zoomed out on the usual suspects. that will be around through the morning commute because the winds are very light right now. that is the only place. it is pretty clear outside. the winds are very light, they are drifting to the south. some of that may move out toward petaluma. today will not be as warm as it was over the weekend. it will be a little breezy this afternoon. 58 at half moon bay. mid to upper 60s around san francisco, san mateo, palo alto and oakland. the winds will get more aggressive. we have a wind advisory and the full moon outside. we are hours away from one of the biggest trials in recent history. derek chauvin who was accused of killing george floyd on memorial day of last year.

>> reporter: george floyd's death in last may sparked one of the largest social justice movements in u.s. history. now, 10 months later, former police officer derek chauvin will stand trial. he was seen on video kneeling on george floyd's neck as he lay on the ground face down for almost 10 minutes. show ben faces manslaughter and second and 3rd degree murder charges. he has pleaded not guilty to all of them. chief legal analyst dan abramsbt trial. it is the united states ability to deal with policing. >> whether or not it is derek chauvin that caused the death of george floyd. >> extreme measures are being taken to keep this trial covi 19thentire courtrm s be soal . that includes spin jury and

allowed inside to witness the trial. that includes one member of floyd's family each day. we will have live coverage of the trial starting around 7:00 this morning. you will hear the opening statements from both the prosecution and defense. you can watch live right here on abc 7 or you can stream it on our connected tv apps available on apple tv, android tv. dozens of people to to the streets in dansville to rally for justice in the death of a black man who was shot and killed by police. officers had previously said that the man had a knife and was advancing toward the officer when he was shot. family members and his attorneys are questioning that. >> i just feel like my heart has just been ripped out. >> reporter: a father reacting after his 33-year-old son,

tyrell wilson, who suffered from mental health issues was shot and killed by a denville police officer earlier this month saying police should have de-escalated the situation instead of filing a shot that proved to be fatal. >> he shot my son in the face. he needs to be held accountable for that. >> they think just because he was homeless -- he had people that cared about him and loved him. i loved that boy to death. >> reporter: police had previously said that they responded to a report of someone throwing rocks onto interstate 680 in danville. upon arriving in the area, they came across wilson, later releasing this image of him and going on to say that he pulled out a folding knife and did not drop it like he was ordered to and advanced toward the officer. >> there was a question about someone throwing rocks. we don't know if that was that person or not. i can tell you everything i know about mr. wilson's addresses he is not the person.

>> reporter: dozens took to the streets of danville sunday including oscar grant's uncle bobby who believes that had tyrell been white, he would not have been shot. >> when it is a person of color, the engagement is different. >> apparently this deputy has a problem. he needs to be removed. >> reporter: the family's attorney tells me at this point, they have not filed a lawsuit but that could change in the coming weeks. >> the officer who fired the fatal shot, andrew hall, is on paid administrative leave as is department policy. investigators and the va's office are reviewing the incident. call also d kieda 20. if you are currently eligible to receive a covid-19 vaccine, better get to stepping because they will be a rush when eligibility expands pretty soon. in contra costa county, that will happen as soon as this week. the county expects to open

appointments to everyone 16 and up in the next few days. that would be ahead of the rest of the state's timeline. california plans to expand eligibility to anyone 50 and up on thursday and then two weeks later, april 15, anyone 16 or older will be able to sign up. the question now, our local counties ready for this rush? do they have enough supply? we take a closer look at that coming up in our next half hour. right now let's talk about alameda county and napa county to find out if they will move from the red tier to the orange tier. san francisco, marin county and santa clara county join san mateo in the orange tier last week. that allows for more ioand incr limits. a major step forward in reopening schools. san rafael city schools will be welcoming on students back to the classroom five days a week. matt boone joins us live from coleman elementary school with what this means for distance

learning. >> reporter: good morning. basically what it means is goodbye distance learning, allowing students to come to campus for all of their instruction or at least the vast majority of it. a life without zoom as many people have been waiting for. the san rafael elementary school district has had some version of in person learning tssi into morning and afternoon cohorts, doing some from school and some from home. mondays have been entirely online so far. that will change today with elementary and middle school students coming in for four and half hours of instruction without any distance learning in the afternoon. superintendent says the district has not had any on campus coronavirus transmission so far. they still to comply with all cdc recommended safety guidelines and they plan to have desks spaced at least 4b to part. in the cases where that is not

possible, classes will be held in libraries or other large rooms on campus. in total, 2700 students will be making this transition. about 10% of students have opted out but they will still be able to learn remotely. some classes like art and music will also be held remotely after school. that part will still be digital. now, the district caution, especially with spring break coming up. they are telling all parents not to do any out-of-state travel and to avoid having any large in prison gatherings, all things that could jeopardize the safety of the students if an outbreak occurs. that would obviously change what they are able to do on matt boone, abc 7 news. tomorrow, students will inthe oakland school district for the very first time. pre-k and second grade students were able to choose whether to go into school or not and

teachers are allowed to decide between on-site and remote learning. only about one third have chosen to go back to the classroom. some schools don't have enough techers to reopen. some corporate uber employees are returning to work in san francisco today. the right healing company is opening its new office. the new headquarters will open at 20% capacity and on a voluntary basis. employees will have to wear masks, be socially distanced, and do daily health screenings that include temperature checks. you can see where your county stands anytime you like by heading find our exclusive reopening tracking tool. we are updating each county as we get new information. the mayor of nashville has declared a state of emergency after record-breaking rainfall that left parts of the state underwater. the torrential rains flooded homes. at least four people were killed. more than 130 people had to be rescued.

welcome back. there was a somber prayer vigil for families impacted by violence including those affected by the violence against asian americans. several oakland pastors at a vigil at carter park last night. the pastors also got prayers for the families of victims in the mass shootings. abc 7 is focused on issues involving race and social justice as part of our commitment to build a better bay area. we were in san francisco where a church held a rally against aapi hate. >> this is a time to stand and speak. >> reporter: after joey chen spoke to a crowd at san

francisco civic center, a call to action to stop hate and violence against the aapi community. >> in christ's name, we want to be about peace, reconciliation. >> reporter: this rally brought the faith-based community together, organized by the asian american christian collaborative, members who are disgusted by ongoing scenes of violence. many churches are reaching out to seniors. >> we are trying to be there and show up for them so they feel not scared to step out of their homes. >> reporter: pastor khris davis lending his support as an ally. >> several months ago, we were down here marching and making a statement together. many of my asian brothers and sisters did with me with blm. >> reporter: hundreds of people march from hillsborough to burlingame to stop hate and violence, organized by families who can't be silent anymore. >> we could try to stop this together and focus more on love.

>> reporter: phil quan helped organize the rally after his own mother was harassed at a gas station for simply asking directions. >> she asked them very nicely can you please move your car so i can get out of here? he said no, this is my country, you can't tell me what to do. >> reporter: in milpitas, this crowd on the move, denouncing hate and bigotry against asian americans, calling for justice and equal rights for all. the rally at civic center was held in conjunction with 15 others across the country. n ericans and pacific islanders. a group of seventh graders organized this youth rising rally. it started at berkeley's aquatic park where attendees listened to speakers with messages of empowerment. then, they marched to the

today marks the start of full- time in-person learning for 2700 element in middle school students impacted. number four, uber employees are opening their new mission bay office for in-person work. the new headquarters will open at hundred percent capacity and on a voluntary basis. employees can work remotely until september 13. be a little bit cooler, especially our inward areas. that is also going to preclude us from windy conditions. number six, talking about the winds this morning, the chp has issued a high wind advisory for the san mateo bridge and also the benicia bridge this morning. number seven, comic-con said to return to san diego the day after thanksgiving. it will be a three day in- person event.

there is a massive operation going on right now to get that cargo ship that is stuck in the suez canal out of there. right now, it is causing a major shipping traffic jam. >> reporter: in this morning's first look, the ever given, that massive cargo ship blocking the suez canal is on its way to freedom. horns sounding off on the ship in celebration asked about reinforcement and high tide allowed crews to partially refloat the 200,000 tug carrier that has been blocking one of the world's busiest shipping canals for almost a full week. the logjam that could be seen from space started tuesday. strong winds contributing to the vessel, shifting sideways and running aground. the suez canal is a critical shortcut between asia and europe. without a, ships would be forced to take a more expensive, more dangerous journey around africa that could take 12 days or more. billions of dollars of goods are at a standstill.

temperatures. inland we've got low to mid 70s in the north bay and east bay. mid-50s to near 70 around the bay but the upper 50s to low 50s along blustery coast. the winds will get even faster as we get into the evening and overnight hours. we can get gusts up to 55 mph from 8:00 this evening until 10:00 tomorrow. local counties are getting ready to roll out vaccines to larger groups. on thursday, the state is allowing anyone 50 end of to get a shot. two weeks after that, the points will be open to anyone 16 and up. this morning, we are looking into whether bay area counties are ready for the influx. we spoke with the ucsf expert who says counties need to change their strategy. >> reporter: the day is approaching. come april 1, the entire state will open vexing eligibility to those 50 and older. >> it is going to be a huge

you can find all of our vaccine stories in one place, www.abcnews7.com you can submit questions to our team, find latest headlines. san rafael city schools getting rid of distance learning and bringing elementary school students back to the classroom five days a week. today is marking the first day of that new schedule. education is part of the focus in building a better bay area and matt boone is live at coleman elementary school. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. students will start showing up this will be the first ay they will back in school since this pandemic began over a yesafael elementary school district has had some form of in-person learning since last november. that is when they began this am/pm model where one cohort would come together four days a week in the morning and then do distance learning in the afternoon while another group to the opposite.

this new schedule gets rid of any asynchronous learning and will have students on campus for 4.5 hours a day. not much as a normal times but still more than they had before. there will be some distance learning for extracurricular courses like art and music. 2700 students will be making the transition well 10% of the student body will remain at home doing distance learning. the district says desks will be spaced at least 4 feet apart and classes will hi that requir space will be moved to places like the library or the cafeteria to ensure social distancing. one other thing that is on the district's mind is how this coincides with spring break and easter coming up. holidays always presenting a concern for the spread of this virus. they are urging families to take this seriously and not to go on any trips outside the state and not hold any outdoor

large gatherings that could potentially create an outbreak and jeopardize the start of this new schedule. this week, we are expecting new details biden's multitrillion dollar economic recovery package. the first part focuses on rebuilding roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. biden pledged $2 trillion in investments in nuclear energy, support public transit, and to repair roads and bridges. a separate plan is expected later in april that includes childcare and healthcare. amusement parks are reopening in california. what thrill seekers can expect the six flags. we are getting a better idea of what you can expect at baseball games when the new mlb season kicks off this week. a check of the weather with mike nicco. >> i kind of like the 60 game schedule last year because every game counted.
