abc's ike ejiochi continues our coverage of the trial. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. on day two one of the more striking moments came when an off-duty firefighter took the stand and spoke about how police officers prevented her from jumping into action. this morning, in day two of the derek chauvin trial the eyes and ears of bystanders on the stand. >> he cried for his mom. he was in pain. >> reporter: darnella who filmed those harrowing last minutes of george floyd's life taking the stand. >> it seemed like he knew -- it seemed like he knew it was over for him. >> reporter: the day featured testimony from several bystanders at the scene. first donald williams, the mixed martial artist telling jurors he felt he just witnessed a murder. throughout day two, several minors offering testimony. >> at one point i saw him put more and more weight onto him. >> reporter: the biggest moment of the day, minneapolis firefighter genevieve hansen off duty at the time of the incident. >> i literally watched police

officers not take a pulse and not do anything to save a man, and i am a first responder myself. >> reporter: her testimony became argumentative after defense attorney eric nelson pressed her if she would have been fighting a fire herself if a crowd showed up. suggesting chauvin was distracted. >> and would you describe other people's demeanors as upset or angry? >> it's -- it's -- i don't know if you've seen anybody be killed but it's upsetting. >> you will not argue with counsel. they have the right to ask questions. your job is to answer them. >> i was finishing my answer. >> i will determine when your 46 answer is done, and so do not argue with the court. do not argue with counsel. answer the questions, do not volunteer information that is not requested. >> reporter: now the judge ended the day halfway through hansen's testimony and she'll be back in court today. andrew, mona. >> ike, thank you. breaking overnight two u.s.

capitol police officers are suing former president trump in connection with the january riot. their civil lawsuit claims the officers suffered physical injuries and emotional trauma as a result of violent confront takes inside the capitol. the officers cite several of trump's treats and statements for inviting violence. they're demanding $375,000 each along with other damages. no response yet from the former president. also breaking overnight a bombshell allegation against a rising star in the republican party. matt gaetz is accused to having a relationship with an underage girl. this morning, congressman matt gaetz is denying that he had a relationship with a minor. >> it is a horrible allegation and it is a lie. >> reporter: abc news has confirmed the florida lawmaker is under investigation by the justice department for an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. investigators are examining whether gaetz violated federal sex trafficking laws by allegedly paying for the girl to

travel with him. the investigation was first reported in "the new york times." >> so this is a serious investigation that was serious enough that even the highest levels of the justice department incle attorney general bill barr said that continue. >> reporter: guaido is a rising star and staunch ally of former president trump. >> seems to me that impeachment is an itch that doesn't go away with just one scratch. >> reporter: gaetz has not been charged with a crime. on fox news last night he claimed the allegations were part of an extortion plot by a former justice department official. >> on march 16th my father got a text message demanding a meeting wherein a person demanded $25 million in exchange for making horrible sex trafficking allegations against me go away. our family was so troubled by that, we went to the local fbi and the fbi and department of justice were so concerned about this attempted extortion of a member of congress they asked my dad to wear a wire which he did with the former department of

justice official. >> what congressman gaetz is say something that somebody then found out about it and used that information to try to get money out of his family. >> reporter: in an interview with "the washington post" the former justice department official denies the extortion claim. a source tells abc news federal investigators started looking into gaetz's alleged relationship last summer. in the meantime, gaetz is reportedly preparing to leave congress to take a job with the conservative news network newsmax. new york city police arrested the man they say brutally beat an asian woman on the street. the 65-year-old victim suffered a head injury. it happened in front of an apartment building, but the doorman lay on the door as she lay on the ground. >> closed the door on a woman lying on the sidewalk, isn't that perfect symbolism of what is happening right now. they said to her, eff you.
