was killed by a knife-wielding suspect who rammed into a barricade. >> and overnight, police lining the streets of washington, d.c., saluting that motorcade you see there that was carrying the remains of fallen officer william evans. >> this second deadly attack on capitol police this year is raising concerns about security just days after the last of the fences were taken down around the capitol following the january 6th insurrection. >> and investigators this morning still looking for a motive for the deadly attack. so we go back to abc's faith abubey who's on capitol hill with the very latest. good morning, faith. >> reporter: good morning to you, whit. that violent and deadly scene unfolded here on capitol hill just over my shoulder. this morning, investigators are combing through that suspect's background trying to understand why police say he rammed that vehicle into the capitol police officers. this morning, sources tell abc news the now-deceased suspect, noah green, a man in his 20s appeared at the north security checkpoint in this blue sedan. >> the suspect rammed his car

into two of our officers and then hit the north barricade barrier. >> reporter: police say green then got out of the vehicle and lunged towards the two officers capitol police firing at the suspect. those inside the capitol building forced into a lockdown. >> no entry or exit is permitted at this time at any building of the complex. >> reporter: investigators are taking a close look at some of his possible social media posts. but no clear motive has been established. two officers and the suspect taken to area hospitals. but less than two hours later this heartbreaking announcement. >> one of our officers has succumbed to his injuries. >> reporter: officer william an billy, was an 18-year veteran of the capitol police force, flashing red and blue lights winding through the streets of d.c. in a somber procession.re, friend of evans, says this loss is immeasurable. >> it is incredibly sad and just

surreal. >> reporter: the incident re-opening wounds yet to heal from the january 6th insurrection when a mob of donald trump supporters attacked the capitol building. >> the scab got ripped off again here today. we'll be reviewing everything at this point including the fencing. >> reporter: much of that fencing put up after the insurrection had been removed and the thousands of national guard members deployed to protect the grounds have been reduced to roughly 2,300. and this morning, here on capitol hill, the flags are still flying at half-staff in honor of officer evans. we are also told that the other officer who was also rammed with the vehicle is recovering from his injuries and he's expected to survive. eva. >> some good news in the midst of all of that bad news this morning. faith, thank you so much. now to the cdc issuing new travel guidelines for americans who are fully vaccinated but at the same time asking people not to travel unless they have to. the announcement coming as more

age of 18 have received at least one dose of the vaccine. more than 22% are fully vaccinated. abc's transportation correspondent gio benitez is at newark airport along with easter holiday travelers. good morning again to you, gio. >> reporter: hey, eva, good morning again. yeah, this could be the busiest travel weekend since the pandemic began. for weeks now we have been seeing extremely busy airports. now, the cdc is saying that fully vaccinated americans can travel at low risk to themselves while wearing masks but still recommending against nonessential travel. now, here's what you need to know. if flying domestically the cdc says you do not need to get tested before or after travel or self-quarantine. but if flying internationally, your destination may require a test, and you still need to show a negative test before boarding a flight back to america. again, this guidance is only for those who have been fully vaccinated. guys. >> all right, gio, some good

a little earlier this year. that's been the ongoing trend, obviously, climate change having a hand in this. that's potomac park, probably ohio drive. this is the time of year where we're usually down there celebrating the blossoms with -- in a festival. hopefully next year we'll get to do that. all right, temperatures tomorrow will bounce back. so a chilly start to your easter morning festivities and then jumping into the 60s and 70s even so we'll go from being below average and record-breaking low temperatures yesterday and today and eastern two-thirds of the country to temps that will be 10 to 15 degrees above average and mild conditions and mostly dry through the middle part of the week good saturday morning. here's a look at santa cruz, temperatures near 50, low 60s today but the clouds will be tough to scour out at the coastline. temperatures coming down in the inland valley. we'll see a gradual warming

>> good morning to you. i'm glad i'm with a fellow procrastinator. so for easter eggs, we love the idea of tie-dyeing eggs. because it's really easy, fun, affordable. use things you probably already have at home. coffee filters, some rubber gloves because it will get messy, some food coloring. obviously the eggs and a spray bottle of water. so all you're going to do is wrap the egg in the coffee filter. twist tie it on. you're going to take the food dye and just randomly do an assortment of colors, and this is where the kids can really have fun. they can do messy on purpose which they love. spray it with the spray bottle. let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes and then once you're done you'll run it under cool water, dry them off and then let them completely dry and what you get is this really fun marbled sort easter eggs so we had a lot of fun doing those. easy, affordable and very good for last minute. >> and that is what i may be doing this saturday afternoon

with the kids and, of course, a holiday celebration is made better with dessert. dessert of all kind. what are we making this morning, om the "go housekein test kitchen. these are chocolate easter nuts. guys, get in there and start decorating. we made these and used chocolate chips, peanut butter melted down and then the kids had a really good time decorating them and then also eating the goodies on top of them. this is just -- this is just some dyed shredded coconut and then you can really have some fun, janai, and just do little eggs or jelly beans or what they love is do is peeps and they eat the peeps. it takes under an hour to make them. was it fun to make them? >> yes. >> even more fun t i see your easter baskets there. we got them here. your own spin on them and they look so easy. >> they are, and this is a tip for the easter bunny or for whomever is doing easter baskets in your house.

benedict you got to have the hollandaise sauce in there. what you have, three egg yolks like so, a little cider vinegar you like heat.use as much or as, >> i like heat. bring the heat. >> but feel free, you know, dealer's choice. what you want to do then is whisk the yolks. you have here a pot of boiling water. it's a soft boil. we're making hollandaise, not scrambled eggs. as you whisk it, when it starts to come together get that nice sauce-like consistency, slowly but gradually put in the melted butter. that will give you that velvety delicious. >> all right, david, david, walk us -- the final step here. we're almost out of time. we'll put this together, right? i've got the -- >> let's compile a plate.
