this is abc7news. we will begin with a mayor facing strong accusations and a call to resign. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm anya baits. four women accused dominic, the mayor of windsor. ten miles north of santa rosa. we learned that san francisco chronicle is reporting that the sonoma county legislature is launching an investigation into this. wane freeman looks at the calls for him to step down as maas of sonoma's county's 4th largest city. on what would appear to be a quiet day in lindsey, anything but. at least in terms of its 38- year-old mayor. >> we will watch the potential lightning storm. >> the mayor is in the midst of another storm. this morning the san francisco chronicle detailed sexual assault allegations against him from four women in the span of 16 years. but he did not respond to abc7news when we reached out

for comment. he has defenders. karen oldlervas is the only person that spoke on camera. >> never seen anything questionable? >> never. never. i never fell or seen anything that i felt was inappropriate and if i did, i would have said something to him. >> the mayor has been a rising star in california politics. his supporters here in windsor describe this as being politically motivated on a seat on the council and can't explain the charges by the alleged victims and have brought criticism from inside and outside of windsor. >> he does not belong in office. he has no more ral credibility and trust with the community and needs to go. >> from state senator mike mcguire given the severity of the allegations of windsor mayor dominic papolle. he needs to resign. from ester linas of the

council. i am saddened for the victims and disgusted by the allegations against dominic papolle. i request his immediate resignation. >> the mayor owns a winery. wednesday an attorney representing him told the chronicle that he categorically denies engaging in any abuses. it amounts to promising career in question. >> we are bigger and better than this. >> in the midst of it from windsor, abc7news. a grandmother attacked by a man in san francisco, new video has been released and it is raising questions. abc7news' reporter matt boone is in the newsroom with more. walk us through with what the video shows, please. >> that video is being provided to us by the public defender's office that shows some of what led up to the attack. just a warning. it finds physical violence.

it begins the morning of march 17th showing attacked and another person comes up to him and he gets piled on and getting hit in this area. the cameras will follow him after he is able to get out of this. this is to market and 7th. but somebody else followed him. that person in that traffic vest that swings wildly and you can see it there. that is when he struck 75 year- old chen and attack that was highly publicized and the public defender, eric mcburny argues that the narrative was wrong. >> it is a form for the public and members of the apx community to know that this is not racially motivated. we have a situation where somebody is in diminished

capacity. disoriented. >> what the video does not show is an attack on 83-year-old asian man that happened that same morning that jenkins has been charged with assaulting. the public defender says he is investigating his client's alleged involvement in that attack and so far only has accounts from witnesses. in the newsroom, matt boone, abc7news. all right, matt, thank you. coming off a record setting wildfire season the governor says he wants to spend half a billion dollars to prevent future fires. a lack of rain is making it worse. today the drought shows dry conditions. abc7news' reporter chris wynn looks at the work to help us prepare. >> reporter: with an unusually dry winner wildfire experts are bracing for another devastating season. >> we could see something potentially similar to 2020 or 2018. >> today and tomorrow the fire weather research lab is virtually hosting hundreds of experts from around the world as think discuss the latest

signs and fire weather and wildfire prediction. professor clay manies monitoring the conditions and said it is critical for california to get a head start on reducing fire risk. >> we have the most advanced fire behavior system in the world and so california should be assured that we will have the technology to predict the conditions in the future. >> sjsu is working to have software to have agencies such as cal fire with operational response. the modeling will provide realtime data to understand fire behavior and could help the public predict when smoke may arrive in their area. >> it is to include information about the weather and the terrain and mix all of that together and try to predict what is going to happen. >> in fresno county the governor unveiled $536 million plan to prepare for future

fires. the proposal will improve forest help and defensible space. it provides funds to protect homes against fires and investing in fire prevention grants and work force training and vegetation management. >> something is happening as it relates to the issue of climate and that is exacerbating conditions and making the challenge of the wildfire suppression and prevention that much more ominous. >> the governor's proposal comes as the state slips to serious levels of drought according to data released by the u.s. monitor. 4.2 million acres unbreakable are burned in the state that was the most in modern times. in san jose. chris wynn ab c 7 news. it may be one of the last events of its kind in the bay for a couple of today the city e city e city e

oakland's police chief is to get more money to fight crime. the chief was president biden's announcement about gun control. federal help to strengthen the gun violence program and assistance to do more community outreach like nighttime neighborhood works. chief armstrong says the white house is aware of the conditions in oakland. >> it was a great opportunity for the president and his team to look to me to be in the room and represent law enforcement knowing that i have a commitment to reduce gun violence. >> as of last week violent

crime in oakland was up 31%. san francisco expects to get concerts and other live events back one week from today. the plan is for maximum capacity of 35% for tickets and seated events. social distancing and masks will be required except when eating and drinking and attendees would have to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid-19 test. well it is the love of music that may have saved an 83 year-old bay man. he is back with his family after an epic struggle against covid-19. his family and doctors stanford played a big part. >> reuben natoro has loved to play the jazz saxophone since he was a young man in the philippines. ask his family. >> playing music and for all hours of the night. >> for myself it is in my

it will be breezy near the beaches for the afternoon breezy to windy. mid-50s to the mid-70s for your friday and it will turn out to be a sunny afternoon and the hour-by-hour wind forecast will show you the gusty winds near the coast. 35, 36 miles per hour. still gusting in the noontime hour and as we head to the afternoon and evening picking up a little bit. it is onshore breeze off of the cooler ocean water to help to take the temperatures down by several degrees. the accuweather seven-day forecast is gusty and cooler for friday. you know what just in time for your weekend we will warm back up upper 70s to low 80s. mid-50s at the coast for those that like it cool. next week that dry pattern continues. i am seeing a possibility of perhaps a pattern change april 16th, 17th so stay tuned.

tonight, breaking news as we come on the air in the west. reports of multiple people shot. a deadly shooting at an office complex in texas. what we're learning at this hour. and news coming in on the coronavirus tonight. the vaccination sites halted over concern after reactions from one of the vaccines. first, the deadly shooting at that office complex. the call of shots fired coming in late today. police and multiple ambulances rushed to the scene. several victims taken to the hospital tonight. pierre thomas standing by. there was another horrific shooting, this time in south carolina. a doctor, his wife and two grandchildren among those killed. a former nfl player, the alleged suspect. police say he then killed himself. and all of this as president biden was before the cameras today urging congress to do something about the shootings in
