57, 59. low to mid 60s for rest of the bay and mid to upper 60s inland. jobina. a dui suspect who was trying to run away -- officers did a test on the driver when they tried to arrest him he took off. officials say he ran across southbound wade, and a sheriff's deputy hit him. the suspect died at the scene. an investigation is underway this morning. thank you, jobina. three more counties will be able to reopen with higher capacities. several counties are transitioning from the red deer to the orange tier. that leaves solano county as the bay area county at red tier.

hold to rename schools. >> reporter: the board voted unanimously to open all schools in the fall for all students in person learning. students who choose not to return for medical or academic reasons can still learn remotely. a board member cited covid 19 infections declining. >> in person instruction will remain the majority offering of the district. remote learning should be considered an option for any student to not return to in person learning for medical reasons as well as for students who may benefit from remote learning for academic or social reasons. >> reporter: the plan has been in discussion since 2018, school names with connection to slavery will stay for now. this is until after all schools reopen. the plan became the target of parents and alumni groups that criticized it for being an

expensive and distracting plan while students remained out of the classroom. >> we do want to use the expertise from professors at nearby universities to support the work we have been doing. we have heard from families their interest in being involved in the process. >> pre-k through second grade will return to campus on monday. middle and high school will not return into the fall. some sports will return next week and the board also talked about possibly holding in person graduation ceremonies. so far, there is no plan for that. back to you, reggie. matt gaetz who is under investigation for child sex trafficking asked for a blanket presidential pardon in the final weeks of former president trump's term. trump was aware of his request but the idea was quickly dismissed the department of justice is currently investigating if he had a

sexual relationship with a 17- year-old girl and paid for her to travel with him. gaetz has denied wrongdoing. activists are bringing attention to local horse deaths. plus, the 7-year-old girl is on a mission to create change starting with genes at old navy. the letter she wrote to the san francisco-based company. i wanted to show you the flags on the ferry building. that is the seabreeze that is going to make it a little cooler today.

everybody back into the 50s at 7:00. kumasi, reggie. california is poised to take a major step forward. >> governor gavin newsom has announced he is aiming to lift business related restrictions across the state. roughly 20 million doses have been administered in california as you can see on the abc7 news vaccine tracker. for billing have gone to communities that need it the most. june 15th is more than two months away but the governor says the economy can open on that date if supply is sufficient for every adult who wants to get the shot and if hospitalization rates remain low. the announcement is something businesses have been waiting for. they are still following the color-coded system. today, three more counties are going to move from the red tier to the orange tier. contra costa, napa, and sonoma will transition. that leaves

cilantro county alone, the only county in the red. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield with the changes that are about to start. amy. >> reporter: good morning, reggie . weed are hearing happiness for businesses that will be allowed to welcome our people inside. we are also hearing trepidation too, about being inside with large crowds. the orange tier means businesses like restaurants, gyms, and movie theaters, along with places of worship, can now allow more people indoors. bars can now open to customers outside. there is no longer a meal requirement in the orange tier. sonoma, napa, and contra costa county move into the tier today. people should feel good about the progress that they have made but should not let down their guard with contra costa county saying they have plateaued and sonoma saying the cases have started to creep back up.

those who feel nervous say they are happy for businesses but they will just do what is best for them. >> i am not ready to go into a movie theater if it is completely packed. i would just say use common sense. you know, take care of your family. it is 6:00 in the morning, nobody's on the street. that's why i'm walking right now. >> reporter: health officials do have a message for people as we move into this orange tier in these three counties. they are encouraging everyone over the age of 16, especially here in contra costa , to get vaccinated. this is so we can keep heading in this direction. the feeling today is to celebrate the orange tier but do it with caution and responsibility and do what is best for you. live in walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. astrazeneca has paused its vaccine trial in children over concerns of rare cases of blood clots in adults.

jobina has the latest on this . jobina. >> reporter: thank you. the vaccine trial has been pause pending the review by the medicine regulator in the uk. a spokesperson says the trial in children has not raised any safety concerns but it will still be paused while regulators review it. last week, astrazeneca said at least 30 adults in the country experienced rare types of blood clots after getting the shot. astrazeneca says it is too early to know if the vaccine itself triggered the clots. regulators have advised the uk to continue administering the vaccine arguing it is very rare and the benefits still greatly outweigh the risks. the vaccine is not being used in the u.s. but the company is preparing to submit for emergency authorization. president biden has announced he is moving up the vaccine eligibility deadline. he is telling states to tell all adults eligible by april 19th.

this is instead a may 1st. many states have already done that. california set to open eligibility on april 15th which is next thursday. happening today, there's a push to get vaccines to one of the hardest hit near a. city and community leaders are opening a new site in the excelsior district. it will operate at 20 norton street. you do need an appointment. officials hope to administer 200 doses per day. this is part of the city effort to provide equitable access to the vaccine. developing news in hayward. police are reviewing circumstances surrounding an incident that was cut a video. a man posted on instagram about two days ago. he says this happened outside of mountain mike's pizza. you can see this man on the ground with his hands behind his head. police approached him and it appears that some officers are kicking and hitting him. hayward police say that internal affairs is looking into this. two sailors are in the

hospital following a shooting at a military installation in frederick, maryland. the suspect was identified as a 38-year-old navy medic. after shooting the sailors, officials say the suspect drove to ft. dietrich where the guards officially stopped him. officials say he pulled out a weapon and officer shot and killed him. one of the sailors is in critical condition and the second will likely be released today. testimony continues today in the trial of the officer charged with killing george floyd. yesterday may have been the best day so far for the defense team. here is more. >> reporter: on day seven of the trial, the prosecution and defense arguing whether chauvin violated police policy when he knelt on george floyd. >> is this a use of force? >> yes, sir. >> reporter: a use of force and structure who drain chauvin

sis borders of the sensor cisco district attorney have raised more money than the recall effort against him. financial records show san franciscans against the recall raised $160,000. the committee supporting the recall raised one and $40,000 per he has faced heavy criticism for handling of crimes. supporters have to get the signatures of 10% of voters in san francisco so that it equates to 50,000 people. the deadline is august 11th to qualify for a special election. the debate over vaccine passports is heating up.
