degrees cooling for most of you. more details in a few minutes. lisa, thank you. for the second time in eight days, fremont police shot and killed someone. this latest incident happened last night. police detective say a man was armed with a gun in the parking lot of a hyatt place hotel. they say the man had outstanding felony warrants and was being watched by the departments gun violence reduction team. when detectives tried to take the man into custody, he refused to comply. detectives say they deployed a police dog. that is when the suspect pulled out a gun and officers opened fire. >> once i saw the unmarked car going that direction with the siren, i said oh my god, what's going on? as i was going to see what was going on, that is where he saw the gunshots. >> the suspect died at the scene. fremont pd not sharing the specifics about the suspect or the types of crimes he may be have been involved in. alameda county da will invoke investigate the shooting.the sh.

young as 12. the fda has not yet authorized it use for anyone under 16. happening today, a new permanent vaccination site opening in east palo alto. they've been hit hard by covid- 19 and underserved in the vaccine rollout. abc7 news news reporter matt boone is at the middle school where the parking lot has been converted to help at the clinic underway. >> reporter: good morning, jobina. yeah, when you look at the numbers, that's why this site really needs to get up and running. according to the county, only 27% of eligible adults in east palo alto have received at least one dose right now. that is compared to about 45% of adults in san mateo county on average. the site here, as you mentioned, at cesar chavez middle school, it'll take over the parking lot, and it will have the johnson & johnson vaccine, which requires only one dose, forgoing the need to make follow-up appointments. is also the first in the county

today. and we have a problem right now, if you're heading out toward the karelia junction, coming out of napa, there is an accident blocking the connector ramp, eastbound 12 12 found av. they shuts down at this point, because of the crash. right now, a lot of folks are heading on to red top road as an alternate, but that is causing delays there. as you continue on eastbound 80, it's still in effect through the dixon area, but i think that one will clear. this is due to an earlier overturned crash. we will keep you posted on that. in the south bay, it has been quiet. here's a look at 101, and headlights moving northbound on 101. across your screen, going from left to right, there was a stall reported near the alameda, blocking a lane. 101 in san rafael, looking good. southbound traffic on the hand side. looks good toward the golden gate bridge. it is starting to get crowded at the bay bridge toll plaza.

at least 40 people are dead, dozens are hurt after a high-speed train crashed into a driverless truck in eastern taiwan. the collision caused the train to partially derail inside a tunnel. nearly 400 people were on board. survivors had to climb out of windows from each carriage, then walked to safety on the roof of the train. and officials of the truck slid from a construction site on the hillside above onto the tracks

more pronounced tomorrow inland. looking at average temperatures for the easter weekend. let's start in the south bay, where he will have sunshine, maybe a few clouds around, 70 in santa clara, 75 in milpitas, along the peninsula. afternoon sea breeze at about 20 miles per hour, bringing down to the low 70s in san mateo. san bruno in the mid and upper 60s, looking at 65 downtown. we will call it partly cloudy. that's about 13 degrees cooler than yesterday. and the cooldown here, maybe 15 degrees cooler from 77 santa rosa, 79 in vallejo. on the east bay, we will see mid-70s for the union city to castro valley. oakland checking in at 70 2j. you had inland, we will see about 80 in walnut creek. still well above average here, but no 90s in the forecast today. you won't be sweating it out, but we will bring the numbers all brown back down near average as we get into saturday. we have been teasing with the perhaps rain in the extended outlook. it stays offshore, cut off low not getting anywhere near california. we are in the middle of next week.

you'll notice that we are looking at the low clouds, the stratus and temperatures have come down. this morning around the bay, due to that onshore flow, and with the low clouds and fog here, we are going to get partial clearing at the coast. so looking at partly sunny day, say in half moon bay and pacifica. with numbers just near 60 degrees. right now, it is 40 in santa rosa with the fog, 51 by the delta, 47 in livermore. compared to 24 hours ago, we are beginning to see the changes here from about 2 to 5 degrees with cooler numbers to start out. the fog up in the north bay, five mile visibility. let's take you through the morning with temperatures in the 50s. 9:00, sunny skies, clouds lingering at the coast. by 2:00 them in the mid and upper 70s. those yellows and oranges indicate the warmer weather. still above average, not as warm. we will talk about everyone coming down to average as we begin the weekend.

>> lisa, thank you. don't eat inside at a restaurant, don't travel, declares health officer has a list of don'ts for you this morning. she says the tier level may be orange, but she is seeing red flags. the warning comes as more vaccination sites are opening across the bay area, and abc seven news reporter matt boone is live at one of them in east palo alto. good morning, matt. >> reporter:, good morning, reggie. santa clara county health officials say they are seeing a concerning rise in the number of variance in the area, which could erode some of the progress that the community has made in this process. it's hard to know for sure how many variants are out there, because genomic testing in the u.s. is very limited, but from the sample they have been receiving recently, santa clara county health officials say the proportion linked to the more transmissible variance is climbing. in fact, every variant identified by the cdc from the uk, south africa, brazil, and our own california variant has now been detected in santa

clara county. even though more things are opening back up, as the tears change, health officer sara cody says, just because it's legal to do something doesn't mean you should. >> keep wearing your mask, delay your travel. don't indoor dying, don't go to indoor bars. don't host an indoor gathering at your home. even if it is allowed under the state rules, don't do it. it is not safe, not yet. >> reporter: of course, the big difference from the last winter surge is that we do have the vaccine. though with the santa clara county regulation of 2 million people, only about 37% of the population has been vaccinated so far. that is according to the county's website. though they say that number could be underreported. now here in east palo alto over the sanitary line in san mateo county, that number is also quite low here. it's only 27% in east palo

alto. so they are opening up this new site here at cesar chavez middle school with the johnson & johnson vaccine, hoping to get that number up quickly. reporting live in east palo alto, matt boone, abc7 news. thank you, matt. the race to: vaccinate for covid-19. reaching 5000 admissions a day, meanwhile, the u.s. continues to see more variance spread. michigan is now reporting the first confirmed case of the brazilian variant. the state is also seeing a sharp rise in hospitalizations. dr. anthony fauci says, the state opened up too soon. >> the results, i think of being manifested in what you are seeing in michigan. >> as for the vaccine, pfizer said the vaccine is still highly effective, after six months. it also appears to work against the south african variant. meanwhile, johnson & johnson says, they will still deliver 100 million doses by the end of may, even after the setback in manufacturing, where 15 million future doses were ruined.

the cdc now says it is unclear whether vaccinated people can spread the virus. in an interview earlier this week, dr. rochelle walensky, the center director, suggested people who are vaccinated never become infected or transmit the virus to others. but now in a reversal, cdc officials say that wilensky was speaking broadly and it is still possible for fully vaccinated people to get covid- 19. however, it is unclear whether they can spread it to others. new this morning, the fda has authorized two changes to madonnas moderna's covid-19 vaccinations. they can safely extract up to 11 doses from the additional 10 dose vials. they could contain up to 15 doses each. those changes will be added to instructions for healthcare workers. the dosing updates should help increase supplies and speed up vaccinations, as the u.s. nears 100 million inoculations. modernity moderna plans to

ship those vials in the coming weeks. el camino health and linkedin are joining forces to expand the number of vaccines delivered in sunnyvale. is located inside an unused building on the linkedin campus, located on westmont avenue. as soon as the supply or vaccine supply improves, linkedin said the site could deliver as many as 3000 shots a day. san francisco mayor london extended to anyone 50 and older and those eligible giving them a shot. >> i know that i'm smiling right now. it has everything to do with the fact that all of what we have done, and everything we have talked about in the past, in terms of where we need to get to, we are finally getting there. >> she says san francisco's rate of vaccination tops federal and state averages. 82% of residents age 65 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 62% have been fully vaccinated overall. at least 45% of all san franciscans have received their
