normally quiet neighborhood say they were stunned to hear gunfire. >> there's about ten gunshots. the cops running right there, look at that. >> word of the shooting triggered a massive police response. heavily armed officers swarming the scene. and armored vehicles blocking the streets. officers say when they showed up the shooter was still firing. >> upon arrival the officers discovered shots that were actively being fired and our ivers did engage in an officer involved shooting and discovered four victims that are deceased. one of those victims does include a child. >> police say the shooter is in critical condition. there's no word yet on a possible motive. more information as we get it. we turn now to minneapolis and the derek chauvin trial. >> the former police officer charged with killing george floyd has been heard publicly for the first time defending his treatment of floyd on that fateful day. his statement part of a series of graphic videos shown in court.

this morning legal analysts are weighing in on where the case stands, but first a warning, some of the images that you're about to see are disturbing. this morning, day four derek chauvin trial with more witnesses set to take the stand after a day of dramatic and emotional testimony wednesday. including from charles mcmillan, a neighbor who saw george floyd struggling and urged him to comply with the officers. >> i was telling mr. floyd, mr. floyd, just get in the car >> reporter: mcmillan was heard on the police body camera verd in court. >> i'm not trying to win. >> reporter: george floyd needed to plead with the officers as he refused to get in the backseat saying he was claustrophobic. >> don't do me like that. >> get in this car. we can talk. >> i'm claustrophobic. i'm claustrophobic, man. >> reporter: the officers then pulled him from the car. >> get in the car. >> i'm not getting in the car. aagh.

moment? >> i can't. feeling helpless. i don't have a moment. i understand him. my mom died june 25th. >> reporter: also on that body camera video the first publicly heard defense of officer chauvin's actions in his own words. >> i got to control this guy because he's a sizable guy. looks like he's -- >> reporter: jurors also saw video of george floyd before the tragedy unfolded inside the convenience store. chris martin who worked there said floyd was friendly but appeared to be high. he says floyd paid for the cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill and told his manager who called the police. the store worker then watched the tragedy unfold and

he says he felt guilty. >> what was going through your mind? >> disbelief and guilt. >> okay. why guilt? >> if i would have just not taken the bill this could have been avoided. >> legal analysts say chauvin's defense team says there was resistance from floyd even if it was passive resistance. chauvin's unemotional demeanor could hurt his standing with the jury. it continues today at 10:30 on abc newslive. we have new information about the scandal surrounding florida congressman matt gaetz. investigators are looking into allegations that gaetz had a sexual relationship with at least one minor including a 17-year-old which he denies. now sources say the investigation is looking into the congressman's conduct in the other case but in other states
