for them. they've done a lot of work.

it's make ahead so you can make it a couple of days in advance. also, the slow cooker is your personal chef so it does all the work for you and it reminds me of mama goldstein's passovers growing up. in here i have a first cut brisket, i have some carrots and i have some onions in there so what i'm going to do is i'll do best friends forever salt and pepper. right into there. they come to every holiday and then we're going to take some oregano and rub it with your fingers so you get some of the oils from the oregano and mama goldstein's secret, onion soup mix. put that all over the beef and the veggies and then two things, first of all, put the brisket into the fridge overnight. this way, the beef gets seasoned all the way through and then secondly, with that you'll put it on low u' go put olo

everyone's holiday favorite, a whole stick of butter right into there. >> ooh. >> uh-huh. >> and then, mix it up like you're mixing up your hopes and dreams for an amazing healthy, happy passover, and then when you mix it up, you are going to get sort of like a wet sand like ocean went right over that matzo sand and then we are going to do the matzo dance. so we're going to push it onto the pie plate just like that and when we are done, we are going to put it in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes on the middle rack and you get this awesome crust. >> that's amazing, and so, with that or a lot of dishes you can make, you're showing us one that features all the best parts of a bagel without the bread. what comes next? >> all right, so my favorite jewish comfort food is bagels and lox. like you said we can't have bagels on there but we got our matzo crust and then i'll make a quiche out of it. so if you're making a quiche, a great base is to have five eggs
