joining us, i am dion, a number of groups across the bay area took a stand today against bigotry. we focus on issues involving race and social justice as part of our commitment, to help build a better bay area. abc7 news reporter, cornell, was in san francisco where a church held a rally against aapi hate. >> this is a time to stand and speak. >> reporter: the pastor spoke to the crowd at san francisco's civic center, a call to action to stop hate and violence against the aapi community. >> we want to be about peace, reconciliation, we want to stand for the dignity of aapi people. >> this rally brought the faith- based community together, organized by the asian american christian collaborative, members who are disgusted by ongoing scenes of violence, many churches are reaching out to seniors. >> we are trying to be there and show up for them so that they feel not scared to step

out of their homes. >> reporter: the pastor is lending his support, as an ally. >> we were just several months ago, down here marching and making a statement togeth with blm, any of my asian brothers and sisters did with . me >> reporter: on the peninsula, 400 people marched from hillsboro to burlington, to stop hate and violence. organized by families, who can't be silent anymore. >> we can try to stop hate together, and focus more on love and we will put a stop to the hate crimes. >> reporter: they helped organize the march and rally after their own mother was harassed at a gas station, for simply asking directions. >> basically blocked her and wouldn't let her leave. so, she asked him, you know very nicely, excuse me, can you please move your car so i can get out of here and he said no, this is my country, you can't tell me what to do. >> reporter: this crowd on the move, denouncing hate and bigotry against asian americans, calling for justice,

and equal rights for all. a big show of unity across the bay area, to stop the violence, today's civic center rally was held in conjunction with 15 others across the country. in san francisco, cornell, abc7 news. in berkeley today, in a show of solidarity for asian americans and pacific islanders. a group of seventh graders organized this youth rising rally, it all started at berkeley's aquatic park where attendees listened to speakers with a message of empowerment, they then marched to the pedestrian span of the bay bridge holding up banners and signs. part of building a better bay area is fighting for racial and social justice. we do have an awful lot of resources to help you, so to find your ally, had to abc7 news.com/take action. california's race to vaccinate ramps up in just a couple of days, as the

eligibility list expands to include everyone 50 years and older. the state is averaging close to 300,000 doses administered every day, more than 6 million people have been fully vaccinated, which is about 19% of the population. there were close to 3000 newly diagnosed coronavirus cases reported today, but the positivity rate is down 1.7%. marin county is increasing its efforts to detect covid-19 variance, that is according to the independent journal. the county is aiming for 2 to 4% of positive samples, in marin sequences, to determine if infections three concerning variance, identified in the uk, south africa, and brazil. santa clara county last week identified the bay area's first known case of the variant, first identified in brazil. alameda and not be counties are expected to move up into the orange tier on tuesday, taking a look now at where bay

area counties currently stand. moving from red to orange, means wineries can reopen indoor tasting rooms and bars, san francisco and santa clara county advanced tier last week, that allows more businesses to reopen with restrictions, and permits indoor dining at 50% capacity. to the peninsula where volunteers combed through linda mar state beach today, collecting discarded ppe, they found masks and gloves, along with sanitary wipes, and a lot of single use plastics so many people are eating out. supervisor, david, says a lot of it ends up in the ocean, or in storm drains where it can be deadly, to see life and birds. >> we want people to continue same time, people need to dispose of them properly. >> there is one, two, three, four, five, just from these two volunteers. and justin about five minutes of time. >>

tells us how the white house is trying to handle the surge >> tragedy on the us-mexico border, a nine-year-old girl has died while trying to cross the rio grande, the border patrol says they found her, her mother, and three-year-old brother unconscious on march 20, both the woman and boy survived. over the last month, officials say they have stopped an average of 5000 people a day, officials expecting that number to grow as we get closer to summer. >> all of the government officials tell us they are doing the best they can, but they are being overwhelmed, by sheer numbers. >> more than 18,000 unaccompanied minors, now in u.s. custody, that number increasing nearly 1000 in one day.

>> we're tracking warmer weather, warmer than this weekend, coming our way. today, we saw a little bit of a cooler change right along the coast, thankful for that fog to return for some of us. that is having a cooling effect in a lot of areas, 24 hour temperature change, 13 degrees cooler in san francisco, compared to this time yesterday. later on this evening, falling pm, we will start in the 40s tomorrow but the wind will pick up. we will check that tomorrow, that will eventually bring in some much warmer air, we will have those details in thste aht san jose. >> this is a real addition to the neighborhood. we are delighted about it. >> neighbors are excited about the new addition to their neighborhood, see just what it took to move and 11, a 111-year- old apartment building. art for all, we will check out an art experience today that

can see the building on a giant dolly being trucked to its new home just about 900 feet away. it is now located at the corner of fourth and reed streets, habitat for humanity plans to refurbish the 111-year-old building and convert it into affordable housing. one woman says it was worth the trip from menlo park to see this happen. >> it is a wonderful thing on all sorts of levels. it is preserving our wonderful old building, it is going to go to good use, everybody got together to work this out, it is just a win win win. time-lapse video shows the building being backed into its new lot, the whole process took about three hours. christians around the world are celebrating palm sunday today. while many are logging on from virtual services, pope francis did heard a traditional mass at st. peter's basilica in vatican city.

san francisco's ocean beach is being used as a canvas today, the earth scape art experience ventured out this afternoon, the team shared videos of some of its previous projects, you can see how this sand is transformed into intricate works of art, they are using rakes to do today's art project, it is supposed to be done before high tide so people will be able to see it

before it gets washed away. new developments on plans to bring back san diego's comic con. organizers have announced dates for its first in-person convention since 2019, this year it will kickoff on november 26, the day after thanksgivng. the hope is that by the holiday weekend, covid-19 restrictions will have eased enough to allow for large-scale public gatherings. , con will be a three-day event at the san diego convention center, capacity limits are still being ironed out. getting to the weather, no need to travel to san diego to get some sun, and fun out there. >> it feels like we hopped over spring, we are right in the middle of summer with these temperatures well above average by some 10 to 12 degrees. we're tracking even warmer weather coming in by about wednesday. it will get even warmer out here if you can believe that. a live look on the right-hand side of your screen, a little bit of cooling fog, clinging right to the coast, but most of us,

tomorrow, we will add some wind to the forecast. look at these numbers. this temperature profile looks like it could be june or july. we have that fall along the coast, half moon bay. it is chilly, 48 degrees, but you hop in and we are well into the 70s. nice and warm. 77 in concord, 73 in san ramon, 60 in oakland as that cooling fog begins to move into parts of the east bay, but the north bay is comfortable, 73 righ now. here is the live doppler seven along with satellite we have had this high-pressure anchore off the coast for the weekend, it brought about the warmer weather, the sunshine, this will get suppressed to the south tomorrow. what we are watching, waiting in the wings, this cold front will move into northern california. unfortunately, the atmosphere is so dry, it can't support any rainfall with this front. what it will do, it will kick up the wins tomorrow afternoon. by lunchtime, it looks like the strongest wind will likely be found along the coast, and we

will see wind gusts from time to time tomorrow gusting 20, to 30 miles per hour. what that will do, it will not only cool us off tomorrow afternoon, it will wipe out the fog, first thing in the morning. future weather watch is the fog gets shifted to the south, clear overnight tonight and we have a lot of sunshine way. overnight tonight, we will see temperatures mainly falling into the 40s, first thing tomorrow morning, and then temperatures slightly cooler tomorrow compared to today, but still all in all, it is warm. 71 for san jose tomorrow, 70 for cupertino, and a lot of sunshine, 68 in redwood city, 68 for matthew, it is windy in the city tomorrow, a lot of sunshine though, 64 for downtown san francisco. north bay, 74 and santa rosa, 72 in novato, the same in napa, the east bay, 69 for oakland, the same in union city, 70 in
