moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. millions of people from 16 years of age on up are about to become eligible to receive the vaccine at the same time, california public health officials are warning of a substantial reduction in vaccine availability. so there's a bit of a rub there. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama dates. thank you for joining us. we begin with covid-19 and the improving numbers. all of them trending down, including the number of new cases and the number of deaths. at this point, there is no sign of a new surge in cases. 26% of eligibility californians have been vaccinated. as more people become eligible to receive the coup covid vaccine. it's become more difficult to find. some are traveling as far as fresno county, bakersfield, and eureka to find a dose. >> vaccine eligibility will dramatically expand to californians ages 16 and up next week. the supply chain will play a key role in how fast health

providers can ramp up. but a new partnership involving a major bay area company aims to bridge the gap in under served communities particularly. chris wen has the story from menlo park. >> a new covid-19 vaccination site will soon open in the unlikeliest of places. >> people also are interested because it's facebook. it's exciting. >> facebook is teaming up with the ravens wood family health center to get vaccines into under served communities. their goal is to vaccinate 5000 people who live or work in the community of east palo alto, bare haven. or fair oaks. >> it's large enough to accommodate many people. >> raiives wood family health will operate the pop up clinic for the foreseeable future. >> people who live in this community are working families. and many times for them, it's really difficult to get time off. >> north fair oaks community

council member eva rodriguez says it's critical to help those who struggled with gaining equitable access. >> if you get infected, you bring it to the family, many times there's one or two families living in the same house. >> facebook is providing support staff and free shuttles to and from campus for those who need it. the health center will offer vaccines on a first come first serve basis to remove technological barriers. >> they have an amazing partnership with so many local nonprofits that communicate on the ground with neighbors that would otherwise have a challenge getting access to these scenes. >> the effort comes as california prepares to expand vaccine eligibility to residents 16 and up which some say could make it harder to get shot into the arms of those disproportionately hit by the virus. >> it's a way of demonstrating that all people are valuable and facebook sees that and believes in it and has put a lot of effort in it. the race to vaccinate as many people as possible. getting a much needed boost

from one of the bay areas largest companies, in san mateo county, chris wen, abc 7 news. san francisco is expanding vaccine eligibility for anyone over 16 years of age in high impact neighborhoods. the pfizer vaccine is available for free and without an appointment for people in these zip codes. go to zuckerberg, san francisco general or southeast health sent cher is on keith street. the drop-in sites are open from 9:00 to 3:00 daily. after more than a year of being away from the classroom, san francisco public schools will begin reopening schools on monday. it will be a staggered return starting with some of the youngest students. abc 7 news reporter leeanne is in the news room to tell us what that will look like. >> remember when you were a kid the excitement you felt as you were about to start school. we're late to the game. but hundreds of students in san francisco will have two months of in-person learning. the hope is that they make

academic gains, but more importantly, that they begin the ever important interaction with classmates and teachers. >> where are we going to go? which way do we go? >> down valencia. >> she's starting a new chapter in her young life. in-person learning. >> i get to see my teachers. i'm really excited. >> on thursday, she toured sida t rodriguez early education center. on monday, she'll be greeting fellow students in a stiffer, covid way. >> raise the roof. give an air hug blow a a >> it's exciting to know all your staff are vaccinated. and it makes me feel more confident as a parent. >> eleven early education sites reopen on monday. so will these 22 schools. prek through second grade. if your child's school is not on this list, it means they will start one week later.

by april 26th. every student through fifth grade will be on campuses throughout the district. five days a week. >> by the end of april. we will likely have 107 schools open with an estimated 22,000 students returning to in-person learning. >> distanced learning is still an option for families. middle and high schools will remain closed but are expected to reopen in the fall. we toured bryant elementary in the mission district where the principal said classrooms had to be redesigned on monday parents will not be allowed inside the schools. instead kids will be dropped off. lunches served in the classrooms or outside. >> we don't have if i doubt that our schools are ready to open in a safe and caring and loving way. >> just a reminder that getting to this point was very trying. now the district had to secure enough ppe followed by negotiations with its labor

unions including teachers and committing to not reopening until teachers and staff were all vaccinated. but again here we are and principals, and teachers are telling kids all you need to know is we have missed you and please get some sleep before. leigh-ann melendez abc 7 news. good advice for adults as well. >> good advice. tough to follow sometimes with all the excitement. pfizer is asking the u.s. food and drug administration for authorization to give its covid-19 vaccine to adolescents ages 12 to 15 years of age. the pharmaceutical giant pointed to the phase three clinical trials that found the vaccine to be safe and 100% effective for the age group. those findings have not been peer reviewed. new developments in the case involving embattled windsor mayor, dominic. published report haves a detailed multiple allegations of sexual assault against him from four women. today, one of those women sharing her story with abc 7.

she spoke with abc 7 news reporter, cornell bernard. live in windsor where a rally is planned calling for the mayor's resignation. >> those calls are getting louder for his resignation. check it out. a rally being held at this hour here at the entrance to windsor. this is the busiest intersection if town. folks on both sides of the street holding signs, calling for the mayor to step down. now the sheriff has launched an investigation after four women claim he sexually assaulted them. we spoke with one of those women today. >> so i feel like speaking out is important. >> sofia williams is talking about an alleged incident back in 2006 involving dominic. who would later be elect maid your of windsor. she says the two had been out dancing and drinking with friends. >> that night dominic and i shared a cab home. >> she been that cab took them to his house. >> and he was like let's sleep here sober up and i'll take you home in the morning i was like

okay. no problem. sofia was promised a separate bed room but found she wasn't alone. >> i was like no, dominic, we're not doing this. and he just kind of like kept scooting closer and closer to me so that i was kind of against the wall. and like rubbing his groin against me. and then eventually he started to put his hand down my pants. >> williams broke free, locked herself in the bathroom and called a friend for a ride. she's one of four women detailing allegations of sexual assault at a san francisco chronicle over a 16 year period against fapoli none of the women have filed police reports. the sonoma county sheriff's department opened an investigation into the claims. >> victims in this case will be treated with the utmost respect. they've been very courageous and brave in coming forward. and we want to make sure they feel comfortable telling their story and that we can provide them with the services they deserve. >> he does not belong in office. he has no moral credibility to stand on. >> calls for his resignation

are getting louder. tweets from state and local officials. and this letter signed by eight mayors. >> do you believe the mayor should resign? >> it makes sense at this point. he's lost all trust. >> now the mayor declined our recontest for an interview today. but he just texted me within the hour saying he's refuting all of the allegations, he says a more detailed statement is forthcoming. defenders of the mayor say this is politically motivated. others defy that saying it's simply time for the mayor to step down. live in windsor, abc 7 news. cornell, thank you. in the derrick chauvin murder trial, another prosecution witness says that george floyd died from a lack of oxygen. the former medical examiner took the stand as prosecutors tried to prove that chauvin's actions killed floyd. the defense argues floyd's drug use and heart issues led to his

[ cheering and applause ] that's giants fan bryant stow throwing out the first pitch today at oracle park. stow was viciously attacked at dodgers stadium in the parking lot ten years ago. he has since worked tirelessly to end fan violence and bullying. great to see him out there today as he continues to recover. there has never been a giants home opener quite like this of course. oracle park opened to a smaller limited capacity crowd. abc 7 news reporter wayne friedman is at the park live where every person entering the ball park had to show proof of a vaccination or a negative covid test. >> that's exactly right. you were talking about limited attendance. it actually says there right on the box. it says limited in-person attendance, when is the last time you ever saw that for a home opening game in any city? but these are the times of covid. openers are always about

parent. add to that a pandemic and now more contagious variants on the rise, it can feel overwhelming. michael phinney is here with more on that. michael? to help ease the anxiety of giving birth in time of covid, consumer reports has steps to take before welcoming that new family member. sandy is an er doctor so working from home to keep safe from covid isn't an option. to complicate matters, sandy is six months progressive nano. which worries her wife erin every time she leaves for work. >> she is very concerned. but we took the necessary precautions. >> this being their second child, giving birth this time will be totally different. >> now as things ramp up again it's always in the back of our mind that erin might not be able to join me or i'll have to wear a mask while i deliver. we're hoping it doesn't come to that point. >> if you're pregnant, it's especially important to take precautions against covid-19.

>> there is evidence that pregnant women who have the virus are more likely to need intensive care unit admissions, ventilation, and advanced life support techniques. >> it's important to keep up with your prenatal care. but you may want to talk with your doctor about ways to limit potential exposure to covid-19. >> you'll probably have to go to the doctors office for ultrasounds, but it might be possible to do other prenatal appointments virtually. >> prepare yourself by asking key questions in advance, like where to go when you a reiff at the hospital. how your experience will be different if you test positive for covid-19 when you show up. and how many people can be with you during labor which can be especially important if you're planning to use if your doola can't be in the delivery room you, they can still help you virtually on the phone. and they can help you clarify
