after a long delay high school football finally returns to oakland, what the shortened season will look like. the weather in the 70s, covid-19 cases going down and thousands finally being vaccinatd, the result is this, people finally feeling comfortable to go out after a year. a new vaccination site opens in one of the most underserved communities. we take a look at the temperatures in the accuweather forecast, abc 7 news starts right now. building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. people were embracing the sunshine, the warm weather

combined with promising covid- 19 stats encouraged people to get out and socialize. you for joining us. let's get to meteorologist drew. >> what a day today was, a lot of sunshine, temperatures above average and this is not even the warmest day we have on the forecast. this pattern will be stickin around. temperatures typically this time of year is in the low to mid 60s, today we were well into the 70s, away from the coast. some spots more than 12 degrees above average. right now we are 5-6 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. widespread 50s and a lot of spots and that will set the stage for a quick warm-up tomorrow. temperatures star in the 40s but temperatures are quickly off to the races by 10 am. the warmest spots in the 60s

and by lunchtime, 70s and we have several hours of warming to go in the afternoon. look at the afternoon highs warmer weather in the days ahead in the fall forecast. covid-19 cases are dropping, vaccinations are increasing. after staying inside all winter, some residents told a reporter today that it seemed like the perfect time to get outside. >> reporter: dolores park and the richmond district, crowds of people had the same idea, it is time to leave the house. for 15-year-old karen it's felt like a special occasion. >> it felt like a holiday. it was mostly driving around the city. >> reporter: for the past year the family has been driving around the city to catch a glimpse of normalcy. today they got out of the car at their favorite place, the

beach. >> i am probably going to touch the sand and water at the beach, it is nice. i have not done that in a year. >> reporter: this weekend, friends gathering in prison. >> she and i have not seen each other in the last year and a half. >> reporter: he took out his rollerblades after two years of not skating. this weekend he felt safe. the data shows that cases are going down and the number of people getting vaccinated is going up. so far 43% have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine. >> everybody i know over 65 has had both shots. >> reporter: this is good for business, the theater was popping. >> it has begun to ramp up the last 10 days. >> reporter: now going back to the martinez family. touching the sand, never taking

simple moments like this for granted. in san francisco, abc 7 news. the weather made for a nice night in the east bay where high school football has returned to oakland unified. six months after the season would have started. matt spoke with players and parents about what it means to get back on the field. >> reporter: skyline junior lucas says it is hard to describe how it feels to be back. >> it was exciting that we were able to get this going. it was breathtaking. it is surreal. >> reporter: he says he was not sure it would even happen. >> we had false hope during the fall. >> reporter: the prospect of getting on the field was dampened d tha >> hopefully next week i will start practicing,plays and

h anfire department, the first ever on treasure island. berkeley sanders says it is about time. >> most people in san francisco that i ha dealt with my friends do not realize that people lived out here. >> reporter: this year volunteers knocked on every door on the island telling eligible residents about the vaccine opportunity. 3000 people live here on treasure island and 14% have been vaccinated, it is one of the lowest rates in san francisco. supervisor met advocated for the site, he says treasure island is a underserved community often overlooked. >> people have technology barriers and language barriers, they may be disabled. >> i do not like going into the city. >> reporter: california has prioritized treasure island on its list for equitable vaccine

building a better bay area, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. headlines, fewer covid-19 cases and a picture-perfect spring saturday brought out crowds today, in san francisco places were packed including dolores park and some people told abc 7 this is the first time they have seen friends in a year. it comes as vaccinations are increasing, 48% of people in san francisco have gotten at least one shot. treasure island's first pop- up vaccination site opened today, california has prioritized treasure island on its list of low income zip codes for equitable vaccine access. there were rallies all across the country against the recent rise in violence against asian americans.
