this is abc 7 news. >> i missed it, a lot. >> a lot of people have. for the first time in over a year, a major theme park is open to the public. good evening and thank you for joining us, i'm dion lynn. it could be one of the biggest steps forward in our return to normal since the pandemic began.

some bay area theme parks, opening rides today. cornell bernard joins us from six flags discovery kingdom, in vallejo, where lots of families are having some fun. talk about a nice assignment and lots of smiles to be had. >> reporter: yeah, for sure. and it's about timeon so many smiles around the park, today. 17 rides are now fully operating good today, the general public is being welcomed back to this theme park at 15% capacity. first up for many families, the roller coasters, of course. >> are you guys ready to ride >> that would be a yes from everyone who waited to ride the joker roller coaster. david and mariah, came from sacramento. >> i'm really excited, but this one, when i told her they were opening back up, she started shaking. >> it was just like i missed it a lot. like to make the official announcement on monday, or tuesday. he pointed to the state's vaccination effort and low positivity rate as reasons to make the modifications. and here's a look at california's numbers for today. estate reported, the positivity rate did not change. it is still at 1.8%. california has hit a milestone with vaccinations more than 7 million are now fully vaccinated against covid-19. and part of building a better bay area is tracking the vaccine rollout and the ongoing effort for equity. east palo alto officials welcomed by community members and a newly opened site aimed at closing the distribution gap. cesar chavez raven wood'sraven middle school is in its second full day of vaccinations. officials say supply of the johnson & johnson single-dose vaccine was doubled to 2000 shots in the last 48 hours.

questionabc 7 vaccine team. air travel is taking off with a record number of passengers, since yesterday. new guidance released by the cdc suggests people who are fully vaccinated can safely travel, still. the cdc though does not recommend travel at this time, because of a recent rise in cases. and they also suggest unvaccinated people avoid all nonessential travel. not, now to a group asian activists group >> the group marched from medicine park to chinatown, members of the group include black and latino residents, standing in solidarity with the

how nice is this! pinwheels are spinning outside a south bay hospital, symbolizing children waiting for organ donation. lucile packard to the hospital is making national donate month , with the pinwheels, each, representing a child on the transparent transplant list. a pinwheels is supported by a single stem, symbolizing one organ donor can save up to eight lives. the san francisco municipal transportation agency showed off a new collaboration with local artists in the bayview.

the stanford women's team, playing in the national championship. arizona, tomorrow, 3:00 on espn. stanford survived the final seconds last night, when south carolina missed not one, but two shots on the final possession of the game. their opponent, arizona, beat yukon by 10, that sets up a champion game for the conference of champions. for most of the season, stanford played on the road. that experience is paying dividends now. >> we have competitive, motivated, talented, really strong women on our team here it and they have dug deep. i think that off the court experience made us tougher, stronger, more determined. well it's an advantage for us when we were on the road for almost two months straight. when they came to the bubble in san antonio, they didn't know what to expect.
