maybe i will run upstairs between hits and join you. i don't have a members only jacket but i have some stuff from the 80s. let's take a look at what is going on on live doppler 7 air is really dry outside. we have that light, offshore breeze. what does it do? it puts us into record high territory. we have a potential record high from 84 in san francisco to 84 in napa to 85 in richmond and oakland and livermore. 87 in san jose. it will be a warm one. even 82 out to half moon bay. we will take a look at the microclimates to see if we can find anymore record highs today or tomorrow. there are some encouraging news in the fight against covid- 19. pfizer just announced this morning that it's vaccine is 100% effective in kids ages 12 to 15. jobina is at the live desk with more. >> pfizer is the first vaccine to show data from a trial involving children and it is a

promising first step toward vaccinating americans. the news comes from the results of a pfizer trial that enrolled around 2200 children ages 12 to 15. some participants received a placebo. others got the vaccine. several with a placebo developed covid-19 but none of the vaccinated children became infected. this is promising news. >> this is really a high level of efficacy. no side effects but we are seeing so far. we will have the fda do the full evaluation but this is terrific. >> pfizer says it will ask the fda to update vaccine authorization to children 12 and older and many are seeing this as a promising turning point as schools prepare for a greater return to in person learning in the fall. vaccine availability is growing in the east bay. contra costa county is the first county in california

where anyone 16 and up is eligible to get the vaccine. this comes as the county opened up a new drive-through vaccination site at six flags hurricane harbor waterpark in concord. once the site is running at full speed, it will be able to give shots to 15,000 people a week. even before that, county says they were thousands of available appointments for this week. >> because we have unfilled appointment slots, we want to get shots in arms as quickly as possible. we don't want these variants to out run us. the county is making it available now for those 16 and older. basically no restrictions to get vaccinated. >> curnt coa county's adults are fully vaccinated. there is expected to be a big rush for vaccine appointments across the state starting tomorrow because that is when anyone 50 and up will become eligible. supply is still a very critical factor. matt boone is at the new vaccine site at hurricane harbor in concord this morning.

>> reporter: good morning, kumasi. this site will be key in that expansion of eligibility but contra costa county, as we already know, has moved into that 50 and overpays already. starting tomorrow, that will be the case for the entire state. the state has vaccinated about 2 million of the people in that category but that still leaves 11 million people 50 and older that have not received a shot yet. this decision is being made with the knowledge that an increasing and steady supply of vaccine is heading our way but what has always been the challenge for counties and healthcare providers is it is hard to schedule appointments just on the promise of having that increased dose allocation. even with mass vaccination sites running at full capacity, it will take weeks to administer that many doses. a member of the california vaccine advisory board says the rush to find an appointment on the website tomorrow will be something like we have not done since the pandemic began. >> in a way, it feels like we

are trying to get concert tickets. that is my other concern. when people start going online on april 1 how long are they going to be waiting. >> reporter: california is expecting to get 2.5 million doses a week by mid april. that will increase to about 3 million a week by the end of april. right now, the state is urging anyone 50 and older to go to the sign up. put your information in so that once you are eligible, you will get the notification and be ready to go. abc 7 news. rd, matt boe, today, 500 farmworkers in santa clara county are said to receive their second dose of covid-19 vaccine. it has been a month since they got there first vaccination at monterey mushrooms farm in morgan hill. many of them are employed by monterey mushrooms or other nearby farms.

organizers say it is fitting that they received their second vaccine on cesar chavez day. first lady jill biden will be in central california. she is meeting with farmworkers in kern county. the first lady will tour a vaccination site at the 40 acres, the former headquarters of the united farm workers union founded by civil rights leaders sepal shabbos. governor newsom will join dr. biden there. organizers picked today for their fourth vaccine clinic at the 40 acres in honor of shabbos's birthday. businesses are opening in a less restrictive orange tier today. speculum in county and santa cruz county moved from red orange yesterday. the orange tier means that indoor gym capacities can go from 10% to 25%. restaurants, movie theaters, and churches can increase capacity to 50% and bars can reopen outdoors without food. napa county was on the list to advance but it did not make

the cut because of a rise in cases last week. the county is in the red tier for now. >> reporter: all eyes are on the veterans home of california . county officials tell us that in the last week, there has been a covid-19 ak this location. >> we are trying to understand what might have happened, who alfredo pedrosa says the numbers have been headed in the right direction countywide. because of the increased positivity rate, the county will stay in the red tier instead of moving into the orange. >> it was unfortunate. we are hopeful that this is not a matter of weeks or days. >> reporter: more restrictive measures will be in place while indoor dining is allowed at 25% capacity. the majority of the dining will still be outside. >> for me, it makes me a little

we are expecting more dramatic testimony in the trial of the former police officer charged with george floyd's death. an off-duty minneapolis firefighter who says she was stopped from trying to save floyd's life will be back on the stand. this will be the third day of testimony in this trial. >> the first two days were emotional and that times hard to watch. firefighter genevieve hansen told the force when she walked up to the scene and saw floyd's condition, she was immediately concerned. at the time, hansen was off duty but she did identify herself as a firefighter. hansen says she asked if she could provide medical help for at least show officers how to check for a pulse and perform first-aid. there was a tense exchange with derek chauvin's defense attorney. he claims chauvin was distracted by a crowd that showed up which prevented him to responding to george floyd 's rapidly deteriorating condition. then suggested the same thing would have happened to hansen. >> i would be confident in doing my job and there is nothing anyone could say that

san francisco one shopowners on the lookout for a burglar who may be a connoisseur. the owner of wine boutique shared this surveillance video of someone trying to break in last thursday. he left the scene empty-handed after setting up an alarm but three other whiny shops in the westville neighborhood also had similar burglaries last week. the thief seems to be targeting only rare and expensive brands that are valued at hundreds of dollars a bottle. >> being a wine bar set up, we don't have pricey bottles. it is a wine list. the person would have to know what they were after.

into contra costa's efforts to expand that vaccine eligibility to anyone 16 and over. this site just opened, is a drive-through vaccination site. when it is at full capacity, they expect to deliver 15,000 doses each week to people coming through. last week, the county said they received 84,000 doses. that is up 30,000 from the week before. they had many open sign-up spots but part of that is due to the fact that the county has been getting doses from the federal government as well for their 11 federal health clinics in the county. still, they now expect a rush and that the sign-up system could be backed up but they recommend trying as soon as possible. >> the faster you sign-up, the faster you will get an appointment. someone who is 16 who signs up today will most likely get an

appointment faster than someone who is 16 and signs up next week. >> one important thing to note about contra costa residents, these appointments must be made to the county's website or their vaccine phoneline. can be made through the state's my turn website yet but officials say once you put your information in, you can immediately get some sort of notification of whether you can schedule that appointment immediately or you will be notified in the next couple of days when you might be able to get that spot. they also plan on opening some of their vaccine sites up to walk-ins. you won't even need an appointment. that will be happening in the next couple days. in concord, matt boone, abc 7 news. the state will be opening back seems to anyone 50 end up tomorrow. it could be kind of tricky to get an appointment but there are some alternative ways to get a dose.

>> reporter: we know that searching for a covid-19 vaccine has been anything but easy. most of us have struggled to secure an appointment, even as california expands eligibility. >> it is good to continue checking the website. there may be some appointments tomorrow. >> reporter: santa clara county has a no wrong door policy in effect which means you don't have to get vaccinated through your private healthcare provider but many people are only exploring county run vaccination sites, creating a bottleneck of sorts when they could be looking at other options. >> we received 32,000 doses that can be used for first appointments. we have put those up. most of those have been taken already. >> reporter: retail pharmacies such as walgreens, safeway, and others get their allocation directly from the federal government. those appointments can be found online but if you have not searched before, you will need to create a profile in order to see what is available. >> the threat is very real.
