building a better bay area, moving forward finding solutions, this is abc7 use. the outcry is growing lighter across the bay area this weekend, for hate and violence against the asian american community, to stop. thank you for joining us, i am dion. a number of groups across the bay area took a stance today against bigotry. we focus on issues involving race and social justice as part of our commitment to help build a better bay area. cornell joins us live in san francisco, where a church held one rally against a api hate, and cornell, it seems like this has reached a fever pitch, protesters are set up. >> reporter: you are right. more people saying enough is enough. a big show of solidarity in san francisco and across the bay

area, in support of the a api community. >> this is a time to stand and speak. >> the pastor spoke to the crowd at san francisco's civic center, a call to action to stop hate and violence against the aapi community. >> in christ's name we want to be about peace, reconciliation, we want to stand for the dignity of aapi people. >> reporter: this brought the faith-based community together, organized by the asian american christian collaborative, members who are disgusted by ongoing scenes of violence, many churches are reaching out to seniors. >> we are trying to be there and show up for them so that they feel not scared to step out of their homes. >> reporter: the pastor lending his support as an ally. >> we were just several months ago, down here marching and making a statement to gather with blm, many of my asian brothers and sisters stood with me. >> reporter: 400 people marched from hillsboro to berlin gate,

to stop hate and violence. organized by families who can't be silent anymore. >> we can try to stop hate together. and focus more on love and we are going to put a stop to the hate crimes. >> reporter: he helped organize the march and rally after his own mother was harassed at a gas station for simply asking directions. >> basically blocked her and wouldn't let her leave. so she asked him you know, very nicely, like excuse me, can you please move your car so i can get out of here and he said this is my country, you can't tell me what to do. >> reporter: this crowd also on the move, denouncing hate and bigotry against asian americans, calling for justice and equal rights for all. such a big show of unity across the bay area, today's rally here was held in conjunction with 15 other rallies across the country

today. live in san francisco, cornell, abc7 news. they are making their voices heard, thank you. was, dozens gathered in berkeley today in a show of solidarity for asian americans and pacific islanders. a group of seventh graders organized this youth rising rally, it all started at the aquatic park, where attendees listened to speakers with messages of empowerment. they then marched to the pedestrian span of the bay bridge, holding up banners and signs. part of building a better areaea is fighting for racial and social justice, we had a lot of resources to help you and to find your ally, you can had to abc7 news california's race to vaccinate ramps up in just a couple of days, as the eligibility list expands to include everyone 50 years and older. the state is averaging close to 300,000 doses administered every day, with more than 6 million people being fully vaccinated, which is about 19% of the population.

there were close to 3000 newly diagnosed coronavirus cases reported today, the positivity rate though is down to 1.7%. marin county is also increasing its efforts, to detect covid-19 variance, that is according to the independent journal. the county is aiming for 2% to 4% of positive samples in the sequences to determine if infections are from variance, identified in the uk, south africa, and brazil. santa clara county last week identified the bay area's first known case from the p1 variant, first identified in brazil. alameda and napa counties are expected to move up into the orange tier on tuesday, taking a look at where the barrett aviary county moving from red to orange, means wineries can reopen indoors, tasting rooms, and bars, san francisco and santa clara county advanced into the orange tier last week.

that allows more businesses to reopen with restrictions and permits indoor dining at 50% capacity. uber is set to open its new office tomorrow, uber says their new mission headquarters will only open at 20% capacity, and on a voluntary basis. employees will have to wear masks, socially distance, and go through daily health screenings that include temperature checks, but for those who aren't ready, office workers are allowed to work remotely, until september 13. on the peninsula, volunteers come through linda mar state beach today, collecting discarded ppe. they found masks and gloves along with sanitary wipes and a lot of single use plastics because so many people are eating takeout. supervisor, david, says a lot of it ends up in the ocean, or

in storm drains where it can be deadly to see life and birds. >> we want people to continue to wear their masks, but at the same time, people need to dispose of them properly. >> there is five, just from these two volunteers. and just in about five minutes of time. >> one of the first things they do, is clip the straps from the masks, so that fish can't get caught in them, more than 30 volunteers build 20 buckets today. moving on to developing news now, the growing humanitarian crisis at the us- mexico border. abc news reporter, andrew, tells us how the white house is trying to handle the surge of migrants. tragedy on the us-mexico border, a nine-year-old girl has died while trying to cross the rio grande. the border patrol says they found her, her mother, and three-year-old brother unconscious on march 20, both the woman and boy survived. over the last month, officials

say they have stopped an average of 5000 people a day. officials expecting that number to grow as we get closer to summer. >> all of the officials tell us they are doing the best they can, but they are being overwhelmed by sheer numbers. >> more than 18,000 unaccompanied minors, now in u.s. custody, that number increasing by nearly 1000 in one day. and el paso saturday, a group of lawmakers getting a firsthand look at a facility housing unaccompanied migrant children. >> we have to make sure that the facilities that are down by the health and human services are appropriate, that they have the medical care and the wraparound services that they need. >> in san diego, officials toward a new facility for migrant teenage girls. >> we were asked by the government to provide a temporary home for young people who need a place to go that is safe and will keep them well cared for, while we do the important work of reuniting them with families or sponsors. >> this new temporary shelter will be able to house more than 1400 girls, 500 were expected to arrive saturday, 250 more are expected monday. andrew, abc news, new york. check it out, another gorgeous day for most of the bay area, and it brought out large crowds again.

the fog could stop people from hitting the beach and pacifica, and much clearer for those in santa cruz. a picture perfect day along the water there. san francisco got in on the sunshine as well, you can see from marina green and if you thought this weekend was nice, abc7 news meteorologist, drew, tells us to what is around the corner. >> so nice, we did it twice this weekend today and yesterday, temperatures well above average, with a lot of sunshine. the lone exception today, the cost. we brought back the fog look from the bridge kim, we are socked in, that is making a difference when it comes to her temperatures. if you look at this map, you would think we were in the middle of july with the summer microclimates, 50s along the coast but the warmest spot in the 70s and 80s. later this evening we will begin the 50s and 60s. tomorrow, we will start out in the 40s but it will be windy tomorrow, look at those numbers with the full forecast. >> sounds good, thanks. looking ahead, a big moving day in san jose.

in the south bay, apartment building is putting down roots at a new address, abc7 was in san jose as crews moved to the powell state apartments earlier today, you

can see the building on a giant dolly there, being trucked to its new home about 900 feet away. it is now located at the corner of fourth and reed streets, habitat for humanity plans to refurbish 111-year-old building, and convert it into affordable housing. one woman says it was worth the trip from menlo park, just to see this move happen. >> it is a wonderful thing, on all sorts of levels. it is preserving our wonderful old building, it is going to go to a good use, everybody got together it is just a win win win. >> and quite the effort! time-lapse video here shows the building being backed into its new effort process took about three hours. >> christians around the world are celebrating palm sunday

san francisco's ocean beach is being used as a canvas today. the earth scape art experience ventured out this afternoon, the team shared videos of some of its previous projects, you can see there, how the sand is transformed into these intricate works of art. the organizer explained the creative process to abc7. >> we come together, and we tap into our creativity and create art together. the focus really is on connecting to our intuition, having spontaneous creative flow, and everything is temporary. >> today's art project, it is supposed to be done before high tide so people will be able to see it, before it gets washed away. >> new developments now on plans to bring back san diego's comic con. organizers have announced dates for its first in person convention, since 2019, this year it will kickoff on november 26, the day after thanks giving. the hope is that by the holiday weekend, covid-19 restrictions will have eased enough to allow
